    I'd like the play a bit more if the 5 was red (putting a flush draw on the board), but mainly I did this because I was pretty sure he had a pretty big overpair, and anyone basically has to call there with an overpair, as it really looks like I most likely have 87s, 54s, or a lower overpair.

    If I just call or raise less, it may send off alarm bells. Worse, a scare card may come on the turn (like an A or K) that may lead the other guy to not be willing to get all of his chips in on this hand.

    Chances are if he has a high pocket pair I still get the money in anyway, but this play really helps to maximize that possibility, by making my hand look as weak as possible.

    yeah, nh. I wasn't paying much attention at the time so I basically instacalled. If I realized it was you I'd probably fold 99-TT or something in that spot. Your preflop call is pretty marginal btw, implied odds are not really there.

    An alternative line to consider is c/c flop, check turn, c/r river.

    Yea i wasnt really liking the preflop call either......although with the limper probably makes it break even play.

    I don't think its that weird really. the guy raised about 4.5X the bb I think, so it was kind of obv he had a pp. And with that flop, theres no way hes folding, esp after betting $280 on the flop.

    It was effective, but wasnt exactly wierd.

    Well if he re-raised pre flop the hand might be over right there once busto soon re-pops. Calling only 140 when your stack is 3000 is a very small % of ur stack. Flopping a set 1/8 times and 90% of the time ur getting paid off with the overpair. I still don't like the all - in raise on the flop with the board paired its easier for QQ to get away from that than u think, i know I have got away from QQ on a similar flop when the first person went all in, turned over a boat etc. So u did play it different but playing it this way. Ur more likely to get called all in on the turn than on the flop imo, once more money is in the pot.

    a lead out is pretty effective if you put him on a big pair.... either way, nice hand/nice play.
