Are verbal agreements to chop binding?

    I was heads up in a $11 45-man SNG on FTP. The chipleader asked in chat if I wanted to chop. I agreed and he told me to select the "deal" button, which I did. He then pushes all in and I call. He wins the hand and I get second place money. I've never used the "deal" button before on FTP and wasn't sure how it worked. It seems that I got screwed -- is his verbal agreement to chop binding?
