I just uploaded some HH for the first time into the PXF replayer. My PUFF factor varies pretty wildly in tournaments where I've done well and I was wondering just how much of a correlation there is between how well you do in a tourney and the quality of your starting hands. I imagine it has much more to do with the situations you get into; if you get AA eighteen times in a tourney you're not going to be doing well if everyone just folds all those times.
Any PXFers notice any patterns with it?

Here we go again. How long before the 3 puffs from the skeletor water bong response?
-
PUFF is essentially irrelevant. It's a fun statistic and I'm not knocking it, just pointing out that it's basically meaningless and inapplicable for what most people want to read out of it.

puff lived by the sea..i only see him when i take the acid with jerrys hand print on it

for those of us who arent so lucky to be in the know
care to explain puff and how to calculate it? -
I'd be interested in a modified PUFF that takes position into account, which it currently does not. The relative value of big hands diminishes the earlier you are to act, especially late in tourneys when stealing/restealing become huge. Having AA/KK in the SB, BB or on the button are much more valuable than having them UTG.
I've taken note of what the PUFFs were when players mention them in the videos. Using the replayer I notice that they hover around average. -

PUFF (Preflop Unadjusted Fortune Factor)

Unique to the PokerXFactor Hand History Analyzer, a tool that allows players to animated hand histories into Flash movies, PUFF stands for Preflop Unadjusted Fortune Factor. PUFF determines the preflop strength of your hole cards in No Limit Hold'em. It is "unadjusted" because it does not take into account position, chip stacks, nor the stage of the tournament. Average PUFF is 50%. If you have a PUFF score below 50%, that means that, for that particular tournament, the strength of your hole cards overall was below average. If it is over 50%, then the strength of your hole cards was above average. Typically, we find that people win tournaments with PUFF above 50% but we also see players win tournaments with extremely low PUFFs. The PUFF score should helps a player to really know if they were "card dead" or not.

Or add more Fortune Factors like the FHSF: Flopped Hand Strength Factor and SBDF: Suckout By Donkey Factor to see how good you really ran in each tourney :)
