  1. OK except from the obvious fact that they take like 1/4 the time to finish can someone explain to me why else they are better. This is obviously coming from a guy that gets PWNED by SnGs but basically a mate of mine made a crap load of profit from 45 mans on FTP so i decided to play a bunch(like 100,150 or so) and i have just been donating. Why would I choose to pay $24 for 1500 chips and 5 minute levels or whatever it is and have a blind off time of like 45 minutes when i could play a double stack $24 tourney with plenty more room to be patient and also achieve a higher ROI(potentially). Please guys give me as many +'s of SnGs as you can and tell me why you prefer them to MTTs.

  2. SNG grinding kills ur soul...MTTs have higher variance
  3. pretty well put above me.

Basically you can just grind out stupid volume in SNGs and they are nothing more really than a number crunch.
  4. Sngs you can play a lot more tables, and almost guarentee a profit over a smaller amount of time.
  5. After a decent amount of volume, good sit and go players can pretty much guess much they are going to make over a week/month, based on playing a certain amount of games, against their ROI%, given they play well.

Of course there are exceptions when you hit an extended run of +ve or -ve varince.

This is not possible to predict in MTTs, as the varince is so much higher and the possible volume much lower
  6. OK yes a rough idea of what you will be earning each month that is true never thought about that.

  7. SNGs are a slow steady to build a BR. less big scores and smaller losing streaks.
  8. ^^^^^ this can be said in 1 word. variance.
  9. agreed. variance FTW.
  10. SNGs take far less time. If your friends call you to do something, you can just stop loading games & be done within an hour. In an MTT, you simply can't do this, and basically have to committ your day to playing.

There's less variance in SNGs. If you're good, you should rarely even have losing months (probably not more than 1 per year). Rakeback for SNGs also helps during those bad runs. SNG players put in more volume, so they earn more in rakeback. Being able to predict your monthly & yearly income more accurately is nice, & less stressful.

As for why you would play a tourney w/ 5 minute levels when you could play a double stack tourney, it's all about the hourly rate. I'd rather play a tournament that lasts 45 minutes w/ a 7% ROI, than a tournament that lasts 2 hours w/ a 10% ROI. ROI isn't everything. In fact, it's probably the most overrated stat there is. Most SNG players don't have very high ROIs, because they play a ton of tables & get high rakeback percentages. That rakeback isn't factored into ROI, but it may be what makes a particular game very profitable. As long as you get the math down in push/fold situations, you will do better off in SNGs than double stack tournaments,

If you're losing on FTP, try out Cake Poker. The level of play there is basically party poker pre gambling bill. I have some good info on my blog about Cake at jhub3000.livejournal.com. Check it out if you want.
  11. OK some fair points. No the $24 45 mans on FTP are very beatable lol they are prob the equivalent to a $10 MTT. Getting more in rakeback is a very valid point i guess but there are also some tourney players who regularly play like 16 tables so that wouldnt be way off what you guys are playing i reckon. OK but playing a SnG which gives bad players a better chance at beating them(i guess thats gotta be correct?) is preferred over playing an MTT where better players have a much greater edge and can exploit poor players alot more easily. Sure ROI is over-rated if you are a sng player as a 5% ROI can be great at certain games.Right well what about the guys that play 180 man turbos i mean just play a tournament surely! The variance will be as high as a 200-300 person MTT id imagine as they are turbos.
