  1. How many hours a week do you guys that are in school devote to poker? Do you set aside a paticular time per day to play or just play whenever the you feel like it? I find it difficult to balance the two. Not just playing, but reading P5's, 2+2, re-reading certain books. I find it much more interesting than statistics at this point. i just wanted to guage other students abilities to balance both well.
  2. oh come on people, half the people on here are probably < 23 yrs old. if i fail this semester i will forever blame the lack of reponses to this post.

  3. My poker play basically follows two rules:
    1. poker does not come before school work
    2. poker does not come before social life

As long as I have all my work in order and I'm relatively caught up, I play whenever I feel like it. I never set a specific time aside. On occasion I'll procrastinate homework in order to play, but that's usually a bad idea (especially this afternoon.) As long as you have your priorities straight you should be able to have some freedom with how much you play.
  4. i dropped all my classes two semesters in a row because i couldn't hang with poker and school and weed. This semester(limited experience i know) i haven't been playing poker until finish everything i need to do that day. Its cut back on my playing a lot but school is a very important part of life imo.

  5. I don't usually play too often. I'll put in a full session on Friday since I don't have school and that's about it. I played this past Saturday too just because I felt like watching the games on tv as opposed to watching the UT vs Rice game.

It's just a balance you have to find. School > Poker even though I sometimes like to think oppositely.
  6. i was at the game. good game if you like blowouts, which i was anxious to see since weve sucked at life the last 3 weeks. do you go to rice?

  7. devote 0 to school. a few to poker. I wonder where the rest of that time goes.
  8. I've got quit poker to focus only on school.
  9. switch to SNGs and Cash Games...that is what i'm doing, working out well so far
  10. I'm now doing my stats while browsing P5s...there's at least some kind of a correlation between a poker related forum and stats I guess.

edit: Cmac is right, sngs and cash are definitely easier when you are trying to balance a full load and poker.
  11. School = lots of hours a week.
Poker = too many hours a week.

A good tip on the SNG's and cash, though. Gives you a definable end point that isn't 4+ hours away. Although speaking of school work, anyone want to write my paper for me? Anion Recognition via Luminescent Lanthanide Complexes can't be that hard to fake...
  12. Do homeowork.
    Read books on the shitter.
Read P5's while you are playing.
    Play 1000 hands/day.
Fill the rest of the time w/ your friends drinking beer.
  13. I normally wake up around noon... after missing my 11 am... i go into my 12pm class fashionably late, come home, sleep till about 2:30... then I play the 3pm bounty game.

If I am still in the 3pm game at 6pm, then i skip my 6 oclock class... extra incentive to make that final table.

after that, I normally get pretty drunk and make an ass out of myself at one or more parties

If i get home early enough, and think i'm sober enough, then i play the 1am game and if i'm still in it at 4am, then i skip my 11/12 classes teh following day

EDIT:... I try to find a few hours a week to devote to chubby girls with low self esteem
  14. ok this was awesome, im doing this. thanks everyone for the advice, ill definitely be taking a lot of it.

  15. Business b4 game bro- school b4 poker.
  16. Depends on far too many factors for anyone but yourself to determine, really. Every major is different and even the same majors at different schools require vastly different amounts of time to complete satsifactorily. Judging by my roommate, for example, a BA in Graphic Design requires approximately 1/8th the time investment as a BS in Computer Science. It also depends on how much you care about things like your GPA or how much you're actually learning. There's a big difference between graduating with a 2.0 GPA 'cause you're a fuckup, a 3.0 GPA w/ little long-term retention because you're able to "cram" before exams, and a 3.5+ with greater retention because you actually devoted yourself to the process.
  17. haha, daytime is paytime, nuff said.
