  1. I'm on painkillers for the next few weeks and was curious if anyone has ever played poker while on vicodin? I'm not sure if it'll be a good thing or a bad thing and was hoping to get some experience before I tested things out. I figure I'd play tighter and be calmer because of the drugs but my awareness might be lowered.

    Thoughts?

  2. people have extremely diferent reactions to vicodin..i say take it and see how u feel and if u think ur ok to play...play...standard
  3. take it and see if u can play, if not, try different drugs and alcohol until u get a mix that either allows u to play or pass out so u dont play bad
  4. Hmm...funny. I think this thread may help you.

  5. if u aint playin faded u playiin at a disadvantage
  6. hmm i think u should try it out at lower than ur normal stakes at first and if it goes well go ahead and play ur normal stuff but if it doesnt maybe take a break from poker or just play lower stuff.

  7. Just take them as prescribed, and you should be fine. They do tend to make you sleepy when your sitting so dont play tired, and make sure you dont get hooked. They are SUPER addicting...

  8. wein, are you a regular smoker? im thinking you are, but its easy to confuse who smokes/doesnt(oh yeah i mean weed of course not cigs)... if so, just pop a little vic, smoke a tiny bit, and usually im nice and relaxed, kind of focused on the games when im on a pill. i love playing poker on painkillers, but rarely ever take them, and when i do, i usually choose something more socially interactive... but its definitely awesome playing slightly buzzed...
if you dont smoke regularly, i would do what others are saying... start out a little lower/tighter than normal, and comfortably work your way into your game when youre sure you can. the only reason i say if you smoke/dont regularly, is because if you do, youre used to playing in an altered state of mind ya know. good luck man.
  9. I actually have found I play much better on a few pks, NOT A BUNCH. One or two of the 5mg vicodin actually helps me be patient and doesn't seem to hinder my judgement. My best month ever was when I had a steady supply of them, not that it was an outstanding month by some standards but I raked in about 26k. However, long term, very very addicting. Do not use these as a standard way to improve your game. Certainly don't be afraid to play while using them, but do not take more than prescribed, do not drink while taking them, and certainly do not plan on using them for any extended period of time. Very bad things on the end of that road.

  10. i play very patient on pain killers, dont really notice any drop in awareness,
  11. Snorting painkillers > Eating them
  12. dig, I stopped smoking at the beginning of the WSOP and found myself to have a much more clear mind.

Also, I'm an idiot for not using the search feature. Ban me immediately.

  13. personally pain meds make me more relaxed and able to concentrate. I used to eat them in school and crush class disussion/tests.

Don't eat too many of them though. Took a math test once and got up to turn my test in at the end of the period and almost fell out of my chair.. Came back the next day normal to finish it and couldn't understand anything I had written the previous day.
  14. Had a root canal done a few months ago and was given vicodin for pain. I couldn't play on it. The stuff just makes me sleepy. If I were playing a few SNG's when I took it I would have been fine for the remainder of the games I entered but within about 45-60 minutes of taking it I was too sluggish to be on my game. Granted I still played but it was a mistake as I just wasn't with it for the rest of the time while I was on it.
  15. WARNING: Do not combine with large quantities of Tommy Bahama Rum, Coca Cola and Shorthanded Pot Limit Omaha = Broke............

not that i would do that..........

    anymore...........

    at all..............
  16. If anyone reads that other thread about oxy, please be aware that it is basically the same as synthetic herion like Action Jeff said. It really came on strong at Berkeley in about 1999, or 2000 before anyone really knew what it was, all we knew was that it was better than morphine. I tried a small amount a few times and I liked it, but it was very strong and I knew i shouldn't be doing it. Basically a lot of people got hooked on it and I am very sadden to have to say that I knew 2 people who died directly from an overdose of oxy and a third where we feel that it was a contributing factor. I was very close with one of these people (a close fraternity brother and the most well liked person that I have ever know, who had 600 people attend his funeral, RIP) and knew the other 2 pretty well.
They were all normal, rational people before getting hooked on oxy. These guys were not like the 15 year old kids who you hear about who took like 160 milligrams (2 of those big pills) their first time because they didn't know what they were taking, these were regular users, who led somewhat functioning lives that had fooled themselves into thinking that they would be O.K. Please don't be fooled into thinking that Oxy is not that harmless because it is a prescription drug, it is one of the most harmful drugs imaginable. It was invented for people who have been in pain for a long time and have become immune to morphine and need something stronger.

  17. I have no comment on poker as I prefer to play with some sort of buzz going, but..

My best friend died a few months ago.. He was a clean-cut kid (well 34 years old, not a kid, but we are all kids when together), but found out he had MS about 10 years ago. About 4-5 years ago, he became addicted to pain killers, and for reasons I will never understand, became addicted to Heroin after they took him off painkillers. I have done the research, and many people have fallen into a similar trap.. As soon as I and his wife knew what was going on, we got him help.. He was good for about 2 years, only relapsing one time, but relapsed again in late June and unfortunately now is no longer with us :( :( (maybe he is spiritually).. I am sure this will not happen to you, as the stuff he was on that when it was cold-turkey removed from him to lead him to H was stronger than vicadin, but please when you are off the pain pills, don't try to seek them out and get addicted.. Its not like smoking weed where you can say it won't lead to other things.. I know everyone is different, but wanted to share this story.. I think of Matt everyday, and hope a message like this will cause someone to think twice about pain pills... I do not judge what other people do, and don't see anything wrong with taking vicadin for medical or even recreational reasons per se', but wanted to share the downsides from experimenting or not looking out for addiciton..

Anyway, I know this isn't appropriate for a poker conversation, and maybe its theraputic for me to write about it from time to time.. Admins, remove this post if its completely inappropriate, and group try not to come down on me about posting about this as I am still sensitive about this topic in general many months later...

    Peace all, Jaxon
  18. OC is a very different level of opiate than vicodin, or percocet even.....

In all honesty, I play my best poker by far when I am on percocet. I had a script for a while and I don't know if I was just on a heater or what, but it helps my game...also weed and poker are a great pair
  19. Valium, FTW!
  20. you mean the 500mg vics.i heart vicodin
