As many of you now know, Congress has passed internet gambling legislation after attaching it to the Safe Port Act. PocketFives.com has been working diligently to ascertain all the details possible about the implications of the legislation and, in response, we are having a special Podcast this week dedicated to educating and informing everyone about how this bill will affect them directly and indirectly.
This week's Podcast (airdate: Thursday, October 5th) will feature interviews with rerpesentatives from NROG (National Right for Online Gaming, www.nrog.org) and the PPA (Poker Players Alliance, www.pokerplayersalliance.org).
We will also be joined by Professor Nelson Rose (www.gamblingandthelaw.com) for an in-depth analysis of what the legislation attached to the Port Security Bill means in the short and long term for Online gaming. For those that are interested in the exact wording of the legislation that was approved by Congress late Friday, we are planning to relay this to our listeners in an objective manner, allowing you to formulate your own opinion and/or interpretation of its precise meaning.
There is a lot of confusion and misinformation in the Online Poker community at this time. Our aim on this week's show will be to provide clarity and analysis to our listeners, while at the same time outlining the actions we, as an entire community, should be taking to protect our right to play Online Poker.
* Online Poker players Marc Freund (legggggggggy) and Justin Truesdell (truesyalose) were previously scheduled to appear on this week's show. Due to the unexpected events that occurred Friday, and to these events becoming the main focus in the Online Poker community at this time, we have decided to postpone our interviews with Marc and Justin until a later date. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Professor Rose,
I assume this legislation will be challenged in the Courts. What are the chances of injunctive relief while those challenges are heard? By the way, I took your course "Gambling and the Law" at Whittier Law School and it was great! Rincover@sbcglobal.net. -
I have a question for the PPA and NROG representatives: At what point would you believe that a united, aggressive offense (such as a monetary boycotting), be in order?
This is my rationale using poker as an analogy, Frist is the aggressive player and the rest of us, players, PPA and NROG are Calling and Folding (writing letters, making phone calls, then waiting for the next result). Frist is pushing, shoving, amassing chips and advancing while the rest of us are being blinded off or otherwise shortstacked...waiting on the big PP. I say we reraise or AI...damn the cards.
The two bottomline facts are that: 1) the law to be signed is hypocritical and; 2) poker isn't specifically included or excluded.
I personally think the intent of this law is bigger than preventing U.S. citizens from gambling online. However, if that is true, learning the root of the cause is helpful but may not be significant enough to warrant more waiting from a poker playing standpoint.
If there is room in this law for a "clear" exception to be made for poker playing, then now is the time for players to do something that "demands" that exception, rather than simply asking or hoping for it.
In order to be heard and to align corporate strength I think we should agree on a 30-, 60- or 90-day boycott in three areas: 1) b/m casinos; 2) televised poker and 3) something that reaches beyond poker but is a corporate giant, preferably with an internet presence.
Thanks in advance for addressing this.
Willo
I'm sure my reraise, AI would be taken more seriously if I were a triple-crowner or the like, but oh well :)
