  1. A friend of mine just signed up a new account and is brand new to poker. What reading material would you suggest first for him?

When I started Phil Gordons books were great for establishing an ABC game and getting odds and hand values down. I'm obv gonna get him set up here for advise as well.

Thanks for any help you can give us...
  2. Harrington's books are probably a good start for him

  3. tell him not to start lol ....i wish som1 gave me that advice
  4. Also read bankroll management articles, articles on whatever type of game he plans to play (cash, MTT, SNG), and also put in at least a few hours playing with play money to get used to get used to playing online and multi-tabling
  5. teach him how important position and bankroll management are
  6. Rakeback dont sign up without it

  8. Sell his account, cause everyone knows new accounts run good?

  9. Best piece of advice i can give is start out playing Tonight in the 1k Monday, and play the Super Tuesday tomm, softest fields you can find...
  10. Bank Roll Management!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish someone woulda beat that into me when I 1st started. Probably would of saved me like 10 deposits.
Super System is good obv. Daniel's book is good. It's more conversational and not so text booky , so it's a lot easier to get into.
    and
Training sites > than dusting off a few hundo trying to learn the hard way.

o0o0o and explain variance ... a lot of stop happens online that takes a month to happen live.

i think i can thank supersystem for a large portion of my initial losses, fwiw. everything else here's spot on
  12. I would suggest Ace on the River at some point if he is trying to really understand the outside factors of the game. I thought Super System 2 was very helpful. Is he playing tournaments or cash? Harrington's books are all excellent. Read 2+2 and PD, discuss hands with other players, watch final table replays on stars, join a video site like cardrunners.

  16. Phil Hellmuth might be off his rocker now but his book, play poker like the pros I believe its called was a great starter book for me. Teaches the basic starting hands you need to play and just an all around good base to go from.
  17. I have my own rakeback site, so I have him hooked up there. Would Phil Gordon's little green book be alright these days to get the basics down? Or am I sending him on a path of nitty losing...
