  4. Depositing a million bucks!?

LOL, I'll just assume you meant $1000 like everyone else did. Anyway, start off at the bottom, the small $3 single table tourneys and the $1 45-man games. See how online poker works and get used to the software. You'll be tempted to try MTT's, but I wouldn't until you get a feel for everything (I personally hate the low stakes minefield MTT's).

Find out what games you are good/best at by recording your stats, and then when you feel ready, move up! Read about Bankroll Management and through the archives here at P5l, good luck!
  5. I agree with everyone else $1 to $3 sngs. I would also throw in a couple small buy-in mtts $3 reb, $2 freezeouts, to spice things up a bit.

  6. Bang... I think this depends on your financial situation. If 1 k means alot to you I would recommend playing free a bit longer or at the very least starting a $1 s and g's.

I strongly suggest you play s and g's as opposed to big MTT's because of variance in the huge fields.

Playing s and g's will also speed up your progress as a player due to all of the short handed and final table play that will be scarce in big mtt's for even the best of players.

I also think 1 k is too much to deposit initially as you will surely play over your head and lose it faster unless you are exremely disciplined.

Also take the time to read a good book like the harrington on holdem series is a good starting point. If you feel you have a solid fundamental understanding then use part of your 1 k to invest in poker x factor.

In order to fulfill your dreams of poker stardom or eventual financial freeedom it will take a great deal of study a great deal of hands played and great deal of work unless you are the next Stu Ungar

    my 2 cents ...Blaze

  7. play the 9 man sngs to build some confidence at first.
  8. oops $1000 it is

  9. play $3 or $5 sngs, 9 man up to 45 man NON turbo. Even at $5, you will have 200 buy ins. If you stick to this level strictly and find yourself down more than $250 (50 buy in downswing), you have to read more, or learn more. Play abc poker in these and you should gain experience and do fine.
  10. as far as what kind of game u should play, MTTs without a doubt. yes, they have brutal swings, but u never stop learning and when u get paid... U get paid. ide start by playing single table sit n gos til you're confortable with shoving ranges based on position and stack size, might as well just play the dollar ones cause u not really tryin to make money here. after u start getting the hang of that, play 90 man KO sngs on full tilt. theyre probably the easiest game to beat, and u can build a role real quick. once ur feeling confident start throwing in some 5 and 11 $ mtts, and follow BR management, u should be crushing in no time
  11. Dont play the $3 rebuy as someone said!!! how can you recommend $1 or $3 sngs and then what is effectively a $30 mtt!!?

Personally i would play the $3 sngs to learn the game and play some 45 man $1 and if on stars the $2.20 180 man turbos once you start learning push/fold. then mix in some other 90/180 man sngs.
making sure you learn the fundamentals right from the offset is also key imo, so study and post some hands on here. critique others play etc and always be open to criticism from other players about your play (as long as they are being constructive). keep track of your stats etc and being able to honestly analyse your play will go along way too.
  12. now i really feel part of the family
    keep them coming
    thank you

  13. Welcome to the community. We can always use a new friendly face here.

As far as your bankroll is concerned, I suggest depositing considerably less (maybe $200) so you don't have an 'endless money pit' so to speak for small buy-in games. Play single table SNG's at a buy in between $1 - $3. Don't play MTT's until you've got a pretty grasp of the concepts involved.

I believe this type of bankroll combined with these types of games/buy-ins will teach you about discipline and you will be able to learn about on-line poker at the same time. I think that's what you're looking for right now.

Good luck at whatever way you decide to proceed.
