  1. I am having some issues with UB checks, and I am hoping for some advice here. Really, it all boils down to this: With everything going on right now, WHY DO UB CHECKS SAY "ULTIMATE BET" IN THE MEMO SECTION??? Why not UB, or corp2, or anything else?

OK, so I recently processed two cashouts from UB, the first check arrived on Monday and I deposited it into my checking account. The bank told me they would have to put a ten day hold on the check. No big deal. My second check arrived on Friday, and I then deposited that at the same bank. The bank proceeds to tell me they must put a 30 day hold on BOTH checks, because they "don't know where they came from." Huh? Anyway, they called me after I left and asked that I come in to speak with a manager, which I will be doing on Monday.

So my question is, what am I obligated to tell them? It is nearly impossible to make up some BS story about a consulting job or something, as the checks clearly say Ultimate Bet on them. Can the bank actually deny these checks? I am fairly certain that my other bank will process these checks without all of this hassle, but I am wondering if anyone else has had issues like this.

Help? I need to go into this meeting knowing what my rights are and also what rights the bank has, in deciding whether to process these checks.

UB reps, please find a way to remove the words ultimate bet from the memo.

As a side note, these checks both arrived in less than ten days, but interestingly the check sent by fedex actually took two days longer. So I certainly commend UB for the speedy cashouts.
  2. Worst case scenario, take em to a branch of U S Bank and cash them. I deposited at Bank of America and there was no hold.
  3. Thanks for the tip computerb, and I should clarify that the bank in question is a small (ten branches) credit union. What would be the incentive for the bank to make an issue of this? They type some numbers into a computer, the funds arrive electronically, they put cash in my account. When the funds arrive, they know the check is good. Can this process take up to thirty days? If so then this makes some sense, if not then I'm confused.

  4. I would like to know more about this issue as well. I was one of the last people to switch from Checks to neteller and it didn't always go smooth. And now considering all things I am not looking forward to my attempt at cashing the $1500 check I have coming. My bank is a smaller federal credit union as well.
  5. I put 1 in my account for 700 and the funds where available almost immediatly.I bank at a small bank myself and had no problems
  6. Tell them you play poker and UB is a poker site. You have done NOTHING wrong and neither has your bank.

  7. if the bank trips take it to a check cashing place. they might charge u 1 or 2 percent but its better than a 30 day hold.
  8. You should clarify this statement steely. You have done nothing wrong if you do not live in a state that prohibits online gaming.
  9. I highly doubt any state even if it is illegal to play online is actually going to prosecute you. Almost all the anit-gambling legislation is targeted at the operators not the players. Even if the legislation states that the players can be prosecuted I highly doubt any state would since it is such a minor offense.

I have no idea why your CU is giving you a hard time but I would just say that it is a cashout from playing poker and the checks are legit. The 30 day hold is unacceptable. The longest hold allowed on a check drawn on a U.S. based bank is 11 business days. If the check is for less than $5000 dollars then the longest hold allowed is 5 buisness days. DO NOT LET THEM HOLD THE CHECK FOR ANY LONGER. You did nothing wrong and the check needs to be negotiated like any other. Check holds are governed by Reg CC and banks aren't allowed to just make up hold times.
  10. I would just take my business elsewhere. They have already accepted the checks and made the deposit. If they have any questions on verification, they can contact the bank from which the check was drawn. They should release any hold on the check once they confirm the funds are good.

I wouldn't bother with meeting with the manager of the credit union. They obviously are doing their best to get rid of a good customer.
  11. You should go to this meeting and remember one thing while you are there.....YOU are the customer. Regardless of whether it says Ultimate Bet in the memo, what if you had played in a live Ultimate Bet poker tournament and they had paid you by check and had those words in the memo......you would be going in there and rightfully demanding that they deposit your check with the standard hold on it. If you are in a state where online poker is not illegal, I would clearly ask them if they want your business or not. If they give you a hard time, go somewhere else.

I just deposited two substantial checks from pokerstars into two different accounts at my local bank and they were cleared in ONE day.

  12. FWIW-- Banks hold checks all the time to verify they are real checks... It usually depends on your account history and balance history. for instance, I get 3500 deposited in my account for my real job twice a month.... 6 months ago I received a check for 40k for state farm for an injury settlement from a car accident... Wells Fargo said there would be a 7-10 day hold on the funds so the check could clear -0 I did ask the clerk why ( since it was a major bank check and major company) She said it depends on your deposit history and is determined by the computer when the deposit is entered. she said I could speak to the MGR and he could possibly call to verify in 2 -3 business days if I wanted.. I told her it was no big deal I was just curious........Bottom line, this can happen with any deposit-- but it is NONE of their business what the money was for or where it came from... Be polite ad tell them its from business interests...
  13. I agree James, and I didn't think twice when they said they needed to put a ten day hold on the first check. When they decided to put a thirty day hold on both checks, and asked me to come in and talk about it, it was just clear that this was not a normal procedure.

Thanks all for your input. I am inclined to agree with Haleike in that this bank is treating a customer rudely, and I should just take my business elsewhere. However, I am also curious as to what the bank has to say about this issue. I will keep you informed of any new developments.

Steely, what you suggest is the route I would like to take, are you certain that the bank cannot deny processing this check when I give them that information? Or should I take the route that James suggests and just tell them it is from business interests?

And finally, UB reps, can you please change the memo line of the checks? I could email support, but since you guys are more responsive than most poker site support teams, I thought I would ask here :)
