  1. When you all go through the inevitable downswings of nl holdem, about what % of your BR do you lose before you start coming back up. When i first started putting serious hours into poker a couple months ago i was up a couple grand from just $5mtts and .25/.50 nl holdem. Recently though, i havn't FT'd any MTTs (600man) for almost a month (playing 1 a day) and have lost considerably more money than i won in the past couple weeks in cash games.

Is this a normal downswing or should i seriously reconsider my approach to the game? I am always looking to improve my game, but maybe i need a complete change of course and i was just really lucky when i first started.
  2. Reason it has been so long is bc you play 1 a day.
  3. before you know the true meaning of variance..you will definately learn how to spell it correctly :-}
  4. so, 600 man tourney, 9 make FT, thts 1 in every 66 people make the final table. u havent made one in say 31 tournaments.....and you think your on a downswing? please gtfo, and oh, enjoy the next 35 days
  5. the first -30-40% downswong was soul crushing, I hope the next is less crushing.
  6. considering you play .25/.50 NL 20 buy-in downswings arent uncommon and pretty standard.

So, a guy makes a new account....ask his very first question.....and you tell him to gtfo? really? That's going to be good for business.....
  8. But seriously change the title and spell variance correctly.

  11. Hahah, i expected some internet trash to make posts on this thread so no worries, i wont hold this against pocketfives. And while yes one mtt a day isn't much, i still went from top 20 at least once a week to maybe top 70 once a week. Maybe i got lucky in the beginning which spoiled me, but it still seemed odd.

So a 10 buy-in downswing isn't very uncommon? That's good to know because when i started losing i thought "wtf is wrong with me" which really killed my confidence, and thus made me lose even more money haha.

EDIT: I strongly believe that my version of "variance" is far superior and so i will not conform to you Webster nuthuggers.

  12. Opie, a 35 game downswing (non cash) isn't all that unusual when it comes to playing mtts with a decent field size. It could go on a lot longer than that and it may be quite some time before you even hit another final table. If you are going to play mtts, expect a lot of disappointment along the way. Keep learning and grinding away and hopefully you will run hot for awhile and things will start to pay off for your hard work.

That being said, the odds are you will hit a final table long before you get a straight/non douchebag response to an honest question from the cocky trolls on pocket 5's, that forget what it was once like to be a beginner.

I have 10 buyin swings a ton but I 24 tble, how many are you playing?
  14. Probably a normal downswing, but always look to improve your game, sure.

My recent graph for PLO if it makes you feel better (running 14 buy-ins below EV)

"Ironing or smoothing is the work of using a heated tool, or tools, (an iron) to remove wrinkles from fabric. The heating is commonly done to a temperature of 100Celsius."

    Such Irony..!

Heh lately I've felt like that, but I never really notice when I'm running superhot (or I never really appreciate it), I just go "WEEE UP 10 BUY-INS TODAY I'M THE FUCKING MAN" instead of "HOLY SHIT THE DECK IS DESTROYING ME"

Thank God I use the PLO EV$ calculator, or I would have quit that game by now, declaring myself hopeless
  23. Is there definately a non-canadian way to spell this word? never mind, i definitively should have known better to post such crap thru (through) this forum tonite(tonight) in such a colorless (colourless) way.

FWIW, my point was that you will(and have) learnt how to spell it long before even the majority of us figure out what variance truly is, because all i know is that variance is truly one big fucking BIATCH.
