Hi my name is Ryan irl, and I play under the handle "RJules" on fulltiltpoker.com...where you can learn, chat, and play with the pros. I am somewhat of a high stakes regular, and the following incident occurred the other night while multi-tabling. I was playing 5 tables when I noticed that another hsmtt player was sitting out at my 30 rebuy table on FTP. I recognized his name and also saw that he was sitting at my Fifty Fifty table simultaneously. Thinking that I would want him to do the same, I tried to get his attention in the chat:
RJules: yo welch

RJules: gl
RJules: send me 25% if u scoop
ryanwelch: def
He then sat back in at our 30r table and this hand occurred:

He continued to chip up and as you can probably imagine, ryanwelch came back from 6.63 Big Blinds to win the 30r for $8,200! Very well done ryanwelch. I stayed up for about another hour after he won the tournament and awaited my transfer. It never came. I woke up in the morning and checked my pocketfives mailbox. In it was this:

Now I want to hear what people think of this situation. Thank you and I look forward to hearing your responses. I will be checking the thread in order to justify my thoughts about the situation.Originally Posted by gutshtallin

I thought 100$ was more than gracious to give you for just typing in a chat box(i have done this on many occasions and never asked for anything in return).
Wow people are truly spoiled.....

wha?
thats some insaneo self righteousness on ur part- for someone that is a "high stakes reg", u sure come off as ridic busto -
lol @ him owing you anything. way to post pms too.
-
he doesnt owe u shit imo, be happy he tossed u a 100 spot.fuck, everyone trying to get something for nothing.
-
seems pretty ridic to think he owes you 25%. he def recognizes you as a high stakes reg and probably thought you were kidding. no one would legit ask for 25% for doing someone a favor like that. when i read the chat u posted i no way thought u were serious in asking for 25%. 100$ is 100 too much imo.... i woulda just sent a pm saying thanks.
-
Wow, how about just telling him because it's the right thing to do without even considering material rewards.
Is this seriously for real? -
RJules: send me 25% if u scoop
ryanwelch: def
I'm not sure what the argument is. Proof right here. No lol's, No "haha, we'll see." Can't tell tones on the internet. Pay the man his money. -
a deal is a deal
lol at people saying "is this a level?" He would have blinded out but instead he ripped the tourney for $8,200. His thanks is $100? I mean I can understand not wanting to send the full 25% esp being backed, but come on a 100 bucks? Rjules is not the one that comes off as cheap here. -
I don't know ... yes, he does not have to give any money to someone that "just" reminds him that he is sitting out. But given the fact that he agreed to the 25% transfer in case of shipping ... that is usually considered a contract in any business area that I know of. He should have just said thanks and not commented on the 25% - but agreed to the 25% (if "def" is not meant in a sarcastic way) - so he owes 25%. A totally different question is whether it is ok to ask for money for a reminder but given the situation ... that does not matter here.
-
What a sick situation. I'm sure when both of you made this agreement neither thought anything of it. 25% is kinda steap. I'd settle for 500 and be cool with it. Especially if he's backed. And it was pure coincidence, freak occurance.
-
Someone coming back from short stack to winning a tourney doesnt happen often and many ppl will accept deals that are 'impossible' and see it as a 'joke' in those spots. If the improbable happens its easy to get away from that spot saying 'lol, i was joking'. If you do agree to something crazy in writing, and it does happen, how do you go back on the agreement? I'm sure both parties didn't think the outcome would occur, but both parties agreed on % split. Its ez to say "def" when u think ur not cashing or min cashing but becomes harder when u hit top 3. i know there was a ton more work after the 1 hand to bring ryan to the number 1 spot but dont say 'def' and then back out if u run good and take it down. (been there with friends when i split 50% of each other in tourneys and it sux when they bust in the first 3 lvls and u run deep, but i keep my word)
-
First of all if rjules doesnt say anything...welch without a doubt blinds out...waste of min 90 bucks if hes in for the abs min...he clearly agreed to the 25% which seems like alot...but it was if he won which he did...crazy that it happened but it did...then he sends 100bucks...why even send anything? Maybe 25% is too much but dont agree on it then...welch should pay up simple as that...he would have 8k less if it werent for rjules sayin somethin and that should be recognized...welch looks like a scum bag imo...k bye

integrity [?n't?gr?t?]
1. adherence to moral principles; honesty
If RJules does not say anything, then ryanwelch is unaware, consequently blinds out - and does not get paid. However, he took the time to act diligent and professional towards a respected HS reg and advise him accordingly.
It is amazing how quickly character and personhood is compromised when it comes to money. All of you responding with "be happy with $100" must not understand the basic principles of integrity so I'll do you all a favor for the take away:
1. Ability to connect with others and build trust
2. Oriented toward the truth and reality
3. Finish well
4. Embrace, engage, and deal with the negative (this exact situation)
5. Oriented toward growth
6. Have an understanding of the transcendent
Please take accountability for your actions Ryan. We've chatted before in PMs and you seem like a good dude - my hope is you do what is fair and right pursuant to your commitment. -
I mean if I were him I would have just responded "haha" or "we'll see" or "lol". When he says def, it pretty much means ryanwelch is thinking "ya if i come in 1st which is highly unlikely id ship." But I don't blame him at all as even $100 is some compensation. That said OP is crazy for even asking for 25% in the first place and expect someone to take it serious. You prob didn't even take it serious until you saw him actually win.
-
i hope gutshtallin doesnt get a bad rap for this. he seems like a nice guy
also, how fkin good is that guy? sick brag post for gutsht imo
edit: lol gutsht prolly shoulda given up and taken 2nd. this is one of those times where 2nd place > 1st place. (that is if it was a solid deal/agreement, which i do not believe) -
op learned a lesson IMO. don't remind him next time.
-
RJules arent you the same dude who told quiet winner to send you 1500 dollars for one hand history LOLLLL ? to even request 25% is beyond ridiculous. To go as far as to attempt to ruin someones name over something that wasn't even agreed upon or verified to the point where he should ever be held accountable is down right dirty. You seem liek a huge piece of shit to me.

FTR I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. My earlier post did not reflect the sentiment.

RW is a backed player. He has no authority to give any percentage away. Anyone with a functioning brain knows this and can tell when he says "def" it's in a dismissive joking way like when you're at the bar and you ask your boys if you can snag that 10 across the room. "def"
-
First of all how can RJules be getting any hate from this? Seems like he went out of his way to let RWelch know he was sitting out. RWelch then agreed to a ridiculous deal, thinking there was a chance in hell. Then boom, prestoooooo. RWelch owes this man money. Although I think they could come to an agreement under 25%.
-
RJules,
I know you from Bodog and you have always seemed like a cool guy but there's no way you can be serious about this 25%. That's an absolute joke. Obviously you dont believe in karma because telling someone they are blinding out of a tourney is something you should do as a nice gesture, don't do it because you are looking for a handout. You are better than this and are not a hustler. Ryan Welch is one of the most respected poker players online and is a helluva nice guy. He doesn't deserve this BS. The fact that he even shipped you $100 is pure gift to you. He obviously was joking about the 25%, there's no way anyone would agree to this BS. And the fact that you are trying to ruin his name over this BS is totally unbelievable. You are better than this. Karma, pass it forward.
