What you need to do is keep playing at your current limits and dont jump too far ahead of yourself with shots. as long as your maintaining your results and playing well thats all that matters. You will experience variances, the true question is whether or not you can handle a downswing.

  2. Well first thank you for the responce and advice. The thing is that i have learned to take downswings pretty well cause obviously all gamblers go threw and would be lying if they say they haven't. But the one thing i have going for me is that i have total disreguard when it comes to money i never cared about money obviously i understand that we need money to survive but one thing i tell anyone that gambles either in poker, sports blackjack ect. if you are upsest with money then this life style is not for you. The only thing is that i would like to have at least one year salary put away just incase and also have more than enough for the downswings that seem to never end but the secret is stay convident and know that it will not last forever cause that worse thing that can happen to a poker player is losing convidence same with any profession at that matter. Are you a fulltime poker player? Is it your living and if so how you know you were ready to make the switch and how did you go about doing it? Well thank you again

  3. Its a great way to make money obviously and has huge advantages to freedoms such as travelling and using your own time when you want however theres one thing i have to make clear.... you will become so involved in poker you might experience various phases such as variance, burning out or just boredom.

You have to have your priorities set straight and you cannot be around negative people at ALL! Grab a pen and a piece of paper, set goals! if you don't follow them your only disrespecting yourself.

    Best of luck!

  4. LOL... your right when i was at the TAJ i started getting a lil' bored i wanted some quick action so i made the mistake and went to the table games playing 500 a hand in blackjack 100 a roll in craps bad mistake but your right it does get a lil' boring at the table expencialy when the table is very tight and you want that fast action my problem is i have to stay away from the table games also the 3rd night at the TAJ i was getting a little burnt out playing actually completely burntout so i just went to the room actually early but when i woke up i could get to the poker room quick enough i didnt even waite for the elevader i ran down the stairs lol....but i guess that i normal but i do know one thing if i go say 2 days with out playing i start going threw withdraws lol.... I just honestly feel deep in my heart my true calling in life if playing poker for a living .. It is the only time I am happy content and feel normal.... It just makes sence for me all away around not including what i make in one session in poker i make a week working at my current job and it has been like this for almost a year now.... So it is not like I am just on some lucky winning streak but who knows obviously since I am still debating i should just stick to my life style for now and when i have not one doubt then I guess thats how I will know right?

  9. paragraphs, please sir.
  10. Every little thing these haters say are irrelevant! They are just there to put you down - like i said no negativity can be involved in your lifestyle. You must begin here and start with your A+ game.... stop playing blackjack and craps and ANYTHING besides poker. Table games such as those will ruin your life very easily. I say you continue your regular schedule and keep playing but at the same time keep studying the game and rethink each situation. Try to keep logs of your acitivities as this is the best way to re-tune your game and continue your strive towards success.

    Very important rules -

    - Bankroll management
    - Game selection ( not playing against tougher oponnents on a regular basis )
    - Proper sleeping schedule
    - Add a workout routine ( I need to work on this also as it releases positive endorphines into your body allowing you to play better )
    - Always play ABC poker within the first 2 hours of a mtt
    - Be thankful for everyday, every person that means something to you and everything you have achieved
    - A positive attitude can go a VERY long way
    - Beats will come your way, play EMOTIONLESS poker ... once you learn this you will become a MUCH better player
    - Don't force yourself to become a pro, it will gradually come on its own if its ment to be
    - Move up in limits as your bankroll grows accordingly
    - If you begin a downswing, move down in limits and DO NOT be shy of this
    - Last but not least dont forget to have fun!

  16. I think playing as a career is a great thing, I do it myself, but you can't expect the same results you have had recently. This is not being negative, just realistic. To go a month with no losing sessions is almost unheard of, so I would put away as much money as possible for expenses..etc. Keep playing the games you are playing and keep grinding, it sounds sounds like you are on the right track. Just dont make any rash decisions based on a good month. If you are a consistent winner, and you are consistently trying to improve your game each day, reguardless of whether you won or loss, then you have a chance to make. The most important thing is to keep learning and improving and adapting, as the game is constantly changing.

Wow, this guy really nailed it. Workout routine helps to balance the yin and yang (mental - physical). I would like to add attitude in the form of confidence. Somehow when you are confident in your abilities, it brings success. For example, in 2006 who was Jamie Gold on day 3 of the main event? He was a nobody, with very little shot to win, but he was a man confident in his abilities to the extent that he announced on national tv that he was going to win. It was a joke to vegas pros. Ultimately that is what put the bracelet on his hand. Many will say he got luckly, IMO he created his own luck with his attitude, goal, and determination.

I am seriously debating on pursing poker full time as a career. I have been playing poker in back pool halls sneaking into Foxwoods when I was 17 but for the last 3 years I have been taking poker very serious and playing 8-14 hr sessions. Since I grew up in Connecticut, I was always at the casino but 3 years ago when I was 25 I moved to P.A. and since there are no casinos I have been playing online.

I am mainly a ring game player, i play 3/6 N.L Hold'em short handed tables.. I guess you can say that I am a short handed specialist. I also play a lot of mixed games, i love H.O.R.S.E and i have been crushing the tables for the last year or so. I play some SNGs and when i do it is usually heads up with buy-ins averaging 50-200 dollars. (I went on a sick run winning 18 in a row last week)

So getting back to my point... playing online has its pros and cons. The cons being the money i win i have to wait to get it, then there's always the possibility of cheating one way or the other. The pros are that I can multi-table (which I love!). I also can play in the comfort of my house. Also, there are heads up SNGs and 6max tables, which I mentioned earlier that I'm good at.

I deposit 300 dollars on the site that i play on 3 months ago and I haven't had to reload since. In doing this, I learned bankroll management, which is extremely important wanna even think about making poker a full time job. What i do is as soon as i win $1,000, I cash out.

Last week i went to Atlantic City and played at the TAJ for four days. I got there on Sunday and started playing around 3pm at 2-5nl. I played a 9 hr session and won $1,400. Then Monday i won $1,200 and on Tuesday i got in a 50 dollar tournament and got 1st winning a little over $1,300.

Wednesday i played a 4 hour session winning 600 dollars so i was making like 10x in poker a day than i do working. Last month i went to Foxwoods for the day and got in a 5/10 PLO ame and at the end of my session i won $3,400. I can honestly say with no bullshit i have not had a losing session in over month and i know it sounds like I am bullshitting but believe me, I am not. Like i said, since i learned bankroll management i never player in any games that my bankroll can not handle.

Also, say i sit in a game with 300 dollars and i tell myself once i get up 700 dollars i will play until the button gets to me and tell the other player's so they don't think I am pulling a hit n run. Don't get me wrong, if the table is full of fish and i know i can make a huge score, well then that is different.. but i try to stick to my routine and it has been working great for me.

I honestly believe that i am ready to make the jump. i have the gamblers mentality: i don't care about money. It is highly impossible for me to get on tilt and these are very important traits to have being a gambler. I was just wondering if anyone has any advise for me?

Also, i do play better live only because i think it is a mental thing. I know that i can actually put my winnings in my pocket immediately and when playing on line you are limited to tells on your opponent such as their betting patterns how long they take to act, etc. Now, in live play you can rely on body language how they look and act when betting. Always remember one thing: people are creatures of habit.

I'll give you a quick example: I was playing at Foxwoods and a player at the table would act like he is not interested in the game at all when he is bluffing. Say he bets 75 dollars and looks around for the beverage girl or acting like he is trying to look for someone..well he is bluffing! Now when he has a solid hand he gets very mathematical, takes a few minutes before he bets, etc.

When i sit at table i fold the first few hands until i get a read on the table to see if it is a tight table or loose table and I observe the players' facial motions, such as how they play with their chips before they bet, etc. I am not a mathematical player at all.. don't get me wrong i know all about pot odds and applied odds, but when it comes to things such as calculating my equity against my opponents hand or range of hands, I'm not the greatest. Although it's quite scary how accurate my reads are and how often I can call out my opponents hand.

Ill tell you a quick story then i will end this and allow for some discussion. I was in a game and someone bet me 300 dollars that i could not call out his cards 3 times in a row. Well guess what? I won! After that, everyone started calling me Jonnie 3x... around the poker room..:)

Well thank you for reading my very long post. And thank you very much for anyone's input and advice..

    FYP for easier reading.

  21. No problem bro. I was more fulltime heavy in 2008 however in 2009 ive calmed down.

With wsop around the corner im increasing my volume like crazy since i just turned 21 this year! I love playing online but at the same time if you qualify for live events it is the sickest experience ever.

Whats your next step? are you planning on dabbing in some online action?

  27. NVM didn't see ur 3 page long post lol...if ur playing 3/6 online, quit being a short stack specialist and buy in for full and pwn. At least ur playing higher limits unlike other dudes who are posting. If you got money set aside, then do it. U play high enough stakes and have enough options available to take a shot. GL...btw ur running sickly good and be prepared for a DS sometime.

Hwk mentions a good point... shortstacking is useless in my opinion especially in cash games unless you have a very dangerous style. I used to think about experiencing variance however now i just think its useless to expect it coming. I try to just play my A game and if I experience a beat its just random cards flying accross the screen that even eachother out over time.

The micro stakes online are a great way to get started and are both easily beatable and profitable! analyzing your hand history online can turn you into a PHENOMINAL player IF you put the time and effort into it.
