this may have been covered already, but i'll ask for my specific situation. I've been a lower limit grinder since about 2004 and have done relatively well. I have an offer from someone who might be interested in backing me. What sort of terms should I pursue/what sort of deal should I propose? I've been looking to move up now for a while and this might be a good opportunity, but i want to make sure the deal is fair to both parties. Neither I nor my potential backer have any real experience in this type of venture, so feel free to speak to me like I'm just barely smarter than a fifth-grader.

1) I generally avoid staking cash players. I mainly just stake mtt guys because thats my specialty and I can make more correct decisions when it comes to picking out players. We do let some of our guys play mid stakes cash under their backing deal tho.

2) -anderson silva
- kind of tough I think bj penn may have actually have the best but he really uses it so I would go with Damien Maia with an honerable mention to Aoki
- if we are talking pound for pound my top 5 are 1. Fedor 2. GSP 3. Anderson Silva 4. bj 5. miguel torres
- my fav fighters are gsp, wandy, machida, okami and arlovski.

I only bet mma and on myself too. I agree with your top 5 but Anderson Silva is higher then GSP for sure theres a reason why GSP doesn't want to step up in weight he wants no part of that man,where anderson will fight any 205 guy out there.

Bj isn't even close to the best bjj guy in mma and hes my favorite fighter, a guy by the name of Ronaldo de souza is by far the best, Damien Maia is up there i think Hazelett is pretty nasty too.

I disagree completely with your Rashad/Forrest write up. Rashad aint shit thats for sure but this is a bad matchup for Forrest. Yes Forrest is going to be bigger but Rashad won the ultimate fighter HW division so hes use to fighting bigger guys. Forrest has never fought a NCAA wrestler type fighter, Rashad will be able to take him down and hold him down, forrest's bjj isn't good enough to submit rashad from his back. If Forrest gets him on his back he will be able to get back to the feet no problem. Rashad's training partner already beat Forrest(jardine) so he will have a solid game plan. Id say Forrest's stand up is better but not by much he is wild and reckless at times and could pay for it like chuck did, but i see more takedowns and ground and pound to win rounds for Rashad to win by decision or by tko.

I dont bet parlays and whichever casino is hosting the event is usually the only one that you can bet all the fights on

I dont know what you are talking about when you say gsp wants no part of anderson? GSP has stated in multiple interviews he would be up for moving up in weight class and fighting anderson and his eventual goal is to do that. The reason gsp hasnt done that is because ww is about 500x deeper than mw. Gsp has beaten more top 10 fighters than anyone else in the world and if he hadnt had the complete fluke ko loss to serra he would rank #1 even above fedor for me just for the fact that his level of competition is easily #1.

Andersons best wins franklin 2x (#2 mw), Hendo (hard to give him definiteive rank since he constantly switched between mw and lhw but def top 3) then nate marquardt who was top 10 when they fought. After that what does he have? Patick cote (top 20 mw def not top 10), james irvin? (like top 30 lhw nowhere close to top 10), Travis lutter ( top 30 mw nowhere near top 10) chris leben ( just loll). Ok lets look at gsps wins. Hughes 2x ( the #1 ww of all time before gsp showed up). Jon fitch ( clear #2 ww when they fought), koscheck (top 5 ww when they fought), Bj Penn (the #1 lw of all time and former ww champ), Sean sherk ( top 10 ww when they fougth), frank trigg (top 3 ww when they fought, he had just come off a loss in a title shot by hughes and if he had beat gsp he was expected to get a rematch quickly), karo (possibly not top 10 when they fought but immediately after his loss to gsp goes on a 5 fight win streak and easily was top 10), Jason miller ( a 185er now who is probably top 15 mw currently, when he fought gsp he was on a 5 fight win streak after he lost he went on another 5 fight win streak beating robbie lawler). I mean gsp is a WW and hes beaten a MW better than half of andersons best wins. Silva is an amazing fighter but hes way way over hyped for the level of competition hes fought.

And really bj isant even close to the best bjj guy in mma? He earned his black belt in 2 years the fastest for any american in history. He was the first ever non brazilian to win the mundails (one of the biggest bjj tournaments in the world) and bj wasnt even a black belt when he did it. Just because bj chooses to use his standup more than use his bjj just to dominate and control guys on the ground doesnt mean he cant do all the crazy shit you see hazelett and others pulling off if he wanted to.

I really disagree than rashad is going to take forrest down at will. I mean rashad wasnt exactly holding bisping down their entire fight and forrest tdd is going to be better than bispings. They dont pay enough attention. They play too many tables so they are forced to auto pilot many of their tournaments. But even though its the clear #1 leak its one that isant something most guys should avoid because more tables will generally = more money as long as your play doesnt drop off too badly.

First of all I would like to thank you for taking time out of your day for doing this, this is definetly the best post ever on p5s. Earlier in the thread you and others said that your attitude towards the game is very good in terms of dealing with beats, downswings, and other facets of the game that cause so many ppl to quit poker. I think Ive got a decent attitude towards all the "bs" that comes with the game, but sometimes Ill get knocked out of tournament and suddenly get a lack of motivation in my other tournies. If I make a deep run in one tourney then get coolered out tournament, Ill be so immediatly bitter I find myself not caring and muttering about how stupid this game can be. Eventually I shake it off, but I find it difficult to play my best immediatley after this happens. My question is: how do you stay motivated all the time (especially when you are financial stable and most first place finishes wont be even close to life changing money)??

Last time i was in Vegas around Wsop time i found that the Venetian does parlays on all fights but the raise the lines after each bet u do i didn't like that shit. 1 $500 parlay dudes lines from -125 jump to -140 if u want to do another parlay in a minute. Wasn't sure if that was the only one who did parlays or not i guess so from how it sounds to you.

GSP WINS: Matt Hughes #1 ww is a joke it just shows u what cardio and wrestling could do back in the day. Fitch solid win but he's not #2 at 170 not today or ever. Koscheck #5 not today maybe in the future this is the same guy who was a wet blanket a year ago,still needs alot of work. Bj penn i wouldn't really call that a win but we will see soon enough. Sherk is a matt hughes to me who was fighting at a weight that he isn't soppost to be at. Frank Trigg solid win it took him 5 years but he finally has learned to defend the rear naked choke. Mayhem Miller looked like skelator when they fought at 170 and he took an asswhippin for all 3 rounds, his and Robbie's fight was the best fight ive ever seen live use to live in Hawaii for 6 years. Mayhem stand up still sucks to this day but he's super tuff. Kara great win very well rounded fighter.

Bj is great i know his credentials he won all these years ago,people only get better throughout the years his take down defense is so good that he really never gives us the chance to see how sic he is. Anderson just doesn't win he destroys his opponent when was the last time he went to decision? He makes a very very good fighter like Rich Franklin look like a rookie fighter he has 3 losses ever 2 to Anderson and one to a Machida who nobody matches up well against. Dan Henderson is one of the best fighters in the world who has great wins against 205 guys and he beat him at 185. Those 2 right there are better then anything GSP has ever faced and he would definitly have his hands full with them 2 if he decides to jump to 185. Marquardt is very good too the rest where cans for sure.

I never said the TUF heavyweights were good i just said he's fought guys who weighed more then him before so this is nothing new. I find it hard to belive if Rashad slips and falls in a round like Rampage did he wont be able to get up for 5 minutes and pray for the round to end like rampage did against Forrest.
