UTG min-raiser had been playing fairly loose, his minraise looked weak and I had been quite tight up to this point so figured I would play this in position and to possibly hit a well-disguised monster. Then this happened. No real reads on villain, recently joined table. What's your play here?
  2. I hate this spot, I try not to get here.

As played get your chips in here - you called a bet on the flop with a 3rd best flush draw on a PRed board in a muliway pot (not a great spot IMO) - you hit your draw get your chips in. If you are going to fold a bet when you hit WTF are you doing in the pot anyway? (I'll take a ROFL here )

Normaly I would have put in a raise on the flop to between ~2/3 and full pot but with 750 in and ~2500 back you are getting real close to commited so a push isn't to out of line. A raise to ~400 you could still fold a push. My point is decide on the flop what your line is going to be.

    Fold pre - good
    Raise the flop - good

Call the flop & fold when you hit - not so good

    my 2 cents
  3. Fair points, all of them. So here's my thought process and how it played out.

I actually did not raise on the flop because of the player to come on this dangerous board, his mere call (presumably based on pot odds) made me more certain he did not have much. At that point I was pretty sure no-one held a lone king. AK was still a possibility for the pre flop raiser, but who in their right mind would min-raise with AK UTG????

So the big bet on the turn by UTG+1 to me signalled
    1) a made flush
    2) a lone A
    3) a Q/J 4-flush
    4) Air - but very unlikely with this many in the hand

At this point - and I took time to think it through - I have option 2 & 3 (and 4) crushed and stand a good chance against 1 since there's only 2 higher flushes than mine. So I push - if i'm beaten now there's no way i'm not losing all of my chips anyway, so no point in delaying. Villain turns over....9h4h!!!!....I was elated and amazed at the same time. I know I called a min raise with T8s, but I was in late position with 2 people in the pot - and T8 connect a heck of a lot better than 94. I cannot think of a situation where I would call a minraise in EP with 94s.

By the way, 90% of the time I do fold this preflop - but you gotta mix it up sometimes

I wouldn't totaly discount a Kx that tried for a c/r and is now trying to look flush with 10 outs in case of action.

But why the flat call on the UTG probe bet on the flop if you have trips with a flush draw?

For the same reason someone bet 100 into a 750 pot - they haven't got a clue :)
