I've thought about this thread for a while now, and the more and more I think about it... I feel that RJules not only is a pos, but he should have his winning's siezed and account suspended until he apologizes for attempting to ruin the integrity of one of Full Tilts highest regarded grinders.
Such blasphemy it makes me sick.. 25% guy u cant be real, just like his response "def" which obv meant "yea.. ok.. lol" obv not being serious...
Prob. wise for you to stay off the tables for a while.. mad regs gonna be poppin u non stop making your life miserable and impossible to meneauver in tournaments... gl 2 u tho. -
Ugly situation but RJULES, Did you really expect someone to ship you over 2000$ dollars because you told him he was sitting out? Isnt that something any decent person would do out of common decency?
If I was Welsh I would regret shipping you the hundred now, it was a nice gesture and your reply was an insult.
He obviously thought you were kidding, his only mistake was having said "def".
You really come across as a greedy POS. -
See there is a thing called elasticity of demand and if demand is inelastic, when prices go up people still buy the product in essence demand didn't fall much due to price increase. It is the customers willingness to pay. OBV everyone in this thread basically agrees 25% is outrageous, but Ryan agreed to it and showed a 'willingness' to pay such an outrageous amount.

Question to manch or anyone really... if you are a backer and your horse agrees to a 80/20 cut instead of 50/50 then why wouldn't the backer take this deal? Of course most deals are 50/50 etc but if the backer could get a higher %, why would he agree to a lower one? Just to be nice??? makes no sense...
so obv Rjules asking 25% is ridic sure but the only thing i'm really tripping on is ryan said yes... easy game saying "no go fuck yourself" and this thread never happens..... -
Unfortunately for Rjules, after careful consideration I've realized, is wrong in this matter. There happens to be no agreement at hand, there seems to be one but on deeper notice there isn't.
Look, Rjules gives Ryan the information for free, then demands a %. Had he said, "Ryan I have information that could net you a nice profit but I want 25% for the information I'm willing to hand over" then sure there is an agreement before the information was exchanged. But rjules, you told him what it was before you said a % and now I can easily see how Ryan just thought you were joking.... such a mess tho i wish he just said "no" and this never happens -
RJules: send me 25% if u scoop
the first question a judge would ask is were you serious when you said this?
If you say yes the second thing he's going to say is you can't be serious.
the next thing he's going to say is how much do you charge little old ladies for helping them cross the street? 25% of what's in their purse?
and then if you save someone's life what do you charge for that?
Point is you did something nice for the guy and then turned around and tried to take advantage of the situation. I don't think you were serious when you said it.
i have to ask myself how many people really believe they should get anything for doing what you did. the answer to that is zero in my mind.
Send a thank you for the c-note. case closed.
-
Wow. Can't believe this. My thought is OP is a douchebag for starting this, as i would appreciate getting anything but not expecting anything. LOL at the so vastly different oppinions on this.
With all that being said, and i think $100 was a great jesture. I thought what i would do in the same situation and even though it was in jest and not taking seriously, I would ship the 25% as my word is my bond.
but don't do it now as the guy expected it and doesn't deserver a dime
-
First thing that popped into my head after readin the OP
-
RJ was so insulted by the hundo no doubt he insta-shipped it back to ryanwelch.
-
I feel fucking dumber for having read this bullshit. Are you serious RJ? I hope you posted this as a fucking joke. Your lucky he even sent you a $100. I wouldnt have sent shit. To come in here and post something like this to try and tarnish Welch's imagine is fucking ludacris. It was a nice gesture on your part to tell him he was sitting out. I know Welch personally and know 100% he would have done the same for you and not asked for a penny back.
What makes me even more dumbfounded is people respond to this dude and its 5 pages long. ( I guess I can include myself in 1 of the morons who respond to morons now) -
to me it looks like OP did a favor for someone, and then demanded/expected compensation after the fact... very weak imo. and besides, 25% is beyond ridiculous. OP shouldn't expect anything and gutsht was very gracious to ship the cnote.
-
lol these posts aren't even real anymore... level or the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Welch is the boss.
-
question> if the OP had said send me 10% or 5% if you scoop, and someone replied with saying "DEF" and then went on to " scoop" would we still think it was ridiculous for OP to expect 5-10%?
-
He didn't owe you anything.
-
It many not be clear cut what his "moral" obligation to pay is, but it is clear there is not legal obligation.
To have a valid contract you have to have 1) offer, 2) acceptance , 3)consideration in that order.
This is usually along the lines of
1) "I will paint your house if you pay $100" (offer)
2) "OK, paint my house" (acceptance)
3) house gets painted (consideration)
---> valid contract
Here we have :
1) "hey you are sitting out" (consideration)
2) "Ship me 25%" (offer)
3) "Def" (acceptance)
---> no valid contract
So sometimes the law does protect us from dbags. -
Initially I was shocked to hear Jules post. This is a wierd spot though. When Welch remembered the situation and the chat he felt obligated to ship some token amount of cash. It's really too bad this turned out the way it did. I can't say Welch looks bad .
The only thing that may have prevented this was a PM from Welch to Jules to settle this privately instead of arbitrarily choosing $100 . Making Jules aware of interpreting the 25% as a joke. They could have settled it some way as a result. I don't think this should have made a public forum - does make Jules look real petty. -
Embedded in the elements of offer and acceptance is the concept of a "meeting of the minds" or "mutual assent", which must exist for there to be a valid contract. In this case, it seems very likely that there was no meeting of the minds or mutual assent, in that the circumstances indicate that the conversation was in jest and not a serious offer and acceptance, certainly at least in the mind of Ryan Welch.
If I were the trier of fact I would first conclude that this was non serious small talk at a poker table and therefore non binding as there was no intent to form a binding agreement.
I would then conclude that the OP is an opportunist looking to take advantage of a situation in which a reasonable person would have simply notified the player that he was sitting out without any expectation of compensation. Because there is no reasonable expectation of compensation. -
Way to go, OP. Now, ryanwelch is fired from his backers for transferring money without permission. I hope you're happy.
Also, how do you know he wasn't replying "def" to your original statement of maybe he'll ship the tournament now. He was on alot of tables at the time obviously if he didn't realize he was sitting out here. It probably wasn't the case... just sayin. -
I'd be happy with the 100. The 100 seems like a pretty stand-up thing to do. He owed you NOTHING what-so-ever! IMO this makes Welch look good not bad.

another level in this threadddddd?

It's one of those situations where, if I was the one who said "def", I would feel obligated and I WOULD ship 25%, however if I was on the other end I wouldn't really expect it (not to mention I wouldn't ask for it). So I can see both sides of this, I am a man of my word myself, but I really don't think many others are. To berate the OP for this is pretty unwarranted, especially if the OP himself would have shipped if the roles were reversed. Do I think he deserves 25%? Of course not, not even close, $100 is more than generous. However, it would bug me because I know I would ship.
It has happened to me online before and it is annoying as hell. I was playing in a nighly 100k a few years back and this guy was talking tons of shit to me for no reason. We were about even in chips about half way through and I said something like, "I'll sidebet you for $x last longer"...He responded "I'll give you 2-1 odds on that". I outlasted him and never got my money (I think it was around $500). He removed himself from the player search and that was that. Had I lost, the money would have been shipped from me no questions asked, that's the annoying part. I basically made a bet that I could lose, but couldn't win. That's why I will never make a bet in chat again. -
Wow, how is that real that his backers would cut him for that, I mean they have to be delusional if they think that this causes him to be an untrustworthy player lol. He def. shouldve responded to rjules with an lol or something not a "def" imo, also but i think the money issue is beside the point, how can anyone drop him in their right mind and basically judge his whole character and resume based on one incident like this and drop him for the long run. They themselves are burning money imo.
