Hello fellow Pocketfivers. With therequest of some of my friends and others and to give back to the poker community I havedecided to make a well. To those that dont know who I am, my name is Francis, I'm 22 years old, bornand raised in upstate New York. I play primarily on Full Tilt and my screennames are The Lab Rat on FTP, The Lag Rat on stars. Unlike the other greatplayers that have made a well in the past I play primarily mid to high-midstakes. This well is dedicated more so towards the mid stakes players butanyone feel free to read and ask me any questions you have. Since Im not aswell known as the other, great players that have made Wells, Im going to makea more detailed story of poker career. Hope you enjoy.
<span> </span>Thefirst time I ever played poker was when I was about 18 played with some of mygood friends from High School right before I went off to college. I somehowmanaged to win 2 out of the 3 $5 games that we played without knowing how toplay. Since then I attended the University of Albany (alumni of Hevad Khan andJamie Gold) where I went to study Accounting, starting in Fall of 2006. There Imet some friends in my dorm building that were also interested in poker and weused to play $5/$10 freezeouts in the study rooms up to 3 or 4 nights aweek.<span> </span>I was such a tight noob back thenand slowly kept on getting better and better. At that time I also met one of mybest friends today, John, aka Elitewrestla who developed his game along with me. Then sophomorecame around played a little bit of poker but was mainly focusing on school andat that time I started to get into online poker and I would play the play moneysngs in some of my free time and I really liked it. I remember I once was aplay money baller that had 2.5 million play chips. I just started playing aTight Aggressive style and would improve based on experience.<span> </span>
Then onto summer/ 2008 and Junioryear at the University of Albany fall of 2008 is when I really started gettinginto poker. I started up primarily with low stake sngs and would play the $3-$26 90 man Kos on FTP a lot to build my bankroll. I always had terrible bankroll management and wouldneed to redeposit or get a small loan from a friend on occasion. But I justkept on playing and working on my game. One of my favorite poker memories that upstarted me with online poker happened 3 days before I went back to College. Iwas at a friends house planning to chill with a few buddies before I went backto College. We all drank a little bit and I decided to invest my last $15 anddecided to play the Midnight Madness. Back then I didnt have a lot of moneybut always had enough to make it by. So long story short I somehow managed toship the Midnight Madness six hours later that for $3500. This was such a great experiencefor me because I hadnt nearly made any kind of money like us this my life. Soonce arriving to college Junior year, I would frequently go with a couple offriends up to turningstone primarily with my good buddy Elitewrestla and wedplay $1/$2 cash and some of their low stakes mtts.<span> </span>To those of you that dont know aboutTurningstone, its a casino in upstate NY near Syracuse, 1 hour 30 minutes awayfrom my college. Turningstone allows people 18 and over to play poker unlikemost casinos because it is on an Indian Resort. This was when I started to gethooked onto poker and would started thinking of poker all the time. My gradesup to this point were always pretty good, I was a B plus student but thingschanged that year.
In the fall of 2008 I met my firstreal online poker player, ManchVegasPwn. Id see him a lot in the 90 mans and satellitesthat Id play and asked him for his screen name. He is also a tight player (maybetoo tight) like me and we played a similar style. I remember I used to watchhim deep in mtts and used to give him my problem hand histories and I learnedsooooo much from him. He plugged a lot of my leaks like raise/folding with 10bbs and advice on what hands to open in certain spots and push/fold game etc. Heis arguably my most helpful player in my development into what I am today andcouldnt thank him enough for helping me out. So that fall I kept playing lowstake mtts/ mid stake mtts trying to build up a bankroll. One of my biggestbreakthroughs happened in December of 2008. I was on a little upswing anddecided to try and satellite into the Sunday Brawl doing a winner takes all SNG.I managed to win the satty and was poised to play the brawl for first time everand my 2nd Sunday Major ( Elitewrestla staked me in 750k gtd a monthprior to this).<span> </span>This mtt was such a newexperience to me with a tough field. I got off to a good start and just rolledfrom there. I was very nervous throughout the whole mtt. I remember when Igot into the money, I knocked out one of my favorite players, Neonpils when my QQ held tohis AQ.<span> </span>Anyways I started getting deeperand deeper below avg stack for most of the way and next thing I know Im at theFinal Table of my 1st Sunday Brawl playing for money that seemedsurreal to me. Unfortunately I was card dead at the final table and finished in8th place. But I won $6850(including my 6 Kos!) and I gained so muchfrom this experience and gained a lot of confidence in my game. <span> </span>Also it gave me a real bankroll to play with. (Ihave yet to cash in this stinking tournament since then, probably playing it2/3rd of Sundays in 2009) And I just took off from there.
Since then I got more and morehooked on poker<span> </span>and in the middle ofJunior year spring semester, last spring I decided to leave the University tobe with my ailing Grandfather at that time and to take time off from schoolbecause my poor grades that semester. I was making a steady living by playingonline mtts at the time too. <span> </span>So I stayedat home with plans to go back to Albany during the summer and fall. During thistime beginning I met a lot of online regs and got their screen names for aim. This is also when I started to rail a lot of mtts and watch and learn from other great players. Ilearned about different styles of play from these guys and they helped me developinto a better player. A few names of the players that helped me the most wereGrindtherail, Cuteiswhatiaim4, Miguel Santiago, and Big Huni, and The Mini Jew.But there are sooo many more to name. Especially with the help of Grindtherailand Big Huni they showed me how to become more aggressive and different stylesthat are successful and they really opened up my play. I'd also watch players like Moorman, AJK, Gboro, USCPhildo and studied the hands they showed down and learned a lot by doing this.
So to stop boring some of you Illbrief up my summer 2009- winter 2009. I decided to not go back to the University of Albany at least for now. Have plans of maybe going back. I had a rough end of the summer and had a bigdownswing and with the advice of pocketfives legend, Awesomeo aka Shrubbery Idecided to try to get backed.<span> </span>So wasfortunate enough to find a great backer in September and Ive proceededto have my four most profitable months of poker since. And now Im at where Im at today a successful mid/high stakes player.
I just want to thank all my friendsthat helped me (too many to name) get to where Im at today, thank thepocketfives community. And also on a side note want to apologize to anyone Iveever berated in the chat. Ill answer any questions just as long as theyre <span>appropriate.</span> Hope you enjoyed -
In before: What do you think of Andresoprano's game?
-
How do you put up so much volume and still maintain sanity?
-
what would u suggest i could do to improve my game?
-
Not really a question Lab...My first big cash was in a tourney with you and Huni...You took first, I took second, and Huni took third...I went on to take second in the 35,000 guarantee two weeks later...due to bills and such, I had to withdraw most of the winnings...I can't seem to recapture the same thunder that I had back then and I know confidence is an issue...What do you tell yourself during downswings to keep it all in perspective?...and fwiw I only play 4 tables at a time max so that I can pay attention to player tendencies as I use no software...You, Huni, and JDSmith09 are probably the only reason I reload anymore....sigh...thx in advance bro and keep crushin...
-
Damn it! But what do you think of Andresoprano's game?
Question: Is your game different in the MS-tournaments than in the HS-stakes tournaments? -

do you like gladiator movies?
-
Winning at small stakes to build a roll is so difficult with the size of the field and the level of the players, how is it best to move up so you can have a better idea that opponents have at least knowledge of how the game is played and won't show any two when they feel like it because "it's only $2 bro"?
Besides Ft'ing the sunday brawl... -
What sauce for your tenders sir? ..... Ketchup, Ranch, BBQ or Honey Mustard?
Rank these 3 favorite foods in order from most favorite to least favorite ... Chicken Tenders, Chicken Tenders and Chicken Tenders. -

-
