I'm on the "Jennifear" program. "Win your first dollar." Thus, I've accumulated 2 hubbles tickets and a PCA round 2 ticket from freerolls... Absolutely 0 FPP's....
I need the inspiration!! Share some of your zero to hero love!? Thanks! -
Ur screen name makes me shutter.
-
Yeah I won a "worst screen name" ever contest when me and my buddies started online poker. I got $150 out of the pool to start... bleed it all away... go figure.
-
You need to believe in yourself no matter what. Self confidence is very important.

You wanna make it? Keep up your positive attitude and move up in levels appropriately when you have a bankroll. This is the key the poker. -
you gotta start somewhere. i started out grinding freerolls and play money, till i figured out the game enough that i was comfortable depositing money. took me a few $50 deposits before i started winning anything worthwhile.
honestly if you can donk your way through the hubbles freerolls you should have no problem beating $1-5 sngs and mtts. -
I accumulated $25 in OT for helping someone with some homework. Started grinding 10 cent 180-man sngs and $1.10 Double-or-Nothings. Did well at that and moved up to playing $6 6-max turbo sngs. Just took down my first PLO tourny for almost $500 tonight. So i went from $0 in acct last monday to almost 1k a week later. Keep the faith man, if you grind it, it will come.

I didn't start at zero, but my story is still starting to shape up nicely. :)
After many reloads on Full Tilt, I finally started using a modified version of Ferguson's bankroll management system for online tournaments (mostly 45 and 90-player SNGs) on March 18th. Check out how fast my online bankroll grew once I started following the bankroll management guidelines:
3/18/08 to 4/18/08: $1,171 ---> $1,626 (+39%)
4/18/08 to 5/18/18: $1,626 ---> $2,287 (+41%)
5/18/08 to 6/18/08: $2,287 ---> $3,056 (+34%)
6/18/08 to 7/18/08: $3,056 ---> $5,987 (+96%)
7/18/08 to 8/18/08: $5,987 ---> $8,397 (+40%)
8/18/08 to 9/18/08: $8,397 ---> $10,999 (+31%)
9/18/08 to 10/18/08: $10,999 ---> $11,856 (+8%)
10/18/08 to 11/18/08: $11,856 ---> $17,305 (+46%)
Here's a link to the thread where I detailed all my trials and tribulations, along with monthly updates. You can see how I was forced to identify my mistakes and make adjustments as I went along.

And here's a link where you can download the Excel spreadsheet for my current tournament buy-in guidelines.

Hope learning from my mistakes is helpful to some of you.

all very sound advice. i used to play on party years ago and donked off a lot of money. my "poker addiction" cost me a partnership in a business...
i've since recovered and have lived a relatively responsible adult life, but i remember what it was like to sit in my dorm room for hours, bleeding cash... gambling. i feel like im one deposit away from insta-relapse...
deposit = no no. -
Used to deposit 50 or 100 or so on paradise poker a few times, would always run it up to 300 or so then lose it.
Eventually I turned 100 or so into 500 on stars and my buddy taught me how to "grind" cash games. I played .10/25 then .25/50 all summer then when I went to my first year of college, I blew out my hamstring and decided to play alot of poker due to boredom and having a long distance gf. I did the mansion promotion which basically was my whole bankroll and made a free 1,000$. I then took my 2k and started playing small MTTs where I had a few scores, then I went back to cash games and did ok.
Eventually I found out that I didn't have enough time for MTTs although I was better at them than cash. I just started getting more experienced at cash and eventually found thats what I should do.
I decided that I would see how I could do if for 1 month I played basically "full time" since I was off school and for the most part hockey during xmas break. Things went well and I grinded out almost 90k hands and hit supernova on pokerstars.
It was all about playing hands and getting experience for me that made me a better player. I also befriended some people who were good and that helped me with talking over hands and such. -
wsex.com has really good freerolls

Had about a 23k bankroll about 5 months ago and moved up to the sunday majors and all the big tournies. The next 4 months I ran like shit and never moved down levels. I bled my br all the down to 1k when my friend started to back me in tournaments. I had 1,000 to my name after having 23,000, life was tough.
My last two weeks however:
Nov 23rd - 1st in Big Double A for $3k
Nov 25th - 3rd in 30k KO for $3.9k
Nov 29th - 3rd in 90k for $12.9k
Dec 2nd - 2nd in 65k for $12.8k
Dec 2nd - 3rd in Big Double A for $1.5k
Dec 5th - 2nd in $50cubed 18.5k for $3.5k
you can do it! -
I started by selling my play money chips from pokerstars.Zero risk way of starting a bankroll.I got $10 for every million in play chips.Easy as that.

It was in the back seat of my neighbors 1976 Thunderbird. That thing was like a cruise ship. I was 14, so was she. She was a virgin, I wasn't but I lied to try and level the playing field. Virginity is a tough mountain to climb. So anyway, doing it in the house was out of the question since my mom had ears like the bionic women (70's tv show for you youngins) and had a never ending intuition that I was up to no good. And she was mean....like if I even thought of a cuss word I caught a high heeled shoe upside my melon. No way was I going to desecrate her home by doing what 7 billion other teanagers have done since the dawn of time. So we tried to do it in the shed but the floor was too hard on her knees, and the smell of gasoline from the lawnmower almost overpowered us and she nearly passed out. So then we walked down by the river with a blanket we stole from the dryer of the landromat we passed on the way. We get to the river bank and lay on the blanket and get to business. I didn't even get 1/4 shaft in before we were relentlessly attacked by mosquitoes. It really killed the mood...so we bounced. Here we are, 2 horny teenagers half dressed and depressed walking down the street, broke, with nowhere to screw. Thats when it came to me. Like if you could actually see the lightbulb go off in my head it would have provided heat and energy to the world for a week. That back seat is bigger then my bed at home. Dear God please let it be unlocked. BINGO! Might have been the best 10 minutes of my life. I only needed 3, but I spent the next 7 apologizing. When I got home my mom knew somehow and beat the hell out of me...but it was worth it.

Ok for more inspiration, (poker related).. I was down to about 20 bones or so in my stars acct and while on tilt I regged for the 11R. I ended up finishing 4th for a lil over 3k..I was down to $50 in my stars acct and took down the $27.50 40k guarantee on stars for 7k...These are just two of the examples of waaaay over extending your BR and playing beyond your means...but taking the shot and getting lucky is the shizzle..never say die!!!! GL out there!

fwiw I took all of money off in Oct of 06 and stopped playing for a bit....okay like two days....then played an FPP satty to the Million and won and played sngs with that and was on the Mueller Bankroll Management System, in which I started a thread back then about it.
Anyway, my system was play as large as I could go and my goal was to make 1k before the week was over and I did it, I got third in a 300 dollar sng and then I won a 10 dollar mtt. I since haven't deposited or anything of that nature. -
Does anyone feel like converting all of the numbers in Chipless Wonders BR Spreadsheet to pokerstars SNG/Tourney Buyin's? I know its not a big deal, and there are a lot of similarities, but someone might wanna do it. I'd like the copy :D
-
Just let me know about any other tourneys that you want included and I'll add them to the spreadsheet for you. :)

I'll need the total buy-in, number of players, and number of places paid for each game.
