I can't seem to understand why he would play this hand this way? I'm not a very good player, but it seemed like an unusual play in this spot? Can anyone help explain?

I loved how kubik-rubik just tried to convince him to deal by telling him he might not continue to be so lucky
-
They keep begging them to deal. If I was kubik, no way I'm looking at numbers until 3 handed unless chip stacks even out. I guess if I was in that situation i might think differently about the money but he needs to rock with that chip stack.
-
yeah, I can't stop laughing at kubik's begging- phil finally just shut it down
-
lol @ these deals every week...tank got extra 20k with like 7 bbs lol
-
I wonder how someone whos been playing over 4 years and only won a +1k prize in a SNG manages to take down 128k in the sunday million.
-
Why did nobody respond to posters question? Whats the point of pushing 89o UTG with 10BB on the Mil FT?
-
cause UTG is the new button?
-
even for me (a nit) its the new button, but only with a decent stack so i can represent certain hands even after the flop, that push is just BAD
-
Push is pretty standard because he has 10bbs and the blinds are about to pass through him again. Before they do he still has a good amt of fold equity. His fe is amplified by the fact that he's shoving utg and its the final table of the sunday million with inexperienced players who are watching the payout structure closely and will not be calling him down light enough. So all these factors make it an ideal time to shove.
If he waits blinds go thru him and he has like 8.5bbs and his fold equity really begins to become more diluted.
Prime example of what you are holding is only a small consideration as to how you play the hand. Too many other factors at work here. -
LOL in that case look at last weeks winner, a losing player with 11$ ave buy in, I guess just at the right place at the right time :(
-
Even if he is called they wont have a 8 or 9 very often. Therefore 36% Equity vs. AK.
-
Yeah all the things u said r obv right, and i know what ure talkin about, id rather let the blinds go through tho and push from sb or bu if folded around, still nobody will call cause they scared, and i think ure a bit result oriented here, come on if a 1$ ABI donk would do that push it would be a horrible gamble or not? If such a player makes that push and is lucky it is genious and we shall all do the same and get on his level.. Maybe depends on the players/reads etc but still crazy push. Dont like it at all and prolly will need some months to understand this play.. Would like to hear more opinions about this hand.

EZ game

But they also probably dont call with 77 or worse, does that mean we also push here with 23o and pray that the caller has ak so we have 36%? hope everybody posts his own opinion and not the opinion of the majority. And for u who push this all day, what else do u push here? -
I think that this is a good push because he's more likely to have 2 live cards in this spot
If you consider antes, he has less than 10 bbs right before blinds hit him. I probably curse out my computer and push here as well. -
is it really worth to take that risk and increase our stack by 2bb, just to get it decreased in the next 2 hands, with 89o, utg with 8 players left to act.. if i knew its +EV id def do that, but like i said before if were hoping to be life with 89o, were also life with 23o so we have to push that as well? cant see how someone calls there with 77 or worse if theyre so bad. dont know if its too nitty, have problems to tell my range here if i dont know anything about the other players and the dynamics, but my general pushing range would be something like 55+ or maybe any pocket, AJ+ or a bit looser
if i expect there are a lot of decent players on my table who will call me light i dont make a desparate push with what i call air from utg.. thought the main faktor are the nitty/scary players? -
i mean as of now he has fold equity. if blinds pass him without getting it in n the blinds raise before he does he dosent have fold equity and longer. I mean i know u think omg 89 but theres more to it then that. hte fact is his hand dosent really matter, yea it should be live vs most calling hands but not really sure thats the point. yea people are scared at this point of the tourny and with the pay jumps people might be folding in spot they shouldnt and he knows that. also the fact that the players should know that he is phildo n a compent player
-
This. If he folds here the blinds eat him up and he loses a lot of fold eq. Plus it will take a strong hand to call him which just won't be there that often. Pretty standard shove even though you hate to have to do it ...

well maybe i got fooled by the 180s turbo too often.. such a push never ever worked there and i made them a few times.. obv SM ft and 180s ft are far from the same.. btw if its +ev i also push there every day, but didnt work one time for me. so id probably take my 5 sec before (probably) folding, hope ill be so sick one day to make it an easy push (not a horrible push anymore, 10bb - 8.5bb seems like not a big difference, 5mil - 4.25 mil is actually a big difference)
