  1. So i'm watching the FOX sitcom "The War At Home" last night and the youngest son of the family applies for a credit card in his fathers name and uses the money to start playing online poker. The dad receives the statement in the mail and when he questions the son finds out that he's up 6k so instead of punishing him he tells him their going to split the money.

At the end of the episode the dad ends up needing money to pay his DUI fine and his son tells him he lost his whole bankroll on one hand. He says, "I had a straight flush dad, what was I gonna do".

Now I know this is just a stupid sitcom. But what was this kid doing betting like 8k on one hand and second of all did the writers not know that the only hand that could beat his hand was a royal? He'd basically have to lose a king high straight flush to an ace high royal. But yet he made no mention of being beat by a royal flush which you would think with the rarity of those happening that he'd mention it.

Anyway, I just thought it was poor writing on the part of the sitcom staff. And yes I am a dork.
  2. Doesn't necessarily have to be the royal. The board could be three or four cards in a row and he could have the low end of it. Ex: board has 6-7-8 suited and 4-5 loses to 9-10.
  3. the reason i didnt think he meant another straight flush is because he said "I had a straight flush, what was I gonna do" You'd think if it was what you were describing he'd say, "my straight flush got beat by a bigger one"
