How bout some suggestions. What do you guys think I should be doing with my 117 day break before the final table?
-
gamble
congrats -
Relax and learn about your opponents and the game as much as you can.
-
nugs, chilling, and grindage
-
play no poker.
go somewhere like brazil where no one will bother you.
i would guess this be the optimal way for myself to deal with such a long layover which such big money on the line. -
I'd take 300k and bet on myself to win when the odds are most favorable. As long as you don't go out first, it won't seem like a lot of money because the payout is so steep this year.
-
Way to represent P5's! Man u must be living on cloud nine.
I would pm Menlo, Annette, Waco, MattG and see if they would like to all meet up everyday for five hours the next 3 months to talk strategy.
Gl!
Also, F a vacation right now you will have plenty of time after the FT. -
Just keep in mind that you may only have that 900k. Don't go crazy... obviously you got a big roll now but if I were you I'd spend the next month or two learning how to invest at least 500k of that money so you are set for a super early retirement... this may be your biggest/only million-dollar score of your life.
I'd play a bunch of the $10k events during this time... hopefully the other eight players will be in the field and you'll be able to continue playing against them.
Good luck when the time comes around. I'll be rooting for you. -
I wonder what you could get if you auctioned 5% of yourself on ebay? 117 day layover thank you harrahs for the endless possibilities.
-
lol, bodyguard is tempting.
next day after main event i hear story from other guy at the final table. he's already had a death threat... fun :/ -
Use Annette and Charder to broker a deal with a least 2 of the others at final table to go all-in blind on the first hand ...
-
Get an agent to start figuring out how you can market yourself to make some cash. It's all about the branding and may as well let someone else market you instead of worrying about those things yourself. Good luck man.
-
seek advice from the past few main event champs; gold and yang's wins arn't flukes and their results since prove that
-
Take up meditation and watch plenty of highlights from last years final table and please dont become another Philip Helm!
-
This sounds like very good advice. With such a hyped final table figure out the best way to market yourself. I wouldn't play a ton of poker but at the same time I wouldn't go the whole time without playing. Find a happy medium.

I'd probably hire an agent, play a little poker, talk some poker with good players, do some traveling.
Best of luck, i'm rooting for you. -
Whore yourself to the ends of the Earth...
Congrats, though, man...just enjoy. I'd approach it as if i'd just won 900K in a big 10K buyin tourney, and one of the perks is that you got invited back into a freeroll sng where you can win much more:) -
I would call every ex-gf, old boss, teacher, person you didn't like. Just to let them know what you are up to. If you are like me, that alone could take up the 117 days. Congrats man and GL!
-
I would definitely hire a marketing agent fast and try to maximize this window. There may also be some other opportunities, but people need to be able to find you. A good agent will cold call for you. For example, you may be able to get on a late night show. Or maybe some all expense paid trips to appear on some local shows or do a promotion for a casino. IDK, just some ideas.
But come November, and for some unkown reason you don't win, your opportunities will be less.
Good luck. -
Oh, and I would have an attorney review any longterm agreements. I would think you would want an out or at least some renegotiating ability if you do win the ME. I would think some people are going to want to lock you up for a lot less than you will be worth if you win.
Just keep in mind, a lot of people want to hear your story right now. Keep detailed notes, because if you win, you can certainly parlay it into a book. -
good thing about coming from a small town is that every person i knew as a kid has heard about this. so no gloating phone calls are necessary. tempting though...

and ya ya, i do have an agent working on whoring me out. i told him that i want it full nascar style. logos from head to foot. -
Oh and you definitely need to move to Germany and sign up for Intellipoker training. Just make sure you bring the charts with you to the final table.
-
First off Congrats.
I'd consider finding/hiring an expert on body language to review the WSOP episodes that will air and pick up on any potential tells from your opponents and possibly eliminate/reduce any you might have. Never before has this existed for such a potential advantage.
Your game obviously needs no overhaul. Talking strategy coming in based off how people play now may or may not be relevant in November. I imagine most of them will be refining/changing/tweaking their games in the interm.
All the suggestions on marketing yourself are also quite wise imo.
GL and TID!
And buy something nice for you and yours
-
Congrats on making the FT...totally sick! what a feeling that must be, to reach the Final table of the biggest poker game in the world. with that much time, why would you do anything different. i am sure you can still play lots of poker (as you said yourself in the interview), relax some, and get a game plan ready for when you sit down again. you are sitting what 3rd in chips at this time, i can def see you get top 3 (and that's only because as you said you do this for a living, you probably have a lot more experience then the rest/majority of the field). so GL and enjoy the ride.
