Situation: You're already in the money, but you have a slightly less than average stack. You're in the SB with JJ and there are 3 limpers ahead of you. Blinds are 200/400/50 with a full table of 10. 2300 in the Pot.
You make it 2250 to go and all of the limpers Call. Pot is now 11,300. You have just over 25k left.
Flop comes 9 8 7 rainbow. What is your play? What is the mathematically correct play? -
I believe the best play is to check here . If you bet , there is too great a chance someone will raise you with a hand that is either winning or possibly a draw and you still have no clue where you stand .
-
Push or bet the pot.. you have no info, but if he goes all in are u folding top pair due to his draw. MAke an aggresive play and put the pressure on him for his draw..
-
That's why I find this situation very interesting. I'd really like to Check, too, but can you afford to give 3 guys a chance at a free card with a Board like that?
-
I agree. While I really hate the play with that Board, I think you have to do everything possible to deprive those 3 other guys from having correct odds to chase.
I just don't know if that's really the correct way to play this hand or not. -
Not a hand advice Q... But what tournament are you playing where you have less than average stack w/ 60 bb at that stage?
-
Dunce , don't forget that you can also benefit from a free card as well . This is why I would check here .
-
I think you automatically bet at this pot, you have a gut shot for the str8 and an over pair, you probably have the best hand at this point and with no flush draw to beat you, then you are only worried about another over pair ( which i doubt is the case because nobody reraised pre flop) or the made str8 which you could tie with a 10.

A micro-limit monstrosity where people play anything and 3/4 of the field is gone by the 30/60 level.
-
That's essentially how I figured it too.
So, I bet 6k. That chased out the 2 looky-lou's, but the Button Called.
Turn was a 5. At my level, people will play 6 x to a Raise, so I Checked. So did the Button. River was another brick, and I bet 5k. The Button min-raised.
I'd like to say I had everything figured out to a cat's whisker, but, it really came down to being too stubborn to just meekly surrender half my stack. I Pushed.
In this case it worked out. He Called and turned over 10 10, which was a total surprise.
So, this time it worked out, but I'm still not sure I played it correctly, and down at the donkey level where I play, I am going to find myself in a similar situation again.
