This past weekend on sunday, as usual, cake poker ran its two biggest tournaments - the 50k and 100k guaranteed tournaments, with $100 and $150 buyins, respectively. I was at the final table of one of them pretty much until the end. The player who won seemed to never show down and essentially win every hand he played. I am not one to jump to conclusions and make any accusations, but something didn't feel right, so i sharkscoped him. nothing. when the tournament ended the result came up, and it was his first tournament on the site. He did not satellite in, and he played that tournament, and only that tournament, on that sunday.
didn't really bother me at the time, didn't think much of it, people get lucky. That is, until I noticed the name of the dude who won the 100k and decided to look him up out of curiosity. "MEXICAN DAD", it turns out, was also playing his first game on cake that sunday. He played that one tournament, and that one tournament only.
Point is, both the 50k and 100k were won by players playing their first ever game on cake. They played no other tournaments that day, and have not played since. I'm inclined to believe it was just coincidence... but it's a very strange one. thoughts?
This isn't any sort of formal accusation. If you are going to respond and flame me, seriously, find something better to do. Don't tell me I'm just mad because I'm losing and I think it's rigged...I'm not, and I don't. I'm more just curious if anyone else finds this as strange as I do. -
Cake has internal people that play tournaments.
-
kind of like when the same dude won the 50k and 100k on the same day on cake?
-
Why would you play at a site that is not reputable?
-
You can change your name once a week. I change mine every week and only play the 50k and 100k. So if anyone were to every scope one of my names they would have seen the same thing.
-
For what its worth, I played a couple thousand games on cake poker and I always thought the site was kinda shady. I wont name names but I did confirm that the 2 guys with the highest ROI in the buyin level I had been playing were friends that lived near each other. I can see how that could be possible with the small base of players that cake has, with the two friends working with each other to better their games, but the ROI they were sustaining was beyond anything I ever thought possible. In fact it was more than double anything I thought was possible. I'm not accusing anyone of anything at the moment, but I figured I'd mention it since I'd actually be interested in hearing anything anyone else could come up with about the site.

ok, so there is a good chance that at least one of them is someone good/well-known who changes his name every week and only plays cake on sundays. thanks for responding
however, you'd think someone like that would be playing more than just the one tournament on that day... neither of them played in the other tournament.
but whatever, I mean I'm sure it really is a coincidence, I just wish I was that lucky. Fck. -
Yeah, the fact that neither played the other tournament is what makes me think this isnt a regular that changes their name all the time
-
If you're not changing your name regularly there. You're doing it wrong.

Why would cake allow people to change names?
Maybe because its a great fucking cover for things exactly like this. -
dont know what to say about your situation
but in dec. i was playing 3/6 nl on there and was in b/t 2 players from the same city who were blatantly colluding, saved the hand where one guy ended up 5b aipf with KJo vs me, i emailed and 2 hours later they email back and say there is no suspicoius activity after review, im like wtf, really 2 hours and u looked into it and didnt see the blatantness
it was annoying enough that i rarely play there anymore -
Anyone else find it funny that the very mechanism used to track down MAs and superusers - i.e. using sharkscope, OPR, PT stats to ID inconsistencies - is rendered useless on Cake's site with this name change policy? No one else sees this as a reason not to play on the site?
-
Actually - this would be a very good reason to play on Cake. If nobody knows who you are - then MA'ing is virtually worthless. Plus - nobody would know my playing style or results until they actually sat with and played with me.

perfect name to do it under too i think.
no1 would suspect a mexican DAD doing this, im serious. -
how would this make multi accounting worthless?
-
Maybe they were not playing on Cake. They have a lot of sister sites they could of been playing on. Like Doles, Players only, Sportsbook, Third bullet, Pokerhost, etc
-
This smells funny...

Why do people play here? STOP THE INSANITY!!
