I have been reading and learning a lot more about poker lately. Finally learning the ins and outs of it and doing a lot better in the game. I am now stuck thought on a few things.
1. What is CO? "Cut-Off", and is this a good or bad position?
2. Why do most play so tight "UTG", why is this a bad position? Because if someone raises, you will more than likely end up out of position?
I think that it for now, if you guys can think of a little advice that helped you the most starting out I would appreciate it. Thanks -
Cut-off is seat to the right of button. Second best position to be in. People generally play tight utg because u have worst position unless you are against blinds, u have no reads on how everyone else thinks of their hand pre because u act first, and there are more chances (8 of them) that someone has a good hand out there and will re-raise or trap u, whereas in later position, like cutoff, if 5 people fold u obv don't have to worry about them, now only 3 chances someone has a good hand.
BTW, lots of pros and other plays have started to play loose UTg because everyone looks at a raise from there as super strong, so people dont play as tight as they use to. -
1. The CO or "Cut-Off" is the position one off the button. If it folds around to you, you can raise, "cutting-off" the button from making a raise and attempting a blind steal (or just limping in, would make the buttons blind steal raise less effective).
2. UTG is first to act preflop, and right after the blinds early to act, on the rest of the streets. You want to play tight, because if you limp in, you have the rest of the table yet to act that may raise you. If you miss the flop, in late position, if it is checked to you, you can check also and get a free card. In early position if you check, later players may bet, or if you bet they may raise.
Position is important. You can react to the other players who have already acted, instead of guessing what they might do when you act first.
