  1. I was wondering what the laws are if you get caught operating a home poker game with a rake. cant find much about it. I know a few people who have these games i was just wondering how much trouble they could get in. i live in North Carolina i dont know if that matters.
  2. Anyone who rakes a home gome deserves at the very least waterboarding.. If not a good curbstomping.

    lol
  4. Id only take rake at a home game if I was supplying drinks, strippers etc.

If it is just a standard home game with a buy-in and no perks. And rake is taken.. Call 911 immediatly and report robbery.
  5. You need a lawyer familiar with NC law to give you an opinion on the legal issues that would arise.

Nevertheless, doesn't seem like a good idea. All you need is one disgruntled person calling the cops and saying your promoting gambling in violation of the law, etc. Even if you end up being cleared it would be a huge headache, I would think.

  6. I don't know anything about NC laws, but I do know it's definitely illegal. You wouldn't be facing jail time but you'd get a fine.

As for Afink that depends. If it's a few guys getting together for some beers and fun then yeah I think it's retarded to rake. Even down here in the south though there are cardrooms. They've been busted/robbed at gunpoint. They still operate. Honestly, if you're thinking of running an actual cardroom OP and it gets big/popular, I'd be much more worried about the criminal element. I know personally there was only one game in town I would go to because they had security cameras, buzz in/buzz outs, etc and I knew and trusted everyone there. If this is your personal residence I wouldn't consider it in your shoes. When all is said and done though a few uniformed officers busting in would be a sigh of relief compared to other shit that can and has happened before and that's what I would be the most concerned about. Be careful. If this is something you're planning on doing no matter what then I'd say keep it tight knit and don't let anyone in you don't know or who doesn't know a person you trust in the game that can vouch for them. If you don't, you'll be sorry.

  7. In the early 1990s, I knew a guy in Vermont who ran a game out of his pad-while I never visited, always heard he laid on a nice spread, for $1-3 drop per pot. Someone dropped a dime on him, though, and he wound up going away for a bit.
  8. google??

FWIW I looked this up for a friend, only a few days ago.

It is 1 yr in county + $10,000 in California. (First offense) (Second offense gets state time)
  9. throw a party with drinks and stripper and just charge a cover

  10. i think people get around this by offering free pizza, drinks, snacks and shit but they are still making money. most all the games i have heard of have all of this free stuff they have for the players. that way they can say the rake is for this stuff. even though they are still making a good bit.

  11. i've heard of a game from where i'm from that has free food and stuff too, assuming thats how u get off the hook for the rake.
  12. was at a game 4 years ago in Michigan that got busted by a swat team (WEMET). The guy running the game was a friend of mine. Everyone was questioned and the fuzz took everything. Table, Big Screen, Players' and home owner's laptop, and all the money.

The guy spent a night in jail and got a good lawyer and just had some fines and community service. The players got their laptops back but everything else was kept.

The key is don't let anyone you don't know in the game. It is very hard for them to prove you are raking a game without undercover cops in the game (that's how this guy got caught). And let all your players know that if the game does get busted when they are questioned to say "yeah I think he takes something from each pot to cover the food and beer but then stops once its paid for."

You should be much more worried about getting robbed than the 5-0 rollin in
