95% of the time, if someone starts out a thought by saying "I am not a racist" or "I don't have anything against women", then you should discount everything they say after that.
The people who know me....know that the following observations fall into the other 5% of the cases. If someone reads the following and somehow thinks I lack respect for races other than my own, they are mistaken or I have simply done a bad job of expressing myself.

I play alot of cards. Well, hold'em actually. I have a fondness for limit hold'em because I think I "get it" and I am proud of the fact that I am a long term winner in that game. Second to that, I like to play live tourneys. Last place for me is live no-limit, but I still am a long term winner in that game, just don't play it as much. I don't care for online play, so my discussion below is about live play.

So, I have sat my ass at a lot of poker tables is what I mean to say. Bar games, casinos in Vegas, AC, Tunica, and the Gulf Coast. Over the years, I have come to make the following observations, based solely on the physical appearance of the player. These are generalizations I make from the start that are subject to change as actual play progresses:

Good looking women: They are usually not very experienced and so they are subject to making bad plays. They especially like to call with flush draws with bad odds. My theory on this is that good looking women have better things to do than play cards and so never learn the game properly.

Women in general: They think men are bluffing way more often than we really are. Women spend their entire lives being lied to by men, so they extend this line of thinking to the poker table.

Women tend to play tight. When they raise (especially pre-flop), they have a hand.

Black Men: More likely to defend blinds.

Bluff more often on the turn than they should. They tend to make intense eye contact when bluffing.

They are very good at picking up on non-verbal tells. I can't explain this, I just think they are good at it.

Enjoy "smack talking" during a game. They have some funny shit to say too. Sometimes white people do not understand this and get offended, but it is not meant to be truly insulting....just part of the game for them. I think it is an extension of outdoor sports where such smack talk is encouraged and more expected.

Apparently, black women do not like to play cards at all, because I can't remember playing any black women....ever. It might be a cultural divide that I don't understand. I am keen to hear some opinions on this subject.

Asian Men: Aggressive players. Will protect raises preflop too often. In other words, once they make a raise preflop, they will tend to call a reraise even if they were on a pure bluff to start with.

They want to see a flop and play too many hands.

Asian Women: They play too many hands also. They suffer from tricky play syndrome because they tend to call, call, call, and then save the raise until the river card. When they do this, they have the nuts. I have only played asian women at limit....they don't play much no-limit.

College-aged white boys: They play live games very much like they play on the internet.

They like to look at their cards as soon as they get them. *If they look at them again before the flop, it means they do not have a pocket pair--they just want to make sure they remember.

They have a wide variety of non-verbal tells. I think this is because they learn and play so much on the net, where they can yell and act-out when playing, they never learn how to control their non-verbal ticks.

They like to explain why their opponents "didn't play right" in one situation or anothe--as if anyone at the table considers them an authority on cards. It never occurs to them they are giving others a tutorial on how THEY are going to play hands.

They dress badly, and tell WAY TOO MANY bad beat stories.

They assume the button can't possibly have a hand and is only betting on position--every time.

They assume every bet made by the initial raiser is a continuation bet and subject to a reraise.

They assume you should have read every poker book they have.

They make horrible reads on opponents cards, and then like to show how "smart they are" by verbalizing those reads for all to hear. Pay attention when they do this, because what they are really telling you is how THEY play.

They get bored easily and start playing too many hands. They are accustomed to playing multiple tables online or playing one table and watching TV and listening to music at the same time. So one table is just too dull.

Old people: They learned to play stud....and consider holdem to be "stud for dummies".

They have seen every bad beat imaginable and do not want to hear your stories about bad beats (see college boys above).

They have all had royal flushes. And no, they didn't get any action on their's either.

They like to play limit, not no-limit. They think aces are magic and will hold onto ace-2 to the river in a limit game "just in case." When the ace hits on the river...and they raise....they have the ace....just fold and save your last bet.

In limit, they get annoyed when you raise them preflop too much, and will likely start reraising you with nothing just to get you to cut it out.

Old men will soft play young women. 80 years old and STILL trying to get laid.

They expect you to speak to them with respect if you are under 40 (and you should).
