1. Hello all, I am travelling to Vegas in January in the upcoming year, and quite frankly this is the first time I have ever been there. I am travelling with a small group of friends, 6-7 people, and pretty much am looking for any tips from any of you regulars out there on things to do and see.

Pretty much any feedback on places to see and do would be appreciated, especially regarding which casinos are soft in poker, what are the must see shows and things to do. Another request is which are the best clubs? (a big priorty for me!)

From the Vegas Virgin,
Sa

P.S: The limits I would be looking to play are 2/4 up to 5/10 No Limit Holdem
2. I'm sure you'll get some great advice in this thread on poker and other things

My thought, take some time just to wander around and enjoy yourself. Just wander the hotels, see what each one offers. Don't be committed to try and see everything on your first trip, since you can't do it. Just get a feel for the strip, what it offers, and do whatever jumps out at you.

No matter how much you do, when you come back, someone will ask if you did something, you'll say no, and they'll say you missed out.

Vegas is a great vacation spot because of that.
3. Hello Vegas Virgin,

I have been a few times. You will find the weak poker games in the smaller hotels, ex: Hooters hotel on Tropicana, weakest game I’ve seen in Vegas (guys drinking lots and playing for fun, a lot of easy money) Caesars, Bellagio toughest games in Vegas.

Clubs: everywhere you go is going to be an awesome time; here are my 2 favourite clubs. Thursday at the Palms sky bar (great atmosphere, babes in lingerie professional dancers, hip-hop music, rum and coke $11) Saturday, know as the best night club in North America “Pure” at Caesars Palace (lots of different areas like outdoor balcony overlooking the strip, pussycat dolls lounge and main area with DJ and dance floor, hip-hop mostly, rum and coke $12)

Also, ask cab drivers any questions that have they are mostly nice people and happy to help out and they know the city. Ask cab drivers and doormen for VIP passes to these clubs so you can avoid paying the cover. If you want to see someone famous or pro poker players go to the Bellagio.

You and your boys have a great trip!

4. I hit Vegas 4 times a year. What I can say about the poker games is you will have to feel them out when you get there. Every time I go the games are very, very different, even in the same casinos. It depends on who is in town.

For example, in December 2007 I sat down at a 2/5 NL table at Caesars only to find two very good online players (AKAT11 and thechronic420) at the table. So needless to say, it was a tough table. On the other hand, I was just there the week of July 7 and the NL games at Caesars were full of people just giving away their money: e.g. one hand I had AA on the button and raised to $15. The BB reraised to $45 and I repopped it to $195. The BB pushed all-in with AK off, I snap-called and took it down. In another hand I smooth called a raise preflop with 35 suited, the flop came 833 rainbow and the preflop raiser pushed all in with an overpair.

So it depends very much on who is in town as to how the games will play. There will almost ALWAYS be one or more local pros in any game (even as low as $1/3 NL) so you need to feel that out once you're at the table as well and adjust your play accordingly.

You'll also need to look out for other types of sharks, for example the "cowboy" that came into a game I was playing last year, went through 3 buy-ins playing absolute trash, showing down second and third pair and busted draws, then switched gears and stacked 5 people at the table within 45 minutes, always showing the nuts (or close) at showdown except in very small pots. In the small pots he still showed trash, just to keep his maniac image alive. Was beautiful to watch... he left with 3 or 4x his original buy-in in profit.

Hope this helps. Best advice I can give is ease into any game you sit in until you get a feel for who's at the table.

Good luck and enjoy!
5. Not a "regular", been a half dozen times, hope this helps...

As was said, finding the fish means being in the right place at the right time. Don't try to predetermine where the softest play will be...just pick a place, show up and observe the action, and either sit or move on based on what you see.

I really like the poker room at the MGM Grand...it's big, well-run, spacious and comfortable. I can't wait to get back to Vegas to check out the new poker "lounge" at the Hard Rock.

As for shows, if you haven't seen Cirque de Soleil, check at one of their many different shows. I've seen Mystere, which was cool. I plan to see Love (at the Mirage) on my next trip (it's based on the Beatles' music).

As for where to stay, pick the best hotel you can get at the best price using a travel site (Travelocity, Hotels.com, etc.). Don't stay at a cheap hotel. Even though you won't spend hardly any time in your hotel room, a dive can ruin your experience.

If you love steak, check out The Steakhouse at Bally's. It's one of the oldest restaurants on the Strip, and it is awesome.

Have fun!
6. Hmmm ok, thanks for all your feedback everyone! My friends and I are thinking of crashing at TI, Treasure Island, reckon this is alright as accomodation?

Thanks alot everyone for the feedback once again!

7. When I go to vegas I play mainly 2/5nl @ Wynn (uncapped buyin) or MGM (500nl). Ceasers Palace and Venetian for tourneys.

Def ask for VIP cards from the cabbies. Body English and Tao are nice clubs. If you wanna go see some ( o Y o ) go to Seamless by the Palms.

For lunch I like Olives @ Bellagio. Nobu @ Hard Rock is possibly the best sushi around.

Penn and Teller are always fun to watch at Rio. Cirque du Soleil is most def sweet but can be pricey.

I'm psyched for my trip in Sept.
