The dream of being the last man standing in a battle of 2000 knights. Sometimes you are almost there, just a few tough guys around you and then somebody stabs you right in the back with a 22's-dagger in your nice KK armor. Well... gg Sir Lancelot, maybe next time you shall succeed at the battle of the lands of Pokeria. haha, it's just a perfect hobby for a student... i personally really can relax during my sessions and - no matter how bad i'm running - it's just not as stressfull as university. Of course the money is always nice if u dont have an actual income and dont want to work at mcdonalds.

Ok at this point I'm a semi-successful small stakes 6max cash player (50/100nl). So here's my take.
Likes:
1. The supplemental income every month. I make more playing poker per hour than I do at my regular job, and if I were to search for a part-time 2nd job apart from my full time position, there is absolutely zero chance I'd find a place that paid as well as poker.
2. The seemingly unlimited earnings potential - basically going from broke (me now) to having enough fuck you money to do whatever I want (maybe someday?).
3. The challenge! As much as it sucks to experience suckouts and bad beats, I genuinelly enjoy stacking opponents, especially regs at my level. And to be honest, bad beats do not really bother me THAT much anymore. I think once you realize that you absolutely want your opponents to get their money in bad, you can then begin to accept it as just part of the game. Though bad beats probably are much more difficult to take if you primarily focus on mtts, which I don't. I probably have played 30 so far this year total tbh.
Dislikes:
1. The time commitment. I try to play about 50 hours a month and almost never reach it (I peak at like 40-45hrs). With a full time job it's difficult to spend so much free time doing one other thing, especially after a boring day at work when I'm sort of tired, but I just try to remind myself to treat it like a part-time job, which sort of helps.
2. The game can sometimes become monotonous. It's basically the same thing over and over and over again. If it weren't for the money I probably would quit, or at least play drastically less.
3. The connotations that others seem to have when I tell them about my poker playing, and how I'm able to increase my income, which is especially important for me in the current economic environment. People have basically two reactions: 1. I'm taking advantage of others/will become a degen gambler; or 2. OMG how do I do that too!?!?!? and it's so hard to explain to them how much work it actually is to be just semi-decent, let alone a high stakes soulcrusher. I mean, I've been playing this game since I was 18, so over 5 yrs, and I'm still so obv small time. Plus almost all regular people DO NOT have the mental toughness/self discipline and self recognition to succeed at this game. They just don't. So I hate when people want me to tell them how to make easy money when they have no shot. -
There are many pros and cons but for me the pros still outweigh the cons after 18 months playing full time.
I still wake up looking forward to a long grind each day and dont have any trouble getting the enthusiasm levels up.
It depends the hours your putting in but currently im easily doing over 70 hrs per week and i know 1 thing for sure....
I dont want to be doing that in 4 years , i will always love poker and will always play to some extent but i dont want to be sitting in 4 years playing 70-100 hrs per week , it just aint healthy! -
wp. 4 means nothing to me though. I enjoy working from the carribean though. that can be added

it gives me an excuse to smoke 2 packs of cigs in a 4 hour timeframe where otherwise i dont smoke at all. also gives me something to do when im all wired up on aderol

It's just fun, plain and simple. I'd play for free if that's all I could. I've just always liked to play cards, since I was a kid and played kitchen poker for pocket change with my family. Winning is fun, but losing is not the end of the world.
Try forgetting all the other bullshit and just play the game and enjoy it, no matter what happens. If you can't laugh after getting eliminated from a tournament, QUIT. -
id feel worse for u if u actually played more than 3 a week lol
but ya glenn is some1 who always has a passion for the game regardless of how many huge final tables he bubbles -
Hi,
Playing poker is more than just jumping in a chair and grouping a few cards together and betting money. Learning the foundation of the game is essential. The following offered by 2 Poker Game are very key poker terms to describe all actions that occur during a poker game.
And if you are having a problem about Poker tricks and How to recording top scores.
Poker Rush can help you find what you need.
Yes, Poker Rush, a player can elect to score each hand on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd draw. No discards are allowed after the 3rd draw. The game is played until 2 decks are over or until the allotted game time expires. Poker Rush differs from a well-known casino-style poker games. As opposed to casino-style Video Poker (which is played against the House), Poker Rush is a game of Skill, played against Other Real People competing for Top Score.

As a grown and supposedly mature man with an insane workload, there are four things in my life that can truly give me some respite from my 'real world':
- The company of my wife.
- Time with my two daughters.
- Watching Manchester United play the round ball game.
- Playing the pokers.
-
Many players have lost the love of the game for reasons they neglected to foresee earlier or didn't think it could happen to them. There is a flip side to each situation. However, the amount of love of poker doesn't equal the amount of hatred toward it. There's something wrong here...
To the question...
1) Flopping a set playing live
2) Winning QQ vs. AK allin pre on AxxxQ -
<SPAN>I am the friend that asked Allinblind why do you play Poker.<SPAN> </SPAN>I wanted to know why he could be excited one day then five days later want to quit? (this is a obv brag post because everyone now<SPAN> </SPAN>knows I am a friends with the great Allinblind)<SPAN> </SPAN>We all know adversity, variance and/or running bad in poker is a given.<SPAN> </SPAN>You can look at the best players in the nose bleed levels and see how they can run bad or play bad and lose lifetime bankrolls in a few days.<SPAN> </SPAN>(at least lifetime bankroll for players at my level) <SPAN> </SPAN>I believe the adversity we face in poker is what makes it challenging.<SPAN> </SPAN>If we won every time we got it in good <SPAN> </SPAN>- poker would be boring!<SPAN> </SPAN>Sweating the flop, turn and river are so painful but can be so sweet when our AK catches a king against the pocket queens of the villain.<SPAN> </SPAN>Any tournaments I have won I had to suck out at least once if not more times. <SPAN> </SPAN>Everyone here knows that and I am not breaking any new ground talking about that.<SPAN> </SPAN>So if we all know that poker is tough, variance/adversity, why do we<SPAN> </SPAN>want to quit or complain about variance or complain about how everyone ones plays but we rarely complain about our own play.<SPAN> </SPAN>Simple human nature - It is easier to complain about everyone else's<SPAN> </SPAN>bad play than to do the hard work to improve our play.<SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN> </SPAN>How do I know this, you may ask, because it is what I did <SPAN> </SPAN>at poker and in the real world, and it is what lots of other people do in and out of poker. <SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN>
</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN>How/why did I change my behavior?</SPAN><SPAN>I could not stand to lose at poker.<SPAN> </SPAN>I did lose of course and did nothing about it because I had time and money - call me Ishmael - I was such a fish.<SPAN> </SPAN>The one thing that changed was I got married.<SPAN> </SPAN>(another brag - a great Finnish girl)<SPAN> </SPAN>I did not have the time to play MTT's like I used to.<SPAN> </SPAN>I could only play on Wednesdays and Sundays.<SPAN> </SPAN>I am not whipped - I chose this schedule to try and balance my professional, poker and personal life. <SPAN> </SPAN>With my new schedule, I did find that I had <SPAN> </SPAN>some extra time.<SPAN> </SPAN>What should I do with my extra time play SNG'S or cash games? No I decided to finally study poker. <SPAN> </SPAN>(what a concept) So I signed up and watched video's from Pokerxfactor, Stoxpoker & PokerPwnange - all great sites.<SPAN> </SPAN>I also read everything I could find. <SPAN> </SPAN>I hired a coach to look at some of the MTT's I played and give me feedback.<SPAN> </SPAN>It is humbling to hear what a coach thinks of your playing skills, but he was right and helped me clear up a few leaks. <SPAN> </SPAN>Coaches are not that expensive and are a great investment for losing and winning players.<SPAN> </SPAN>I also talked with local players<SPAN> </SPAN>I admired - Allinblind & BigDshaggyJ. <SPAN> </SPAN>They were a great help in evolving my thinking about this game.<SPAN> </SPAN>All of these things helped me improve my game in one year.<SPAN> </SPAN>I finally became a winning player.<SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN> </SPAN>Am I the best no!<SPAN> </SPAN>Could I be the best - I don't think so!<SPAN> </SPAN>Do I have fun and win money - most of the time - but back to the question I asked Allinblind.</SPAN><SPAN>
</SPAN><SPAN>Why do I play poker - this is a very simple question for me. <SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN> </SPAN>I like the competition.<SPAN> </SPAN>I enjoy trying to figure all of you out.<SPAN> </SPAN>From the best to the<SPAN> </SPAN>worst player at the table.<SPAN> </SPAN>It<SPAN> </SPAN>keeps my mind fresh and relaxes me at the same time it excites me with the "Thrill of NUTs and the Agony of river."<SPAN> </SPAN>(I paraphrased from ABC sports)<SPAN> </SPAN>I like playing against world class players.<SPAN> </SPAN>There are few sports were a rank amateur can play against the best in a sport and have a chance to win.<SPAN> </SPAN>There are few better feelings then knocking out a big named pro in a tournament.<SPAN> </SPAN>I like winning.<SPAN> </SPAN>One of my recent favorite wins was a $1.10 HORSE SNG.<SPAN> </SPAN>I am not a great HORSE player but had so much fun wining the SNG! <SPAN> </SPAN>I like learning. I enjoy how fast poker is changing and how even the better players are having to work hard to keep up with the game. <SPAN> </SPAN>(I wish I had known all this stuff in 2004 and 2005) I like the extra money.<SPAN> </SPAN>In our shaky economy,<SPAN> </SPAN>the extra money I win allows me to buy things and take trips <SPAN> </SPAN>that <SPAN> </SPAN>I would have delayed until the world financial markets cleared up.<SPAN> </SPAN>I like the comradery of all the poker players online.<SPAN> </SPAN>I have met some of the nicest and strangest people online.<SPAN> </SPAN>I laugh out loud so much that my wife thinks I am watching something funny on the computer.<SPAN> </SPAN>I tell her I am - I AM WATCHING MY FELLOW POKER PLAYERS!</SPAN> -
Im a competitive person.. I like to win.. I would get the same feeling winning a 180 as I would winning a 5 figure tourney. Its about winning and beating other people. Could care less about the money.. I dont have any and when I do have some I spend it on friends and family and stuff..
The best thing about this game is I cant shoot baskets with Lebron James or Kobe Bryant.. I cant catch passes from Peyton Manning. Or center Alexander Ovechkin.. But I can play poker with lilholdem or djk123 or shaundeeb or AJKHoosier or Gboro780 or funnygut and maybe even win a hand or two off them one time. How cool is that. -

I used to wanna be a professional Chess player , the only money I ever made was from teaching chess which is pretty much the way all but the very top echelon of players make their money, I'd def put world of Warcraft WAYYY over chess in money potential.

everyone is life needs a hobby. poker is my hobby. i love everything about poker from the bad beats to flopping the nuts and everything in between. i was talking with a buddy of mine who has become an avid golfer in his late twenties and he was asking why i like poker so much, i simply asked him why he liked to golf so much.
as far as specifically why i like online poker, it has alot to do with me being very competitive as a kid at games of skill online. i loved playing chess, was obsessed with warcraft 2 and played on a thing called kali which really was ahead of its time, and even got seriously into some text based role playing games online. poker seems a more mature extension of that.
also poker is a big bonding point among myself and some of my best friends. -
As much as I hate and curse the game sometimes, I absolutely love the challenge and learning more about the game. I honestly want to become one of the best players. I have spent a lot of time doing training, reading HHs, watching videos, and reviewing hands that I have played in an effort to gain insight and get better. I get pissed off at the game a lot and have a difficult time at the end of the day, but I would feel worse and more pissed off if I gave up. The idea of quitting learning and trying my best gets me even more aggravated than my results. In this game, there isn't a time or place for <span>weining.....errr whining. We play to wein, we play @ FTP....and stars, some at UB.......cake?</span>
