There are now several tournaments open for late registration (pokerstars); as long as fifteen minutes which leaves a massive window of opportunity for players and friends to band together for an unfair advantage. I can quite simply enter the tournament in my account, go for broke in the first ten minutes if I lose my friend sitting next to me goes into his account and enters the same tournament for another chance. I know late registration is great because it brings so many more people to the tournament (unless it is a guaranteed and you are actually hoping for dead money) but I don't find it too fair that people are getting an unfair advantage without really breaking any rules and find it quite weird entering tournaments 12 minutes after the official start time finding 55 players already out and the chip leader has ten times my stack.

what do u think?
-
Great for the game. I like being able to register for tournaments that normally I would have missed. Also, the likelihood of people colluding or "using this to their advantage" is very unlikely. Even if it were the case, the overall edge you would gain from doing it would not be large enough for it to matter imo. Not with playing fields as large as they are.

fair enough.
would it be considered cheating if me and 2 mates sat there. i log in first play like a maniac win all good if i lose my friend jumps on etc. for the first fifteeen minutes till we get a stack; obviously sharing whatever win we get? -
I mean, I guess I wouldn't think so because if you are sharing any winnings, then you would essentially all be playing out of the same starting BR (if not someone is getting f*&ed) and simply buying a piece of each other's action in the tournament. Again though, the edge you gain from having an extra 15 minutes (at most) of play in a 5-10 hour long tournament is so nominal that you might not ever get to experience the benefits of it.

i know it is only fifteen minutes at the start of the tourney; but giving urself say 3 chances of tripling ur stack has got to be good. i know there is ten hours to go but i would be reasonably confident or at least a much better chance of going deep when i have 3 times as many chips as most fifteen minutes into the game
-
How's this any different then you and 2 buddies all at your one homes playing the same tourney and sharing the action evenly all three ways?

The only difference is you might save a buyin or two if maniac number one builds a huge stack.
in a huge field tourney assuming you dont end up at the same tables or share info isn't that legit?
Edit:
Excepting rebuys, how crazy does your table have to be to LET you triple in the first 15 minutes? -
this is possible in the biggest games on stars including the million, saving 2 entry fees is a big difference if u dont have lots of $ so would make it worthwhile for a lot of people including me.
in regards to tripling up in the first fifteen minutes on average i find 2 players on pokerstars tables happy to throw there tourney away with a10 suited; nothing suprises me there almost like bingo for some of its players. never ever short of action on jokerstars -
How is that any different if U got 2 Mates to Registar on Time??? Paranoid Much????
EVEN IF u'RE FIRST BUY IN GETS A GOOD STACK, U know its still a long shot to win any Big MTT's right?? -
the difference is you dont pay the next 2 entries if the first attempt succeeds and ur playing knowing u can reenter if need be. not paranoid just interested. might be long way to go but u are giving urself a much better chance are you not?
-
yes you have a better chance to win, but you're spending double or triple the money so you need to win more than double or triple as much money with your system to make it 'unfair'.
given you're gonna be making a whole bunch of -EV plays in that first 15 minutes I don't see you doing that, so no you don't have an unfair advantage.
put it this way, if I was playing a tournament where everyone else except me was doing this i would expect to have an even bigger roi than normal from all the idiot plays, and would not mind in the least. -
^^^^^this

ty for your reply mattclub; elendil my mother always said if u have nothing nice to say (or constructive in this case) better to not say anything at all
-
i actually have some good friends in mexico so it will work for me then i guess.....
-
Chip lose value as to tournement goes on. Someone starting 10 minutes late is not getting the same value that you got signing up on time. Period
Unless your a losing player = then it doesn't matter anyway. I will get your chips now or I will wait 10 minutes..... -
I'm sure ud get f'ed in the A signing up three or more entires into the same tourney from the same IP
-
Just thinking outloud, but is this really all that different than playing 3 different tournaments with similar fields/buy ins, and then playing a reckless strategy? Either it's a good strategy or it isn't, but I don't see how the late registration effects that.
One thing I don't understand (at full tilt anyway), you'll get tons of the late registrations for some tournaments (especially their 180 maxes), and a large percentage may come after. Really, on a Sunday at 11am est? What does the extra 10 min really mean? Seems like some players are just lazy getting it in.
Personally, I'd rather see every hand I have to play, especially at the lower blind levels. But, that's just me, I don't see it as an advantage to get in late.
