What is the big deal with poker sites not wanting to give a sat winner cash for their win instead of a seat?
The player is winning money from a prize pool. It costs the site NOTHING to credit a player with the CASH that they have won.
Why would it not be the sites policy to give the player his/her winnings in what ever form they want it?
I can understand a site or poker room making you take a seat for your first win in a tourney THEY are providing. Because they get the entry fee from the entry. But if a site is running sats to a tourney they are NOT hosting...WTF do they care?
Why do ALL sites insist on making sat wins so complicated. What is the big deal?
I firmly believe that the first site that says, you won, you don't want to play...FINE, here's your money, will be well on its way to becoming the players choice. -
I really think that it has to do with advertising. The sites want their names on TV. That is why sites like Poker stars actually give their WSOP qualifiers more money if the wear PS gear. They see the Main Event as the single best advertising opportunity all year long. The way they see it is that by giving players the cash they are costing themselves advertising chances.

I wish it were so, but the sites look at entrys into the WSOP as shots at a potential huge marketing payoff if any of their players win the main event. Bodog is psyched to get in 700 players, and have a 10% shot at snagging the winner beforehand.
Too bad they can't let u use the tickets to play in prelim WSOP events, as those too would be good for their marketing. Obv it is the good players who want to win more than one seat, and having a good player rep your company in smaller events that still generate a lot of publicity is a good thing.
Too bad only Full Tilt gets this. -
My guess is the publicity,, that the site gets if one does well. Anything can happen and they know it.
-
^^^ YES 100% why! They are all fighting to have the most players in the event so that they get the most TV time. It is also why stars is offering to let you buy into other games during the series that are scheduled to be televised. They are not offering to any of the non-televised games.
They want the TV audience to see people playing in their shirts and then logging on to their site,,,, thinking "that's going to be me next year"...
Which in the end is good for our bankrolls as new inexperienced players sign on in the dozens! -
I understand the advertising end of it but if I were a site manager I would look at it this way:
People want to play in the WSOP...period. There are going to be 8K in entrys no matter what the sites policies are on payouts.
They have a chance to get REAL players to their site right NOW byhaving a better sat policy....a policy that says.. you won, it's yourmoney, we'll pay you however you want.
Far more players, imo, then having some lucky tool wear their shirt in WSOP.
My basic point is....what is the big deal? It's MORE difficult for the site to sign you up then to just give you the money. -
Yeah, great response...lol....pwned or owned...or whatever.
-
So, let me get this straight. You think WSOP main would have less players if the sites changed their policy?
-
No.
-
Fair enough....
BTW, where do you like to play golf in Vegas. I have a house in Anthem and am a member of the country club.
We'll have to get together and play during WSOP. H0 and Debo definately want to play also.
