YOU.... or Chris Monymaker ?
From what I have witnessed of his play, I am going to say me, lol. How about you? -
yeah, i think moneymaker is pretty bad....
-
He's bad but not as bad as Robert Varkoyni.....I played in a one table satillitte with him at the WPF in Foxwoods and he was the first one out...not due to a bad beat , just bad play....
lilphil -
To put it quite simply, Moneymaker would beat all of us except some of the best players here on this site. It seriously cracks me up whenever the topic of Moneymaker comes up and his poor play. 1st WSOP main event, runner up at WPT Shooting stars, and a few other WPT cashes. Seriously the man can play. Did he get lucky, yes. BUT, any real tournament player would tell you that you need to get lucky in a few hands in order to win a tourny. The fact he has put himself in position to win is a sign of skill.
Course, Moneymaker is divorced now, broke from what I hear, and probably will be a has been in several years because he has many character flaws to go along with a clear lack of bankroll management. -
ture, i agree w/ Varqoni or however you spell it, i was laughing when he got a coach (from the BJ MIT group) how can the guy possiblly help? all he did in 2003 was tell him who he was sitting next to and robert was like "umm yeah sure, i recongnize him" like he didnt care.
moneymaker has some skill w/ reading plays and such, but i thought there were two 3 big plays that made him win in 2003, i've watched it over and over again.
#1 was Johnny Chan just giving away his chips to him before a break.
#2 was what he says "i read him for high cards" when he called dutch boyds all in w/ 3 overs on board. when he had 33, i believe he called because he was already in top 20 and he cashed and didnt care anymore.
#3 was of course the Phil Ivey take out before final table, but i feel all of us woulda played it the same way and i felt his play at the final 2 tables was pretty solid. -
#2, maybe maybe not. But we do not know how much Dutch was pushing (from what I have heard and what I know of Dutch's style he is quite aggressive) and given that board he correctly put him on overs and that Dutch's bet was one meant to push him out of the pot.
#3 like you said, I dont think anyone gets away from trip Q's w/ A kicker with a QQ9 rag board. Beyond this, I just noticed this the other day, it was only about 250k for Moneymaker to call with about 780k in the pot. Given its 3 to 1, no one would fold. -
Moneymaker is a much better player now, than he was when he won the 2003 WSOP. Even he says that. Varkonyi is just a guy who was a huge luckbox one year.
-
Moneymaker definitly got lucky that year to win. He's not nearly good enough to be winning the WSOP. But I don't think he's as bad as his reputation is.. and he's made some final tables at other major tournaments since, so it wasn't total luck.
But I do agree that Varkonyi is a TERRIBLE player. I have no idea how that guy won. -
He would beat all of us? HAHAHAHA. man tooo funny. His IQ is not high enough to beat us in the fashion that which you proclaim. He beat 800 and? I have won several MTT's online and a couple live , I do not think i could beat most players on this forum, as you say Moneymaker can. C'mon man just admit it, he got lucky. Every dog has his day.
-
I do not care if MoneyMaker is a good player or not he has something the rest of do not have "WSOP Championship" until we each have the title there is no reason to criticize MoneyMaker as a person or player.
-
i find it really funny when i hear people bad mouthing anybody on tv. first off, he beat hundreds of people to even get the wsop seat online. then he comes and beats 800+ people in live play. i don't care how "lucky" the guy is, that's impressive as hell.
second, keep in mind that they play for what...6-7 days and 12-15 hours a day? i think they probably showed about 40 of his hands...tops. they didn't show hands where he made a great play to steal a small pot, cause that's not good tv. so before you're judgemental over anyone on tv...just remember that you're only watching what espn wants to you watch. -
Admit he is the luckiest player alive. Just admit it.
-
very true about TV editing, just look at how bad they made Josh Arieh look during the 2004, they wanted you to think he was a young punk w/ no respect to anyone.
and they made Mike the Mouth look pretty bad, well he does talk alot but hes not that bad.... -
haha mmobius2001... "editing" Sounds like something Omarosa would say.
