I once heard a guy in a casino say 2-3 bucks for every 100 profit you make. I have no idea how accurate this is, but maybe it's helpful. fwiw the only time I cashed in a casino tourney was for almost $200, and I tipped $5.

oh, and tipping 95% is standard. You keep the buyin and gas money. -
Just come to Australia where they don't even allow tips

In a live tournament I tip the "pool" of dealers 10%. 2% is lame. 10% I am sure is too high but whatever. I don't think you walk out with 10K and leave 200 bucks for the dealers. I think u should have tipped 20 bucks for winning 200. IMHO

lol 10% wtf? unreal high

ask the dealers if 3% was removed from the prize pool; if yes, not tipping...if no, 2-3% -
5% is supposedly standard, a lot of regs/pros barely tip. Guy I know dealt in a big tourney in AC few years ago, the winner cashed 200k and left 0

Tipping should be for when an employee does you a favour above the service your paying for.
Dealing you random cards isnt doing you a favour.
Theres been a few threads about this lately. -
I play at Hustler and Hollywood Park all the time... Poker players can be really cheap. I don't think it's always about someone doing you a favor. If that were the case the waitress isn't doing you a favor by bringing the food you paid for and ordered. What are they going to do? Make you get up and get it yourself? The valet isn't doing you a favor by bringing you the car you paid to park. They are employees. I don't think that's a valid position. It's about being a good person to those that are in the service industry. Like I said 10% is too high. I don't valet at Hustler cause its close to the parking lot but I do at Hollywood Park. I give a % of my winnings at HP to a certain valet when he is there because he has young kids and works really hard. I believe you give and get back. I see the players at casinos get good prices for their food and drinks when they are playing and then tip the waitresses little or nothing. That's shameful IMO.

I don't tip for something I can do myself. I can deal cards.
I do however, tip my urologist as I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones. -
I thought about this the other day when watching the ME I mean you seriously think this. I understand that they are getting paid to be there but they are also given a very thankless job they have to sit there pretty much as long as the players do until a tourny is over and also sometimes if you have a bad beat occur a player freak out.

giving 10% sounds a bit extreme but 5% or less depending on tournament aka 9 mill ME prize = 400 K that is a bit extreme but I could understand 50K -
Probably wouldn't tip a dime if I won the main event or any other WSOP event. Harrahs rakes the crap out of this thing and I just can't see being +EV long-term to tip out on top of it.

If it was a normal live tournament where they don't take out a % for the dealers already, 3% is fine.
