Not talking about playing when you're shaken off your game, but you're putting it in well and losing?
It was never a question before because I'd start tilting and I knew it was time to log off. But now I'm not tilting at all, I just shrug my shoulders and move on. On one hand I feel like stopping when I know I'm playing my A-game is -EV. On the other hand....well, I feel like by stopping, I'm giving into the notion of luck/bad luck.
Just curious what others have to say -
I either take a break or switch sites. Its hard to keep getting through thousands of people on stars to bust before the big $$$ time and time again.
Lucky enough for me I can play on party so I switch to that. Not sure about anyone else but it defo helps to take time out then get back but on a different site. Its fresh and just renews ur energy for the game.
When I raised pre deep in a MTT with AA and got put allin on a 842 rainbow board. The guy who moves all in shows QJ, turn Q, river Q lol. That was gutting and forced me to take a break seeing as a few hands before I got allin pre in another MTT with JJ up against 22 and the guy spikes a 2.
Its hard and makes you question playing, but breaks are always good. :) -

Variance is a bitch.
Personally I play in 4 different private leagues. Knowing who you are playing is a big advantage and off sets the longgggggggggg stretch between decent cashes.
Also private games/MTTs are not tracked by OPR, TableRatings or Sharkscope which disguises your skill level. -
i don't believe in OP statement period. If you play well, then you will run well. If you play bad, you will run bad.
or at least that is what I will keep on thinking. -
No offense but how do you know youre playing well? Have you tried taking a step back and evaluating your own game? Maybe go through HHs with people you consider better than you and find some leaks. If you cant find any then id be really surprised. But if they are minimal then id say just keep playing. Variance will swing its ugly head.

Keep on moving, play better, study your game. I just finished watching my HH from the stars 50r I posted this week, and I found at least 6 hands I played poorly. On my defense I have to say that most of the time I have at least 8 tables going, and sometimes I consciously let some hands go, but bottom line is : Even when you win a tourney you can find spots that need some work.
Don't focus only on that suckout or late flip you lost; keep studying, keep working, and keep playing. If you are doing the right things, it has to turn around -
Continue to play well.
Easier said than done, I know.
But, if you are truely playing well, no need to stop playing. -
get really pissed

Play bad run well!

play better?

andres, i have to tell u man, i have more respect for u than almost any1 on the site. not only are u humble about your game, but your helpful and dont act like a dick unlike some other posters. i would just like to say thank u for keeping my faith up that one day, P5s will be a place where u can expect helpful posts, not some trojan character belittling your play.

Thank you, that's exactly the kind of response I was looking for. Also to the other poster that mentioned something similar, definitely I am FAR from perfect. I'm not even close to going through the worst downswing ever (online + live combined), but since I'm trying to turn it from a recreational thing to something more than that, just not playing for a few days/weeks doesn't seem to be an acceptable response in this situation.

try complaining a lot, usually works
-
Heh, it's all the complaining that keeps me going and reminds me how many fish are still out there. Seems like the newest trend is complaining about how unlucky you are when you're going in with the worst hand and lose....
-
Slit wrists, kick dog, cry yourself to sleep, etc.
Then back to grinding. -
sounds like the MLK speach lol

I honestly use to tilt so easy, but after learning to play in my bankroll and accept that you will get sucked out regardless of how "perfect" you play. As long as your a good player overall, play within your bankroll, you will earn money.
I also get what others are saying by play better. I mean honestly, when I say oh gosh that guy blah blah. If you go back, and look at how you played your hand, I'm willing to bet you'll find several instances where you priced the guy in, or made a a bad bet into 6 other players or some other seemingly harmless move that allowed your opponent to get it in bad. It happens to the best players, and the best players realize this I feel and do their best to plug these leaks and take the best lines. JUst look at Dwan against Antonius.. guy got outflopped or rivered 4 or 5 times in a row, lost 250K, but stayed focused, and lost a hell of a lot less than he would have had he just said, fug it. -
I won a heap of Sklansky bucks in the last two weeks, and lost 1.4K.
Try to stay positive !! -
Yea definitely. Perhaps the bigger thing for me is looking at all the hands leading up to it; minimizing lost pots, maximizing won pots = maybe not getting crippled so bad or knocked out on the suckout.
I know it's kinda nice when I can see how bad I'm running and realize "Hey I'm only down x", its a small victory but those are what helps me keep my head straight. -
I say if you aren't tilting after bad beat after bad beat and you have become neutral to your wins and losses its time to step away from the game a bit (say a week or two) and come back with a renewed sense of passion for the game. Your NOT giving in to luck of any kind, you just need to recharge your batteries as they say, clear your head. Sometimes the cards run bad for you, being blah about it, I'm pretty sure your NOT on your "A" game, you may feel that way you are but only time will tell. Give yourself and your bankroll a rest. Take a little "R" and "R".
