I play the 16 turbos on stars and just realized i had a 19% ROI over my first ~300 and I have broken even over my last ~300. Very frustrating.
-
i played 120 sngs today and had 25 buyin downswing...nice huh
-
Three years??
-
life?
-
After 242 sitngos I had a $19.55 profit.
Only turned it around the least couple of months. -
i was hoping you would chime in. I think I may pull my hair out if I end up with a streak like that!
-
David....how many do you play at once?
-
David, are you planning to try ur luck at a higher buyin soon. what goal do u have or do u have a set time period of playing these?
-
I've been 12-tabling lately. I don't really have any timeline to move up in limits right now. The emotional roller-coaster that multi-tabling (on a daily/weekly/monthly/yearly basis) puts me through forces me to keep around 100 buy-ins in my account at all times. That way, when the 40 buy-in downswings come, I can still play my game & not have to worry about bankroll issues.
I figure if I can get to the point of about 5,000 $27 Turbos played, and get to the point where I'm more solid emotionally & mentally, then I might move up and try to 10-table the $55+5 Turbos sometime around Christmas as long as I then have 100 buy-ins in my account to work with. Right now though, I'm concentrating on getting enough money together to afford our Vegas trip to the WSOP Main Event (my wife is making the trip with me).
Over my last 1,000 SnG's, I'm showing a very low profit margin and have an ITM placement that is hilariously laughable (unless you're me). Even the worst donk in the world wouldn't have an ITM placement expectation quite as bad as what I've had over my last 1,000 (about 100 Wins, 140 2nd's, and 150 3rd's). But it's just one of those things where my opponents are nailing me with double-somersault, 3/4 spin, flying head-butts from the top turnbuckle. It's still laughable... just requires a whole lot of dedication to continue playing your game without adjusting it. 12-tabling is more mechanical than playing just a couple of tables.
Yes, it's the worst run I've ever seen by far (and that's probably saying something), but I'm having problems rolling with the flow mentally & emotionally right now... which means I'm weaker than I need to be. After all, if it can happen once, it can happen again (even twice in a row). So I have to deal with the reality facing me right now and accept what I previously thought statistically impossible (although some multi-tabling pros had already told me this type of run would inevitably happen to any gazillion-tabler).
Here's to the next 1,000...
David -
nice post david... would you be up for a 20 table challenge later today...
20 of the 1.75 turbo's... whoever profits most wins $5? -
Hey David, i was just wondering how many monitors you use. I was 8-tabling a bit ago to test it out, but i was using 2 different computers. Theres no way i could fit 8 onto one screen(maybe with the new resizable tables at stars) but still its a hassle. So do you just have duel monitors, or seperate computers? And do you play on different sites while youre playing? Thanks for your answers in advance. :)
The Mooks -
Thanks for you honesty and transparency on this whole sng profitability issue, David.
-
I use a 15" laptop monitor. I prefer overlap because nausea & headaches develop if I have to look at all those cards, players, etc. Other pro multi-tablers might have different setups. But I do this 40 hours per week (at least), and would rather avoid looking at anything I don't have to (like every all-in race, etc.).
-
Just a little while ago I ran break even for about 400 $16s. I finally realized I was letting some majors leaks creep in, fixed them, and ran up like 2k+ my next 500-600. That being said it's not that difficult at all to play great poker for 500 sngs and break even, because you are one unlucky dude.

I also recommend to cascade ur 12 tables when u do this since one table pops, u act and then another one pops up and its alot easier... cascade ur tables regularly to see ur afk on one table... and dont worry about the variance, ive had probably had 10-15 sessions where im +150$ and others where i cash like 2 of 12 sngs... -
uh...dunno

DHub, you ever take a day or two off here and there from poker?
For about a year, I have used playing $33 SNGs as a second income to my measely stipend I get as a volunteer. And I notice when I play poorly, it is mainly due to the fact that poker is not fresh to me and I tend to devalue my opponents and think I am better than I actually am.
However, I find when I take a day off and perhaps not think about poker, I find that I start doing some reading and I get eager to get back to the tables, and even when I am not successful at first, I find that I get my money in good a lot more often.
The one thing that really stuck with the parts of Super/System that I read is when Doyle was talking about forcing yourself to take time off in that even when you think you are playing good, often times you are playing like crap. -
D HUb and Sippin- When you are 12 tabling do you do it for a set time or just have different sessions.
To clarify more, Do you say you are going to play for 2 hours and then constantly keep opening up 1 sit n go as you bust out of another. Or do you play 12, and when you are out of all of them start up a new session. Thanks.
I usually 6-8 table the 6.50's, I just moved up to the 16s and threw my first 20 Im sitting at -2 ROI, lol I suppose I better give it another 80 or so before I quit and move back down to the 6.50s though haha. -
if i was able to stay infront of a cpu for 5 hours straight id probably try to keep 12 tables up all the time and start a new sng eveytime i got knocked out of one.
but i like to sit down for an hour or two and start my 12 sngs and not start any before im finished with the 12 (unless i get a cold deck/bad beat in the first level). this helps me with the end game of some of my sngs since ill be down to something like 6 tables after 35 minutes and i get to quickly look at my players and concentrate on the stack sizes of the table and think about my calling range etc... i also finish a session, enter my stats and read the bottom of my spreadsheet and say "i made 28$ this hour".
pretty good summer job :)
