  1. Hello Pocket 5s.

I would like to discuss the incompetence of the majority of tournament players. So many players that are ranked on this site are viewed as "good" or "talented." I feel it is an injustice that such a high number of people read this site and follow such players, mimmicking them and cheering for them on a daily basis. While I am thrilled that the majority of the online poker community is being mislead into territory that will make them easy to play against in the future, I feel like there is some degree of false advertising going on here. Do people know that Phil Hellmuth is awful with more than ~50 bbs? Do people know that Rizen's cash game videos are poor- and most of the advice is somewhere between questionable and horrific? Do people actually follow the lead of players like Bax- held as gods in many poker circles- and want to be like them? Are people intimidated by players like PearlJammer, consistently going deep in tournaments but with embarrassing understanding of bet sizing game theory?

I realize that the tournament poker community in general does not understand hold'em theory, simply because tournaments, with limited bbs, are so far from anything other than a moderately complicated math problem. I don't think I really want anything to come from this post- more than likely it'll lead me to getting banned from pocket fives. I just want those who are lucky enough to read it to know what they're missing. I mean, no one over here is going to believe me or take anything that I say for more than heresy, but I think the select few that get a chance to see it will at least know that someone said it first when they find it out for themselves.

Does anyone understand variance? Likely not.

I apologize for mentioning the names that I did in advance, but those are the players that I had experience with. Also, if you want credibility, please check my pokerstars db (I think thats why it's called) to see how well I've done in PokerStars tournaments.

    Thanks for your time.

  2. Also, I realize that many of you are very sensitive. I apologize in advance if anyone cuts their wrists or has their dreams dashed as a result of this post.

    "You want the truth?"

Clearly you do not want to know the truth, but I'm the kind of guy to tell you it anyways.

    "You can't handle the truth!"

We're about to find that out...

  3. Trying to get banned here too? Also, in the interest of full disclosure... you play 3/6 cash correct?
  4. I don't think I really want anything to come from this post

    gtfo?
  5. I absolutely love your posts on 2+2

I'm ignorant in this regard, as I have not seen Rizen's videos, but I do know he advocates playing a very tight style against the LSNL-players, which would not work in MSNL or HSNL, but may be the optimal strategy at the lower stakes.
  6. 5/10.

    And kind of, yea.

    lol.

  7. You are up to 5/10 now? I thought you just took shots there?
  8. i think you guys should cut him some slack. i'd be down on tournament poker too if my roi was -78%

edit: im starting to think the whole point of this post was so aejones could link everyone to his PT screenshot
  9. That's my last week and a half. Do you think I should just stay? http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/5874/jurfu6.png

  11. lmfao aejones, you are such a fool, why not just sum up your whole post with...im a fucking loser mommy, how come none of the interweb kids follow and cherish me. I'm a cash game god and tournament players don't know how to play poker but they have also made way more money than me. WAAAAAAA
  12. I think it would be responsible to point out that you make more money playing cash game sthan tournaments usually, if you're good anyway.
  13. Nice run sir.
  14. i know, but not aejones
  15. o rly? whats a good month for these p5s leaderboard people. i don't mean a sick one or one with a 6 fig score, i mean a solid month of profit obv, taking out the entries of the billions of tournaments tehy play all day

  16. I semi-agree/resent this lol

  17. I'd say 20-30K profit would be a pretty good month for most top online MTTers
  18. Look man, I understand what you're saying, I just don't get the point. I mean it's not like you're saying anything revolutionary. This is obviously a site that focuses on tournament PLAYERS moreso than tournament poker.
  19. c4ll was able to say what i meant in a much nicer way ;)
  20. Aejones i wonder if you would make a post like this if you werent so emabarssing terrible at MTTs. over 23k in buyins, and 5300$ in cashes. Seriously, you suck at MTTs, therefore, everyone that plays them, must suck.

  21. ae jones I read MSNL a lot now and you always play the same as me but I still think you're sort of a tool also please don't tap on the glass
ps I make more at MTTs than you do at cash
  22. Just for the record, I've played with aejones a bit at 5/10 (XxMagiciaNxX if u remember me) and he's def no donkey. I think he makes a valid point, but also I think he's forgetting about certain aspects of the tournament game that make the style of the players he mentioned optimal, especially late in a tournament where blinds are high.

Good players are able to take advantage of certain things late that other players may miss. Also, when the stacks are deeper at the start of the tournament, a better player is able to accumulate a larger stack to put himself in position to go deep into the tournament where the real money is.

Some people also don't have the mental fortitude to lose $5,000 in real money, but losing $5,000 in the course of a week in tournaments is standard. They either go on tilt or play poorly after a bad beat where they lose real money. If a person knows this about him or herself, then it is actually better for them to stick with tournaments as being a tilt monkey in cash will lead to huge losses and will develop bad habits in your game.

Do I think that JohnnyBax is a better deepstacked player than me? Actually, I do not. But one thing I do know from my experience with him later in tournaments is that his play is very close to optimal and he takes advantage of things that I do late (and I daresay he owns me unfortunately) when the blinds are higher. He always seems to know where I am in a hand and usually makes the correct decision against me. It's something I am definitely working on, but to insinuate that someone is not a good poker player just because they play in a game where < 20BB's is the norm is very inaccurate IMO. I moved from cash to tournaments myself after playing cash professionally for 2 years and I have enormous respect for the games of guys like Bax and Rizen. Tournaments are simply a different animal and you do many things differently in them than you would in a cash game. If you play an optimal cash strategy late in a tournament you will be eaten alive, plain and simple.

  23. Yea, I remember playing with you some. I don't remember a lot, just that name and that you were aggro, but I feel like we played some decent pots vs each/ you ran good against me/ I bluffed you a lot or something. There is some reason I remember playing vs you other than you were a standard TAG. MAybe I talked crap to you or something.

  25. What a fantastic first name.

I'll try not to tap on the glass. It's hard to resist because a.) it's so much fun and b.) they usually come closer.

I believe that you have made more than I have at MTTs.

However, I would likely be willing to do a challenge in any given month that I could make more at cash than you could at tournaments. Really, it would be a ridiculous challenge and I wouldn't do it for too high of stakes, but if you didn't have a huge score mid-five-figure+, then I would think I would be in very good shape.

I also thought that 20-30k was a good month by calculations by a good poker friend and myself (he's way better than you guys at tournaments), which is why their acclaim is ridiculous, especially when you have to run hotter than the sun just to final table/ big score a tournament.

I don't want any 'daps' for this post, I get enough pleasure out of knowing how much pain there is in playing donkaments.

  27. Holy shit....I think I just found the cure for insomnia. What is the point of this entire article? Even thou your MTT game is weak in comparison to your cash game, everyone sucks?

Not sure how or why you are comparing MTT to cash anyways, 2 different animals. Typically over a duration of time, you do make more at cash games. But if you want to do a small experiment with one of the top dogs listed on this site, then why don't you let them play a tournament, see how much time they spent and the money they've made and then you can play a cash game for that same amount of time. See who has more money, that'd be fun, no?

  29. I actually agree with most of what you've said except for your naming of actual people. From what I know of, Rizen has actually had a fairly high winrate in cash games and Pearl Jammer did very well last year. I haven't seen rizen's video and I don't agree with every play every "great" mtt player makes. And, btw, Rizen is a 2+2er much more than a p5er. I like both sites but prefer to troll on 2+2 rather than post. Used to like the HSNL but mainly check out MSNL now as I'm not very interested in hu matches and the hand histories of stupid people...

Also, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the greatest cash player. I can beat 5/10 and lower but have had problems with 10/20 and 25/50 - huge problems.

That being said, lets have a sidebet. Lets bet that I make more in MTTs than you make in 3/6 from April 1st-May 31st. For stars I can get them to report my rebuys and you'd basically have to trust me on FTP and UB as I don't think they keep track.

Regarding 20-30k month being laughable - please check my stats from stars, paradise, party, ftp, and ub from last year and tell me I didn't average well over that for the entire year in MTTs.

BTW - I think you're smug attitude is cute.

Name an amount and I'm down. By 8 central tomorrow please since the results of tomorrow could easily change the EV of the bet.
