  1. Can I ask some of the best MTT players, (dont be bashful) on the forum.
Do you think your reputation for being a good player, is an advantage, or a hindrance when you are playing your regular Tourneys?
  2. not a top player, but there is no doubt its an advantage against other top players...and doesnt matter against random fish....
  3. def an advantage, people just sit out when I come to their table (scared)

  4. I'm definitely not a top player, but have seen this work to a player's advantage, especially during final table deal negotiations. I think it can definitely be an advantage if the player has a good feel for how others perceive him/her at the tables in general.

    LOL wp sir...

Even tho, I've probably only started to become more known recently i'd say its an advantage. Tbh, most the time players who are gonna know who you are are prob more regulars anyway, so you just gotta be aware when ure playin
  6. What about being more of a target ?
Its probably seen as feather in the cap, for the lesser player, if they can knock a name out, especially if its a live event.

^^^^Bigtime this for the "random fish" that no one knows about. In the WSOP event I played in, must've been 10-12 bigtime bluffs where Roland De Wolfe just picked people apart with snap calls. Guy shoved w/ K-Q hi on a 10-4-7 board and De Wolfe snapped off with 7-8. 8 on the turn, game over.....

And I KO'ed Eric Seidel in the classic "race" w/ AKss vs. 6-6. Not gonna lie and say I wasn't excited to say I KO'ed Seidel. He came over and shook my hand, saw him in the Full Tilt room at the Rio after and he smiled and nodded at me when I went in. I said "races suck" and he just laughed. 100% no way he would ever remember who I am today though. Maybe, but most likely nope.

For me Vs HSMTTERS=hindrance and would be more to my advantage to have a different name.

Vs MIDSMTTERS= a big advantage feel like alot of them either spazz real big to me or they are too tight vs me, and not much in between.

    Vs unknowns= doesnt matter.

this... only thing is telling the diff between the guy who is scared of u or has a giant boner for u, and sometimes it could be the nit who loses his mind against the almighty rock, so beware!

  17. Overall, I think its a bit of a hindrance. If I had a random account I could exploit regs pretty hard by taking lines that donkeys typically take with the nuts (ie check call flop, check minraise turn... min 3 bet preflop, etc. etc.) so yea... its def a hindrance versus regs.

Vs. random players I imagine its more of a hindrance as well because you have to be observant and like pikapp said, figure out whose scared of you vs who is going out of their way to try and out play you. Mainly its a hindrance because I don't know who knows me and what they think about me, so basically everyone at the table has more information on me than I do on them. Don't see how that could be anything but bad for me. I used to hate it but now I just do my best to figure out how to exploit my image versus certain people.

  18. It definitely hurts being a top and well known hsmtter. People remember the known players game more than the randos. Also the fact that you are known usually means you can't get away with nearly as much plays as a random player could. For ex. if I 3b someone, there is a way better chance they're going to 4b shove anything they opened, or get a cold 4b from another reg behind us, etc. If a rando did this, they'd get respect a lot more. The only time this can be beneficial is when you are negotiating a deal with weaker players that know you. And I kind of agree w/ rock that mid stakes players tend to make mistakes vs you in either the too nitty or too aggro side of things. They try and level themselves a lot more, etc.

  19. It it seems, that you agree overall that its a disadvantage being a well known player.
As you say, your usual game is much better known than any random.
Thanks a lot for responding, and being open with your answers.

Bye the way, how the hell do you cope, with periods of not cashing?
Does your confidence take a big hit?
