Get dealt AKo, one guy raises it to 260 (13x BB), I shove all in, he flips JJ and holds.
I still think I made the right play, anyone disagree? I figured there's no way he raised that much w/ AA KK with no limpers/raisers, thought I'd be coinflip or AQ/AJ. -
Just out of interest, how low is low?
I probably do the same.
Make a player note and fire up another one. -
$6.50 turbo...very low :)

standard shove

He probably put you on A,K or something .

6-max or FR? Either way, I'm not so sure that you should be willing to "hopefully" flip for your whole stack on the first hand. Not exactly sure what the math is on this, but it just doesn't seem to be the most optimal situation if you feel that you have a skill/post-flop edge over the other players at your table and be able to exploit that edge later on.

If this was a live, one game tourny or high stakes, I'd agree with you...but I'm 4 tabling low stakes here w/ high volume, think I gotta go for the win...I put my odds slightly ahead of a coinflip, which is why I called, if I lose, fck it.

A single table sng you are playing to cash first, then climb the payout ladder to first. In a 45man I think I take the coinflip, in a 9-18man I just fold. overbets like this are usually 88-QQ an AQ+. Low limit players often dont know how to play postflop, so with strong vulnerable hands they tend to over raise pre.

I have a question. I always thought that when not short stacked and playing AK, that one of the ways to win the hand is for initial raiser to fold. Based on his raise, it does not appear that he is going to fold, therefore taking away one of the ways to win the hand.
Due to this, I would probably re-evaluate the shove. Is this too nitty?
Thanks,

Playing for first this early in the tourney is a leak. The payout structure does not justify it. 60% of the prizepool is paid out once you hit 3 players, leaving small increases for first and second. 9man grinders will tell you consistently cashing is more important than the win.

By the time you get to the final 4 you are in push fold mode and that coinflip you took early means very little at this point. I also think we can get our chips in much better than a 50/50 early on in these tourneys.
Being a nit early is profitable in these games. Changing gears in the late stage is the other half of the equation. we are not nitting it up to 4th, we are nitting it up until the blinds get high compared to our stack or other stacks that we then switch to aggression in push fold....
