  1. I will be the first to give mad props to Gobboboy for what he's accomplished over the last year, but IMO, he is coming off as very arrogant in his interview here on P5's. I met Jimmy in Bahamas and in Australia, and he seemed to be a very humble and nice guy, and I don't doubt that he is. But in this interview he is coming off as pompous. Perhaps Gobbo might have wanted to mention that he was only playing for about 30 percent of himself, so most of the money he won didnt even go to him. And second of all, Gobboboy might have wanted to mention that he laid some of the sickest beats possible to get where he got. I'm not saying he didn't play well, but if he didn't crack AA with AQ all in pre on day one, he wouldn't have even sniffed the cash down under. Besides that, there were 4 or 5 hands in which he sucked out so hard that it would make you puke if you were on the losing end of them.(Just ask Shaniac about that) Now don't get me wrong, I think Gobboboy is a really nice guy from my personal experience, and he is clearly a great player, but to be calling the pros terrible when the only reason he went deep is cause he had 3 horseshoes up his ass the entire week is ridiculous IMO. I'm sure I will get flamed for this post, and maybe the interview just set him up to sound arrogant, but let's be real here: Gobboboy played great and deserves a lot of credit for his results, but let's not go putting him on a pedestal because he put his money in bad time after time and got there.

  2. lol... he knows what he's talking about, and he didn't sound arrogant at all, he just offered his honest opinion. what do u want him to say... he never said he outplayed everyone, he just said many of the live pros didn't play very well compared to online players. damn man...this is a great moment for him, don't let jealousy or whatever it is get to you, because he didn't sound overly arrogant.
  3. Why would u even make this thread. So what if he is being put on a pedestal. I personal don't think he is being arrogant or put on a pedestal. And why would u tell people how much of himself he owned? Thats just wrong man.
  4. What's wrong with SBRounder trying to shed some light here?

Fact : a majority of poker players sell out % of themselves at big live tournaments, I don't see why you're criticizing him.

  5. I watched most of the updates and never once saw a hand where gobboboy completely owned anyone. 9/10 updates went like this.....GOBBOBOY STRIKES AGAiN.. COMES FROM BEHIND TO SCOOP MONSTER POT!!! So i agree with SbJabroni here.
  6. a majority of poker players sell out % of themselves at big live tournaments

Yes this is true, but imo i don't think its anyones business except for Gobbo and his backer(s).
  7. You don’t drink right?

Nope, kinda sucks for your site. =P

Thats ok you are still a P.I.M.P. When did you start playing poker?

About two years ago when I got ridiculously lonely when all my friends quit magic.

I was one of those friends

    yeah, you bastard.

What games did you start out at?

F’ing limit holdem. 0.5/1. It just took too long for me to get good. I hate losing, and I was a loser for a few months when I was probably running bad. Finally I took 2nd in a $20 MTT on party the summer of 2005 for $3500 and it gave me a big enough bankroll to f around without going broke. MTTs are bread and butter now.

How was the trip to Australia?

Hell. I HATE long plane rides. Four different planes, over 24 hours in the air. The Crown Casino in Melbourne was VERY nice though. Tons of yummy restaurants too.

What was your impression of the Aussie Millions?

The buy-in was 10K AUS which is 8k USD. 99% of the field could not tie their shoes. They were complete idiots. A few good pros: Negreanu, Ivey, Hansen, Cunningham, Antonius, some people I respect. A few others maybe. A lot of the pros I played against were dead money.

Tell us about some memorable hands.

This one gave me close to the chip lead late in Day 2. It was the biggest pot of the tournament thus far. Blinds 1500/3k/500 ante, retard open limps in MP, Button limps, small-blind completes and I check 76 hearts in the big blind. The flop comes K98 one heart. It checks to the retard limper who bets 20k into 15k and says “And I’ll show if you fold.” This immediately tells me:

    1) He has a hand better than 1 pair and

    2) He’s incapable of folding at any point of the hand.

He has like 200k total so I call. The turn is a 5, giving me the nuts. I check, he bets 20k, I make it 60k, he beats me into the pot with a call. The River is a beautiful 3 offsuit, I cram, he thinks for about 4 seconds, calls and tables 88. I show him the nuts and he goes nuts. He busted on the bubble. Well, not the bubble but close enough to a dream-crush. So ya, that pot was cool.

Nice hand. He probably should have kept his mouth shut.

………..or not played like a retard. There was this hand too. Antonius opens from under the gun 6-handed to 60k. I call with pockets 6’s in position. The big blind makes it 200k more with a stack of 1.7 million which i cover, Antonius folds and I call again. My preflop play was marginal but still fine. I don’t mind going for set value against Antonius with such deep stacks. When the big blind reraises, I have to flop a set almost every time and get paid most times for it to be good but I don’t mind gambling a little bit either. I really thought the guy had a big pair. Anyway, the flop is Q74 with a club draw. He checks and I check behind. A lot of people will try to checkraise with QQ or better here and sometimes even AK, so I went for the 2 outer one time dealer. The turn was a 5 offsuit giving me an open ended straight draw. He bets out 400k, I cram. My line so far looked ridiculously like a midpair. So when he bets 400k I thought I could represent any pair from 44 to 77 very easily. So I cram and he tanks FOREVER and folds a pair and a flush draw, 95 clubs, which I would’ve folded very quickly. He obviously didn’t respect me very much. That gave me the chiplead.

How was the shorthanded action at the final table?

It was awesome. I tilted them. Gus and Andy were literally afraid to play a pot with me. I was in the zone and never had any cards whatsoever but just turned into a whirlwind. They must have thought I was a card rack and a calling station. So you can’t play aggressively against me with that image because you can’t win that way. I have the best hand and I’m not folding. So they just let me pick up every other pot.

Tell us about heads up with Gus Hansen.

I had a 3-1 chiplead, I just wanted it to be over quickly but after a few hands of playing HU I realized how deep we were. We were at 50k/100k blinds with 15 million in play, so 150 bb’s in play. And he started catching a LOT of cards. There was nothing I could do against top pair every single hand. I did make a few retarded plays/calls.

Can you run through the hand that busto’d you?

Yeah, sure, that one’s easy. I limp on the button with 97cc, he raises it up, I feel like I can’t let him just raise me out of every pot so I call in position and plan to push most flops I hit. Flop comes Q86 so I have the nut part of the oesd and I have a backdoor flush draw too. He bets 400k, I cram, and he calls me instantly so I know I’m fucked. He has AA, I turn a club draw but whiff.

    Ouch. Was this televised?

Yeah, should be on TV in a few months. I was nervous about it at first but after awhile I just forgot.

So how did you party after winning a MILLION dollars?

I didn’t. I just wanted to leave. I was pissed I blew such a huge chiplead. They invited me to all these parties but I just went to dinner with some 2p2ers and tried to calm down.

Did you buy anything crazy yet?

Nope. I might buy something soon but probably nothing big. A new laptop maybe.

    What’s next for Gobboboy?

I dunno. Poker I guess. I’m rolled for a lot of prelims at huge tourneys and some main events like ept’s and such.

One more thing, can I borrow a thousand?

    No.

Thanks very much Jimson, and this time you don’t need any more luck at the tables.

Good talking to you, see ya.

I Think Gobo is a great player but his interview is very uncalled for (great analysis bad choice of words i.e. calling 99% of field complete idiots). Now that he's in the spotlight he should watch his words. He lost me as a fan after I read this interview.

  8. Name one player who takes 1st or 2nd (or even top 50) in a large field without getting lucky in spots.

You might as well just make a new thread on every single player that ever has had a big cash and does an interview giving their opinions. Get to typing....
  9. I agree with SBRounder. Sure Gobboboy has a string of impressive results and no-one is saying he is not a great player, but... in his interview he came off as very arrogant, especially in reference to his field at the Aussie Millions. In one word he described the field as "terrible", and went on to call them all "calling stations". Now for someone who has been playing for all of 2 years, I dont think he is in a position to judge considering some of the suck outs he dished out himself.
  10. At first I didn't know if this was satire or real...

Anyway, I suppose a lot of good poker players are arrogant.

And maybe it's just strategy, all those pros he called dead money will be easier to tilt against him.
  11. Personally, I think Gobbo played @ Aussie millions the way moneymaker did @ WSOP. The only difference is we KNOW gobbo has MAD skills. Still his plays were pretty mcuh the same, moneymaker just probably didnt' have the correct thinking when he made htem.
  12. great post tom, i love you.
  13. i for one wondered throught that whole interview posted above why someone would go through and make up such a long and detailed story about gobbo.....yeah

really tho you gotta get lucky as hell in some spots and im sure he took 2 or 3 beats min. throughtout the tourney, made in spotlight he'll tone down but imo alot of it is hes prob just a lil overwhelmed and doesnt even realize it, most people put in his spot id expect to follow his same course, but maybe im wrong.

either way congrats on your finish gobbo.

  14. hey look at that. reasonable thinking. rare finding.
  15. Jamie Gold; his perfect agressive style for playing with the chip lead allowed the WSOP ME to end a day early
  16. Did you really spend more than 5 seconds thinking about this?
  17. i don't understand the point of this post at all.......

It's not like this was the first tourney he has played and now people are on his sack b/c of it.. He has proven that he knows what he is doing so why the need to bash him when he runs good for a big tourney.

The interview turned me into a gobbofan b/c he said what he said...

"but to be calling the pros terrible when the only reason he went deep is cause he had 3 horseshoes up his ass the entire week is ridiculous IMO." - I don't understand what some of the pros being terrible and gobboboy running good have to do with each other? he's not allowed to criticize "name" pros b/c he sucked out a few times?

  18. SBrounder owns

  19. I dunno he came off a bit on the douchey side in this interview to me. I guess poker is really the only thing he has the right to be cocky about. Dude is something else in the looks department. Poker might be the only reason he ever gets laid.

    Good poker player tho.

Word of advice. Be humble and a gentleman. You're making a name for yourself and this is not the image you want.

  20. Whether or not Gobbo sucked out or not shouldn't have much to do with his reputation, however calling 99% of the field donks, should.

Its not that difficult to win graciously. All the time we see players (Cunningham, Bax, and Greg Raymer come to mind) who can win large tournaments and not be an asshole after winning it. I have a lot more respect for players like that, than people who act like they somehow deserve to win more than other great players.
  21. Reality check here folks!! Gobbo boy is merely 19 years old. He has shown great skills, but lets not forget in some ways he is just a kid. It may seem like arrogance, but guess what, kids arent arrogant they just say what they feel bottom line. In fact I think this unique combination makes him someone we can learn from in a special way.

As for getting lucky...noone gets that far without getting lucky... simple fact.... it is how you play in between that REALLY decides how far you get, although I will agree in J. Gold's case it was ridiculous.

Personally I'd love to pull up a chair and talk to gobbo for as long as he would let me. Coz the kid is obviously exceptionally gifted and he will give you a straight up answer no bs everytime.

Perhaps its a coincidence but it seems to me most of the gobbo haters are very strong players perhaps they are just unhappy that its not them winning such noteriety..... lol they are gonna love that one.... but i think its really a subconcious thing. Of course there are other reasons i am sure.....

  22. you guys commenting on his looks need to get a life. That is just hating for hates sake. Go back to your KKK meetings and leave us alone.
  23. I was referring to the second question and I only saw the top part.

But thank you for your pointless insight...yeah
  24. I wasn't sure if the post was real or not at first either. He sounded like a complete douche bag in the interview, but he never came off that way in any of the posts I've seen on 2+2.

However, he won more money in 1 tournament than I'll ever win so he has the right to be as big of a douche as he wants.
  25. "It's Gobbo's World. We’re just living in it."

Shouldn't he win at least one tournament before we start saying those kind of things?
  26. I was having a good chuckle while reading the above interview and thinking to myself "the guy who dreamed this up is pretty creative/funny". Then I realized it's real. What a douchebag.
  27. everyone needs to get off his sack and stop sucking up to gobbo. SB makes a great point, he said he was a great player but listed resons why he didnt represent himself in that way. Any respected player doesnt go out of their way to brag unless your Jamie gold and he goes over so well here. ALSO he didnt WIN... He practically got more press for his second than Daut for him first...
He blew a 3-1 chip lead with no blinds pressing him at all. In the end the better player won and he shouldnt talk like he won the damn tourny. I was frustrated too SB, everyone can keep sweating gobbo but i find it hard to respect someone who feels they are that much better when everyone else making a lot of key mistakes along the way that got turned into great plays. good post sb.
  28. I already posted my thoughts on another forum, along with the feelings of dozens of other people. At first Jimmy seemed like a nice kid but the arrogance is sickening. Here's the link:

    http://jackseven.ca/forums/index.php?topic=2008.0
  29. I honestly thought Jimmy was a cool kid when I met him at the tournament. When they ask about the memorable hands, is the runner-runner straight against Shaniac after making a very bad call for most of his chips not memorable?

What about the 1-outer he hit against Joe Sebok on Day 1? All-in with QQ vs KK on a KQx flop. River Q obv. For some reason I haven't seen that hand mentioned anywhere in his interviews, but that hand is more memorable to me than my own hands that I played in that tournament!

I know everyone gets lucky once in a while, but how can you call 99% of the field terrible when you yourself made some very bad plays, got your money in behind countless times, and came out the winner in most of them?

    Yuck.
  30. great post tom, couldnt agree more with you
