Example:
Say there's 100 chips in the pot and your stack is 1,000, the smallest % of your stack is %10 if you like a shove there. -
I like shove
-
15% to 20% Jtown. %10 is a bit of a spew I reakon.
-
Yeah I explained that like crap, what I mean is in order for you to go all in preflop, how big do you need the pot to be, or what is your ideal pot size for a preflop-shove?
-
i think hes thinking of the M value for preflop pot from blinds+antes makes it more EV to shove rather than raise, etc
-
how about wording like this... how much does a shove need to increase your stack to make it the right play? your ex. is 10% or are the pros looking for a higher % like 15-20?
It's a guestion that i've always thought about, but never found an answer... -
I don't think there is an answer to this question. The larger the all-in, the more hands that your opponent (should) be folding. So with a larger all-in, your chance of success goes up but your risk also goes up.
Against a very tight player, shoving to gain anywhere from 10% to 30% may be profitable with any hand. Against a loose opponent... who knows. -
20% which equates to 5 "M" is a good starting point. All things being equal, that's the point where I go from standard raising to open-shoving. I kind of use this as a rule where previous action is involved as well. For example, if I have AK suited and there is a raise and a call in front of me making the pot equal 20% of my stack then normally I will shove as opposed to making a smaller raise if I am going to play the hand.

Yo jtown, check out this thread. I posed the same question in different wording about a month ago.

thanks for the response dyzalot..... i've been ko'd way too many times shoving ak to gain about 10% to my stack.. after the play it just seems like such a waste...
