  1. I went to the doctor last month because I go through a lot of stress. I know everyone goes through stress to some extent, but I go through a ton of stress. They prescibed me meds, but it was wayyy too strong and kept me from staying awake. The lady prescribed me some other stuff today that should be more effective. It's supposed to help me sleep better which will help with dealing with my stress/emotions during the day.

    I think poker causes most the stress daily in my life, so what does everyone else do to relieve their stress? Obv the ftp stress ball ftw, but what do you find helps the most?

  3. I had/have the same problem. Going through a bad streak really gets to you. What I've done recently is running in the woods. Just running for a while clears your mind from stress (and it also helps to keep in shape after sitting in front of the computer all day every day). I think it actually helps my play as well cause I feel it makes my mind sharper, in addition to relieving the stress.

I hear you man.What i find the biggest thing is becuse your always in your head thinking and computing etc...is i will go for a long walk and look at things to extrovert,get me out of my head,it is important for me to make myself observe my surroundings though and tough at first,as opposed to walking down the street pondering a beat i took or mad that i played a hand wrong.That doesn't help.I consciously will make myself extrovert onto the environment,maybe go to the mall,look at clothes etc,people watch,or go to the bookstore and read a little,as well as a workout,a run i find more effective then weights,though i may throw some weights in......gl

    Point being, i think balance through other activities is really important

  12. Oh hi der sir!

    When I am stressed I like to have some wine and relax outside....just sit and people watch if you have a front porch and chill. When the weather is nice I love to just hang with the puppies and not even go near the cpu. Smoke cigs and get enjoyment out of everything that you have. I can throw tennis balls for my hounds until my arm is sore...

    Another thing that i often do is think about how fortunate I am to even have the ability to play online/have the internet/cars/house/wifey etc. I am by no means a "baller", but some people have it real rough. On more then one occassion I have gone to the streets of wilmington/philly and given homeless people food and money. I dont give a shit what they do with it....but it makes you feel real good with most of the responses you get. Try this....it will make any bad beat meaningless. Sounds superghey, but whatever...Im all for it.

  15. I'm in the Marine Corps so I know a thing or two about stress. As a result, I never stress over poker. reason -- I keep it in perspective. And I smoke the occasional blunt ;-)
  16. Suggestions for you:

    -Excercise (releases endorphins (spelling?) that make you feel good)

    -marijuana (if you don't know ...wow)

    -jerking off

    not necessarily in that order or equally weighted ;-)

Recently ran out of weed after smoking daily for a couple months...So i decided to take a month off before i started up again...well obv just a couple days into withdrawal I went Hulk on my computer (ive been playing poker for years now ad have NEVER broken anything). Meh so now im on a new mac..
    weed def helped..Its been about a week and 1/2 ..and i still can only get like 6 hours a sleep a night and this lack of sleep is def affecting my frustration tolerance....

  18. jaxsonguy.. first off, you are sorta ghey, but we won't tell your wife that. Lockdizzle, I hear ya on the stress factor. I get stressed every night I see you or some other A-hole I know I am better than FTing another tourney.

    In all serious, to relieve my stress I just go out and do something I enjoy. Example, I am running like pure crap this week. So, I am going to a Cubs game tomorrow to relax throw down a couple Old Style Lights. Enjoy the weather. Get me a slump buster.. etc.
     
  19. Self medicating is ok for a temporary fix.

    I would recommend some hobbies that get you of the house such as golfing, fishing, hiking etc.
  20. Thaiboxing, that's what I do, any type of sports would probably work though.
  21. I'm not a big fan of pharmaceutical drugs for stress relief. If you're going to medicate, might as well self-medicate with a beer or a shot or maybe smoke a joint.

    Exercise is great, but you should be exercising regularly anyway, not just as a stress-reliever when you're really torqued out.

    If you're the "worrier" type, you have to start re-training your mind to let go of little nagging issues that you can not improve or change by brooding and running over and over again in your head for hours or days. Especially when you're not playing poker and you're ready for a break, do something completely different and non-competitive. Go fishing, go to a movie, go bowling, go hang out at the mall, some diversion that lets your mind let go of your problems.

    I have a motorcycle and it's one of the best stress-relievers you could ask for. When I'm out on the highway on my bike, I know a peace I can't get sitting on the couch watching a ball game or surfing the net.

    Last, just keep all the things you're thankful for in the forefront of your mind to counteract the emotional spike when something negative happens. Hope that helps. Best of luck, m8.
