so i'm from the DC area and the only home game i've been able to find is a very well run game with 2 tables, many flat screen tvs, free dinner and snacks. the only problem is the game has a $10 rake per hand when pots are over $100 which is pretty much every hand. it's a 2/5 nl game with a $500 capped buy in. is this game even worth my time? do i have to be absolutely crushing the game for it to be worthwhile? thanks for your thoughts.

That's a pretty healthy rake indeed...they're taking about $25/hr from each player off the table. So that's 5 BB. If the game is soft, you could be beating it enough to pay that and still make a profit...but not a lot.
How good is the dinner? Maybe you treat it like a lot of solid video poker players treat double-point days at the casino. You know, "well, I'm breaking even on the game, but I'm getting comped for the buffet, so I'm still ahead".... -
lol, nh.

thats cuz its faced down, turn it over and uve got a whole nother monster to overcome

How much do they they rake under $100 ?
-
it's 10% up to $10.

I live in fairfax VA too. Most area games I know of that are 2/5 rake between 7 and 10. So you are playing at one of the higher raked ones, but not getting super gipped. If game is loose it should be profitable, but make usre ammenities are worth it. If not loose enough search for other games in area. Montgomery county is about a 45 min drive but it is your best bet. VA has a poker vice squad that doesnt mess around so it will be hard for u to find a game really close to you.
If you really think the rake is unfiar, there are 5/10 games in the area that rake 10. Just do ur research. -
Hmm - where I play they take 5$ per player every half hour. So 10$ an hour.

Wow thats steep, my best advice would be to run a game that rakes 5 a hand, get some kegs and a ton of chicken wings/fried chicken.

"And get a corner suite at the local jail house reserved in advance, just in case."
also, stop at sams club and pick up a 20 pound tube of ky jelly -
I've been at 4 local games in my town that have been raided by the TBI (Tennessee Bureau of Investigation), and not once have I been charged for anything or even threatened with jail time. All they have done is brought up charges against the person in charge of the game. So, I don't know where you all play that are scared of going to jail and needing KY, but it is not like that here, not at all.
