  1. $33+3 FT Turbo SnG

    3 left

    Blinds 500/1000

    Button (650 chips): folds
SB - Me (6350 chips): All in with AKs
    BB (6500): Calls with KK

Obviously I didn't hit my ace. Shortie takes 2nd place money.

So. Do you fold AKs here?

With lower blinds, I've layed down AK many times in similar spots, but with 1500 already in the pot I just can't worry about the two hands that destroy me here. That and I really want to start HU with the chip lead.

It also got me to thinking: What range can villain put me on here? He must assume I've got a big hand to jeopardize getting HU. I honestly can't see him calling with anything less than AK or QQ. Maybe against a decent opponent I should be pushing any two.

    Thoughts?
  2. push. The BB can't call without a huge hand for exaclty the same reason. He loses this hand and he effectively gets third place money (the two other players will both be all in from the blinds the very next hand).

This same rationale means that you can probably open up your shoving range by quite a bit since your opponent can really only call here with a monster hand...
  3. No brainer shove here. You dominate almost any hand that calls, just bad timing for him to pick up kings. With only 6 blinds left, what are you going to wait for??
  4. I'm with you that AK is a shove, but what's the worst hand you'd shove here?

  5. In theory, I think you can push a huge range, but I'm a nit and would most likely only push 22+/AT+/KQ.
  6. I adopted the theory of any pair or any 2 paint plus any king suited and i have been doing very well with it.
  7. That really sucks - The BB was a 65/35 favorite which is pretty darn good and if he wins, given the stack of the button - he wins the SnG, thus he made the right move.

In that position I think I limp in. You know the button is probably out the next hand if you team up and don't get greedy.
  8. i'm pushing ATC cards here, and it's not even close, he can only call with KK+ i think if you do the ICM on it, maybe QQ (but i doubt it)
  9. You get a free pass on the next hand while the short stack has to win 2 hands in the blinds against both of you calling with any 2 cards. The object here should not have been to try and pick up 1500 chips, the object should have been to get paid.

You're not playing poker at this point in the game. Fold this hand and let the short stack die in the blinds....then you can start playing poker again.
  10. he already got paid it it's a 9 handed sng down to 3, folding here is atrocious those 1500 chips are worth a lot in EV
  11. I wasn't aware that it was 9-handed. I assumed it was 6-handed and that he was talking about bubble play.

    My bad.
  12. it's all good, wasn't trying to stir anything

if it's 6 handed sng i'm still shoving any 2 here, as if bb calls and loses, he is all in next hand in the sb
  13. That wouldn't be my style of play, but I respect differing strategic opinions. I guess it would all depend on how I'd seen the other big stack play throughout the game. Poker isn't always 100% cut & dried, right?

    Take it easy!
