Dont know if this matters, or if its worth discussion, but looking at his stats on OPR, I notice a difference between him and top players like Annette, Imp, Menlo, SCT, etc.
If you look at his Late Middle (LM) percentage (the time where everyone is at least approaching the bubble), he busts out far less than top players. Its as if he playing this time a little tighter (if you can believe that) than others while people like Menlo etc. are attempting to abuse people to get chips (and they would obviously bust at this stage more often in their attempt because theyre not scared to make the attempt). If this is the case, I would think it would factor into play against him at this stage.
Could be that he just has an incredible run at this stage of the tournament, and although hes abusing people at this stage, hes not actually busting as often as he should. -
I'd probably bet on the turn when the diamond hits.
-
He has some articles out there where he talks about his play at certain stages. He talks about the TEMPO of the tournament and how he can feel it changing gears. He simply adjusts to the different Tempo's of the game and who he thinks he can take advantage of. I know he makes some bad plays, but reading his Blogs that he makes every once in a while, he does have a madness to how he plays. He probably does adjust and plays a tighter style at this level...
-
Where is this blog you speak of?
-
Can you link me to his blog?
-
i would like to know of this blog you speak of also!
-
u guys are crazy...he doesnt adjust his game much around the bubble...the "tighter" play u say he has around the bubble is def. not true....take a look at how often he gets knocked out very early....no think about the fact that if he gets past the very early stage...how big is his chip stack? its not that he plays tighter around the bubble to make the money...its that he has a mountain of chips so its hard to knock him out if he has 3x what every1 else has......
-
Check call the turn and shove on any scare card on the river
-
he doesnt have a blog, I asked him at the table and he said he didnt have time for that shit...
-
You're really drawing to three 8's, so semi-bluff the river if you don't hit, it's your call. If you hit though, I can assure you that he thinks A-high is good, and will call at least half the pot. Pre-flop is standard though.
-
^^^^ I agree 100%. It's hard to represent a made hand after you've checked the turn. Unless your opponent hit runner runner runner runner straight flush I think your pair of fours are good.
-
it's because by the LM stage he has either built up a monster stack or is already out. he does not adjust his game at that time
-
Vietcong leading the 109r at the first break, i've watching him so far and he's playing very well (i know only one tourney only one hour). Also, he seems like a decent enough guy he reads all these posts about him and he says it makes him laugh. He talks to the rail which is always a bonus. Im not ready to make an opinion of him as a player but i admire his results.
-
why the fuck are there fifteen threads about this donk every day?
-
shit, id laugh too if i had no clue what i was doing, and CRUSHING ppl who thought they knew what was going on
...laugh all the way to el banco -
Pretty simple, really. He's doing the opposite of what's currently considered "good poker" and counts on people who play good poker to make correct decisions. Aggression around the bubble is conventional wisdom; that's why he's less aggressive. We'll see how long he gets away with it.
-
I still don't like the limp with 77 then raising the flop. Playing a hand like this, out of position, by the way, is poor poker.
Check call raise fold. king of spades, check, check, bet, fold. -
i fold pre, it's just one of those hands that is destined to give you problems post-flop. i think i learned that from an inissint video :)
-
Okay, thats it. Ive been reading these posts on and off for a while, and have been intermittently keeping an eye on him while he plays. I opened the 100$R table today to see him leading in 1st place. Good enough. I get lost in my game, when i come back, I see him busting with 87 on the bubble vs JJ in the sb. Ok, fine, whatever, he has a low M and thats a good play against just the blinds. So I look through the hand history to see what happened and discover this:

Now I know what everone's talking about. -
There is one reason why there are so many VietCong threads every day. His style pisses off a lot of players. And everyone enjoys seeing people pissed off - especially when the people who are getting pissed off are the same people who piss off the average poker player with their condescending attitudes.
-
yes i saw him when still in the rebuy period call 2 other allin with suited connectors...and win. The situation here, he is either a coin flip or crushed, but with likely 2 live cards and twice the other blokes stack. This play reminds me so much of free rolls its not funny, and maybe thats his style, all tournies to him ARE free rolls.
-
yea snap callin 78 bbs w q hi and no antes is def smart, i mean the other guy def isnt ahead of Q hi, hes gotta be bluffing, hes jsut gotta...
-
I have noticed something, cong will gamble (again like a play chip or free roll game) but hardly ever bluffs at the river or turn or never gets caught doing this. I read in gordons little green book about a guy called BOW that would call most flops and go all in if he had a draw, now this was cash where you could reload but if you put tournies into the context of a free roll then its about the same. If you call he might suck out, or bust, he dont seem to care but if you fold or he sucks out then he has a huge stack, making the next go round even harder for everybody else.
