I was playing in a local game last night when I got into a discussion with the player next to me regarding folding A A preflop. He then went on to tell me a story that had him at the final table of event paying out six figures. He was a sizable chip leader, he had double the second place chip stack.
Anyway, he told me he mucked pocket aces preflop after three of the short stacks got all their chips in the middle. (There were 7 players left at this point).
Was this the right move? Or was he playing scared looking just to move up in the money?
Discuss.... -
your friend is retarded unless it was some sort of satelite.
-
Thats what I was trying to tell him, he actually tried really hard to make me think that was the correct move. I dunno call me crazy, but I don't lay that down.
-
I would muck it when I misclick.
-
possibly the worst fold ive ever heard of..........with three people allin, AND he is considerable chip leader, this is an insta-call, say it was 6 handed at this point, not only does he have a chance to knock out 3 players and make it 3 handed (and move up a lot in the money which his arguement was), but also he now has a dominant chip lead and can run over the remaining two/wait for them to knock other out, also, if you arent gonna play AA at a final table what hand are you going to play??? vnld sir
-
is this a serious question?
-
I hope the three short stacks chopped that pot and your friend busted 7th.
-
The only time I would ever even consider mucking AA preflop would be in a satellite...then it is +ev
-
How short are the short stacks? He is likely a 50% hand which makes a call with a reasonable % of his stack a good call. I had this happen at the Hall of Fame at Binions in a $500 satellite for the Main event with 5 allins preflop I had A-A in big blind. I considered a fold but it was the last one so i called and won.
-
Your friend is crazy.

So you wouldnt fold it here if you were simona75?

LOL, no i wouldn't fold AA there if i was Simona, but i would thank you for doubling me up. -
I did it once.
Back when stars was doing the big giveaways for milestone hands, I was at eight .01/.02 tables, folding everything and anything in sight trying to time up for the milestones.
So, yeah, that's about it except for satellite situations. -
Obviously this isn't a regular occurance. But i was playing with some friends one night and we get into a hand where utg raises, i push with QQ on the button, and the BB sits there thinking and says I have a bad feeling about this one. He folds, utg calls with JJ and then the BB flips over his AA that he just mucked. Obvious jack on flop...
This actually happened, and I love this home game...lol -
1)
First hand of a sng.
You are in the big blind and the 8 other players go all in ahead of you.
Here it is more profitable to fold your AA and settle for 2nd place.
2)
Bubble of a multi when you have less than 1/8 of a big blind on the button and will guarantee to cash by folding.
3)
Some satellite situations.
4)
Misclicks.

Mbardsen.. add
SNG or MTT, bubble, utg with very very few chips remaining (like 10 or so)
SNG, bubble, with shortstack, last to act, and all the other three players are allin. -
he actually didnt have AA and had AQo. Granted I sucked out on him but I think if I were him and had AA I would fold.
-
never ever ever, if variance backfires, then gg me, but never ever in a situation like that
-
Yeah muck it, just like I mucked a royal flush yesterday when he went all in on the river...

I guess I would muck my AA preflop here....cuz I should've known on tilt the quads were coming. -
I can see your buddys point of folding AA with all those people in if he had a normal stack say even or just above one of the allins and there were 4 people already allin. At this point with 6-7 people left I might fold and hope to move up toward the top 3 in a top heavy payout tourney that payed 6 figures. But not with double the chips of everyone else.
-
when the gun to my head is loaded

A while back a bunch of friends were playing a Poker Superstars style format, where you're playing rounds for points. 3 people were all in and all one guy had to do to make it to the next round was fold, and he got AA. He was last to act and showed his hand which sparked quite a fun discussion. Ends up he folds and would have lost, but obviously this is the right play with his seat in the next round guaranteed. However, had he called and won he would've gotten more chips in the next round. That being said, this is the ONLY non satellite preflop fold of AA I condone.

AA is a call here, easily.
-
you would be retarded for folding AA in this spot, R-E-tarded
