  1. OK, so I've been in this exact situation 3 times in just over a week, and it's had me stumped every time

The first time: I have AK in middle position, sat on 80k stack with 1k/2k blinds, I make it 6k. The button moves allin for 30k, and then the BB thinks for a second and pushes allin for just over 70k.. I go into the tank, eventually fold because BB had only played 1 pot allin previously and it was with KK
Result: I fold. Button turns over AQ, BB turns over JJ, K hits the flop and I would've taken down a big pot

Second time: Almost identical situation. I have 60k with 500/1k blinds, I make it 3k to go. Cutoff moves allin for 20k, SB thinks for a second and moves allin for 40k. I would have 20k left if I call and lose
Result: I call. CO shows JJ, SB shows AA.

What is the play here? I was instacalling the first allin, because the guy's recently dropped a big stack over the course of the past 15mins and has a wide range, but the second allin I'm v worried about, as this guy hasnt been particularly active up until this point

Any thoughts on when/when not to go with AK?
  2. I would say that zackelwahn should have JJ+/AK here at a minimum, QQ+ more likely. I think this is a fair spot to fold AK, especially since you have a huge stack and are gonna find lots of opportunities to put pressure on people playing small pots and chipping up.

Why did you just minraise when you opened though? I think you should make it at least 4k or 4.5k when you raise at this level.
  3. Your raise followed by another raise followed by another raise means I'm getting out with AK. But say it's just the initial raiser after you is in. Do you call, fold, or all-in? In this case, I'm probably just calling.
  4. I'd fold in these situations, and I tend to overplay AK in MTT's.... Against 2 players all-in, and having a deep stack, easy fold imo. Even if neither have AA or KK, your not going to win "majority" of the time.

    Square
  5. Folding AK is the right thing to do in all three of these situations. Risking your whole stack with AK after you have been raised and re-raised is almost always -EV.
  6. i used to get married to AK preflop all the time in these situations, and rarely come out alive. then i started looking differently at what AK actually is - instead of saying to myself I have AK, I would say to myself I have Ace-high. suddenly it became a LOT easier to get away from.
