With the risk of losing Internet poker either by blackout or by losing the status quo, I feel more determined than ever to establish my self live so I have something to fall back on should Internet poker go by the way side. I`m an online pro right now that has great results in Omaha / Omaha 8(where I make my living), I also have some solid results in nlhe( chopped the 5050, sunday 250k, and 8r), but haven`t played much nlhe online as of late because I make more playing omaha.
Ive played a couple live series now, so I understand the change in pace, the different styles of play etc, that doesn`t bother me, and I have a couple final tables under my belt too. The big question I have is to go staked or not staked? I have some options for staking, but given the amount of time it takes to play live, and the fact that swings can be bigger, is it better to play staked and cut into your bottom line margin or is it better to save up and try to play off my own bankroll.
Those of you that have made it live, how have you made the transition, if you played staked what kind of deal did you work out, and if you own dimed, what kind of BR management did you use?
Thanks for any advice... -
Meh, I've said it before on these forums but I can't fathom being able to play live mtts for a living. A super standard 500 mtt breakeven stetch is like a career of badbeats.
I would just play cash and take random tournament shots personally... -
This is spot on.

You'll learn that your tournament life is something to be valued much more than in the online realm.

I wish you luck with this. Im a student right now trying to pay the bills and make the bar money by grinding $20 sngs and .25 .50 cash games. Gl

My only advice for the transition is to load your ipod up with plenty of good music/videos so you don't die of boredom playing one hand every 3-4 minutes.

Sure that stuff is nice but IMO the extra time should be used to gain tells on your opponents. Setting baseline behavior patterns so you can gain an edge when they deviate from the norm. You should always be listening and talking it up with folks.. Sure a lot of this stuff goes out the window against opponents that know how to conceal that sort of stuff but against joe blow they have no clue what patterns they have so use that against them.
