Oh I misread your question at first haha
Umm I would say your biggest leak probably is fancy play syndrome. I think there are some spots where a more straightforward play/line would be more effective and you end up costing yourself chips by trying to do something creative. But I dont know your game 100% so could be off on it a bit thats just the impression I have. -
Hey mig, thanks for doing this. I hope to someday be baller enough to do one of these.
I've noticed you have said you like Erick Lindgren's game. I like his game as well and his book from the WPT series, Making the Final Table, really helped me put together a solid style at a time where I was experimenting switching from a TAG style to a more LAG style and had gotten a little too LAG. Anyways, what do you like about his game?
I'll throw a strategy question at you too. When I'm between 10 and 20 BBs, I'm normally not open-raising pre unless it's a hand I feel comfortable going all the way with, i.e. not folding to a 3-bet/shove. It's known for the most part as spew to be raise/folding on a stack that size however I've seen people say that there are times where it's ok. IYO, is there an ok time to be raise/folding on a 10-20 BB stack and if so what types of situations would those be?
Thanks again. -
1- do you smoke weed? if so do you do it while playin live and online?
2- what kind of car do you drive?
3- do you invest?
4- whats the biggest card you have ever hit in your poker career?
5- whats the worst beat in your poker career?
6- how many girls had you slept with before the braclet?/ how many girls have you slept with after the braclet? -
Reread that mig. I think he wanted you to tell him what his biggest leak is.
-
We basically just treat it as 2 separate backing deals. So we give separate amounts of money for each and have different spreadsheets to keep track of their totals for each. Quick example if a guy is 15k in makeup online and 50k in makeup live and he wins an online tournament for 100k. Then his new balances would be +85k online and -50k live. He could then cash out and take 50% (or whatever % he has) of the 85k for himself if he wanted to even though hes still down 50k live. And his balances would then be even online and -50k live.
-
Overall Erik has a very solid abc game that doesnt have a lot of leaks. But along with that hes very good at changing gears and adapting he can play a tight straightforward game for 5 hours then if he sees a good opportunity completely change and run some big bluffs. Basically adaptability is the most important thing I look for when trying to figure out just how good someone is and he adapts better than almost any live pro.

I definitely think there are times when you should raise fold 10-20bbs. In the past you could raise fold 10-20bb stacks all the time because people restole less often so anytime they did 3bet you they pretty much always had a monster. Anymore you have to be a lot more careful opening that sized stack because people resteal so much that you will be giving away chips too often. But there are still spots where if you get a good read on a player that hes tight and wont 3bet you without a hand you can raise/fold. -
Sorry I didn't phrase my question correctly. I know how it works in that aspect. I was wondering as to WHY it is done like that? If a player is backed online and live and their makeup is combined, doesn't that benefit the backer and hurt the player? That's more of what I was trying to ask for an explanation of. Could you give some insight into this please?

2- 2007 corvette
3- I own a couple houses but havent really invested too much I have to keep a large amount of money liquid for the backing.
4- hmm not really sure
5- probably in one of the first live tourneys I played I was 3 handed in a bellagio prelim I got it in 66 vs 55 against thewacokid for like 95% of the chips in play. I lost and ended up getting 3rd so was prob like a 150k bad beat but I cant really complain with how my career has gone. -
hm there are guys like ivey/lindgren who I think only back people for live stuff but I cant say for sure. So not sure how many backers out there are specialists but most of the bigger backing groups back in a variety of things.

My question is, is there any backers that just back players for live tournies, or just back players for certain online tournies? -
Yes exactly if the makeup is combined its better for the backer and worse for the player. So in general thats obviously what we prefer but for some players we work out deal where they have it separately. A lot of guys want it separate because you can easily have 1 month live where you lose 50k+ if you had to work that off online it would mean you would likely have no income for a month or longer. So we let some guys have separate deals so they can maintain their monthly income while still playing live.

Cool, thanks. It's funny but your 2 answers kind of tie together in a way. You are basically telling me that it's ok to raise/fold a 10-20bb stack if you are on a nitty table which ties in to adapting. Take what your table/opponents give you basically.

how funny is it to see people stack off for 400bbs with KJ on J hi boards in 10k events and be good? j/k
even though they take diff skill sets...how much more profitable is live/online compared to the other? for :
A) you
B) Your top 5 mtt online players
C) Your top 5 mtt live players
D) generic p5's T100 mtt donk
thx r -
1) What do u think are some of the more common leaks in MS MTT grinders that prevents them from progressing into consistant HS winners?
2) What are some daily things you do to maintain a high level of concentration & focus?
3) What are some things that motivate/inspire you?
4) Seems like you succeed at thatever you put your mind to. After becoming financially secure, what do you see yourself doing in the future.
5) Could I plz have your blessing to dye my hair pumpkin patch orange?
I recently got the mig-cut & am looking to go on a migish-run.
Seems logical.
Thanks for doing this, you are a great player and very unique person!
I hope you have continued 'luck' in your future. -
triple draw 2-7 -really terrible first day it was actually the first time I had ever played triple draw by 2nd and 3rd day I thought I had an ok grasp on it but still below avg

answer either - one of the best, above average, average, below average, or one of the worst. for each.
triple draw 2-7 -
limit holdem -
omaha h/l -
razz -
stud -
stud h/l -
nl holdem -
plo -
i think thats all of em.
also i saw madsen made it deep, how was his game? just curious cuz i hear he doesnt have an online backround and dont see how he can be any good.
limit holdem - above avg
omaha h/l - above avg
razz -above avg
stud -below avg
stud h/l -avg
nl holdem - one of the best
plo -above avg
hm I dont really remember how madsen played during the tourney honestly
I was kind of fortunate in the tournament I dont have nearly the experience in some of the limit games (especially the stud and triple draw games) but I was able to keep myself out of trouble and player tighter in the games I didnt know as well. -
Hey mig,
just wondering when pokernews strategy will be back up? ty your a sicko -
For A B C I would say live just because the buyins are bigger live many of the top players dont put in much volume online so they wont make as much there.

D) I would say possibly its online because they put in a very high volume
In terms of ROI it should be live for everyone simply because live generally has deeper stacks so you will see more hands and in general your ROI increases as the number of hands played in a tournament increases. -
1) I would say #1 they dont adapt very well, they cant make adjustments quick enough. Its something thats hard to learn but the most important ability in mtts is being able to adjust to rapidly changing situations. Players, stack sizes and position are constantly changing so you have to be able to analyze and figure out the best play for every different situation constantly. A lot of guys will be able to develop an ABC game that will make them slight winners but until they learn how to adjust to individual players on the fly it will be hard for them to become big winners.

2) I need to work on this still haha
3) I would say money is probably the biggest motivator but along with that I do like to look at live stats and such compare how much I have cashed for/how many fts I have/etc to other players and try to beat their scores.
4) Hmm I would like to open a business of some type in the future along with I would like to take a couple years off to do nothing but travel but dont really have any plans set up. I am pretty happy with how things are for now.
5) Yes iam tired of the only other ginger poker player being pearljammer -
They keep telling me soon lol so iam not really for sure. They are completely redesigning the site so it should be significantly improved when its back up. I am hoping its within the next couple weeks but cant say 100%.
-
hmm it kind of depends on what they have played because playing 1000 1$ tournaments doesnt mean as much as playing 100 100$ tournaments. So its more of something that has to be judged on from situation to situation.

When you play online, how many tables are optimal for you to be playing at once? Do you find any merit in taking player notes for online MTTs? Do the ever changing game dynamics make notes less relevant? In online MTTs, do you ever give up in slightly +ev spots? Do you ever knowingly put yourself in -ev spots? Reasoning? Any non-standard advice, tips, or bits of wisdom? If not no biggie! GL in the future, keep it going.

boxers or briefs?
-
umm optimally for how well I can play I would say like 2-4. optimal in terms of making money I would say I can play 10-12 pretty well. I think notes are less important in mtts than in cash prob but they are def still very helpful.

And iam in the school where I dont think theres very many +ev spots you should ever pass up. I would need a super deep stacked tourney with a very soft tourney before I did. And I dont really believe taking many -ev spots to get a big stack. Although I think there are spots you could gamble such as to get a really big stack on a bubble you think you can abuse badly, etc. -

Hey man, congrats on your success. I think its really cool of you to respond like this.
My question is:
HYPOTHETICALLY if tomorrow you woke up and all your money was gone, you had zero dollars.... Nobody to stake you, nothing to sell..... You have nothing and no way of getting anything...
Then you log onto your stars(or FT) account and there is an even $500, no fpps.
What would YOU specifically play.
and pls if you can be specific, if its cash games, then what game? and what limits? if its sngs, what type, multi, 9 mans, 6max, turbos? if its multis, which ones? any or guarentee?
Again im interested in what you would do, not with what other people should do.
