  1. Just wondering P5ers thoughts on the new WSOP champion. I know he gets some hate for his bad beat on Matt Affleck. However, judging only from what was shown on ESPN, I thought he deserved the win because he played the best. Last year, I had the distinct impression that Antoine Saout was the best player, or at least the best player of the final 4 or 5 left. I don't know if Duhamel will prove, over time, to be the best player among the 9 at this year's final table, but he played the best on those two days in November 2010.
  2. I thought Duhammel played very well at a tough final table. Of course he got it in bad and won a few times but thats how you win tournaments. However, he wasn't anywhere near the best player at the FT. The best player doesn't always win. He ran the purest tho.

  3. lets be honest from what ESPN show we cant tell anything. most hands are edited out. Dolan got put in alot of tough spots
  4. If you followed hand for hand online, Cheong was easily the best player, and I'd say Duhamel was the 2nd best. Granted its easy to be overly aggressive with his chip count, but still. Grinder might have played a better final table, but given how talent the table was, anyone who won would have deserved it.
  5. i dunno, i think he played great, but his CALL with JJ agaisnt Mcmatto then his snap call all in with a9 against grinder were suspect to say the least. i thought he set up subiime well with all of the 3bet folding and 4 betting that he did.

unless you watvchd all 15 hours of it on saturday, which i did. side note, from my perspective, even though i couldnt see hold cards, i enjoyed it more than the watered down tv drama version....
  6. so u watched him 8 days to judge him or what??

I cant help but agree with this, I didn't get to see it all cause of work and a wacked out DVR, but I still cant help but agree with this.
  8. are the same as my thoughts on Dennis Philips:

    1. How does one person know that many people that well?
    2. Who paid the bill to get them there?
  9. I thought Duhamel played pretty good. Wasn't the best at the table but he made some good plays (from what we've seen on the ESPN show).
From what we saw from the show aswell he did pick up some good hands at that final table (AA twice, QQ, AK a few times). So he did run good.
I went to bed at the dinner break when 7 handed while Mizrachi was the chip leader. I thought and hoped he would win it but poker can be a cruel game.
Hats off to Cheong too. Thought he played great and I laughed my ass off when I saw that hand vs Duhamel (C: 64s vs D:A2o). When he won he said:
"duuuuur, I play bad". Loved it!
Over all well done to Duhamel, it was a good victory and it was a good final table.
  10. Well he's canadian so I love him. But I think he took some bad beats really well. When he went from chip leader to short stack with AK and just got unlucky he kept quiet and just played his game. I didn't see him get out of line or do anything disrespectful to anyone at the table. Seems like a good guy to represent the internet kids in front of the world

  11. he's a likable guy from what we saw on ESPN. There were past champions where I was rooting so badly against them because of their bad poker table ettiquette or rash personalities (Jamie Gold comes to mind), but this dude seemed pretty level headed and smooth. I think he played well. It's obvious you are going to have to suck out a few times to win, and ESPN makes sure to edit those huge suckouts into the show. For every one of those I'm sure there were 10 hands he played about as well as anyone.

  12. hes too french
  13. saw an interview with him after the november 9 was set back in july and he seemed like a complete tool, very arrogant, but than again that was 2 minutes and from what i saw he carried himself well during the FT and seemingly played solid, esp HU, so i got to give him props, as stated above tho the whole FT was solid for the most part

This is exactly what my girlfriend said, and she knows nothing at all about poker. But I have to agree, Saout was a sicko.
  15. Agree that cheong was the best, or at least played the best from what i watched up until about 2 am. Duhamels play seemed solid tho, def wasnt rooting against him
  16. He rubs me the wrong way and as far as his play, he just kept hitting the call button. I don't understand why people were trying to make plays against him either, because he will pretend he's thinking and hit the call button, I don't think he folds TT+ or AQ+ to the 6 bet. Other than the 6 bet disaster, I felt Cheong was the best by far and it wasn't a real well played final table.
  17. I thought cheong was very good, he was just unlucky when he ran into the AK of Michael with the K on the river, A7 was just a dumb move... but i really like his play, bery agressive. Duhamel was a good winner
  18. Gotta give his props.....I was not in his camp at all prolly with a disdain for his Mcmatto JJ hand. He did explain his thought process and it was evident he has a hard time finding the fold button, but gotta give credit where credit is due tho. Cheong clearly the best imo and I think I said this in another thread but 2 hours with commercials is just not enough coverage to do it any justice whatsoever. I was really looking forward to the end game stuff where Cheong was just running it over I think 5 handed and they did not even come close to capturing the nuances in his play and command over the game. It is the Super Bowl of poker..... c'mon more coverage please.

  19. he tried to explain why he made the call with jacks, and it just didnt add up as to why he made it even after he explained it. he said something like well if i lost the pot i would still have 30 bbs left, and i just figured if i won this hand i would win the tournament so i gambled and called. really annoyed me since his reasoning is so damn fucked up.
  20. HE SEEMED TO ALWAYS BE HOLDING AA WHEN HE NEEDED TO BE.
