Ok so I would like to hear from those people that have went from rags to riches...tell me your success stories and where you started and where you are now....
-
this one time, i had a penny.
and you wouldn't believe it i found another penny on the ground. now i have two. -
meh not really rags from riches, but i only deposited $50 one time 2 years ago and built my br VERY slowly, now im rolled to play $110 heads up and 2/5 cash regularly. Sux having to withdraw 1500 a month, or id grow a lot quicker.
-
No way, 100% ROI, I don't believe it, even at the penny level. :)
I don't have a story. I'm a winning player, but I wasn't in rags when I started, and other than having some extra money to blow every other week, not significantly better off. -
Always...and i mean always look at profit taking as a positive. If you don't, poker will drive you insane in the long run and it will not be as much fun as it used to be.
You are cashing out what you won.....thats a huge positive. -
Nothing huge, I have turned $50 into 4k twice in the past year.
Cashed out some and lost some. Workin on a 3rd time now, I hope I can do it again this time and keep the roll. -
turned a 4 dollar satty into a 3rd place finish in the bodog 100k for $10,000 in less than 24 hours.....not a bad roi
-
turned $100 into $7500 in one night winning he 28k g on ftp and 3rd in the 5d rebuy on ftp, cashed out the majority, then went on the next week to come 2nd in the 50/50 plus some other final table results. for anuva 7k or so. Then one night dropped bout 500 and ever since then lost a bit of confidence and not getting there as i was before : ( am presently roll less. Next time defo not cashing out, gonna build that bitch into a small Fortune : )
Seriously need bankroll management advice. -
Seriously...... I had 2 bucks in my account 2 weeks ago, i got 2nd in a $2 tournament for $300, i took that 300 and play 1-2 nl , made 150, played in the 100 rebuy, the nightly hundred grand, and the 50k guaranteed, cashed 6th in the 100 rebuy for $4,700 25th in the nightly 100k for about 600, and 27th in the 50k gurarantee, for about 200 ish, took that money and play the 25-50 NL. within a week, I made over $40,000 . I now have over 50k in my account.
Thats a lesson to people wanting to hit big, i had $2 in my account two weeks ago, now I have over $50,000 -
i began 07 w a 3k BR
-
My guess is you will be back at $2 within 2 weeks...
-
looks like he already is, hes playn 5 dollar trnys again.......
-

freeroll on bodog about 2 years ago for 3$. Took forever to hit 1000, two years later ive made about 30k profit maybe. Winning more each year it seems. In a bit of a dry spell lately though so who knows. Goal for this summer is 20k

All my winnings have come from a $0 investment. I first started playing on partypoker a few years ago using the instantbankroll.com website. So I got my $75 and grinded out .5/1 limit until I got to $300. I then played a $50 tourney after tennis practice (and I was a tourney noob for the most part, just watched tournaments on TV) and got 2nd for $1700. I then played a few more tournies on partypoker, didnt make that much more money but w/e. My dad didnt know about my poker and when he found out he made me cash out (this was when I was a junior in high school).
So senior year in high school I convinced my dad to let me put some money on bodog for the summer before freshman year college. I played a little bit, didnt make much, and cashed out before school started because he didnt want poker to disrupt my studies.
Come a random night in November I was really bored and logged into my bodog account and saw I had those poker player points. I played a 1000 point one and won it for 250 T$. My first real money tourney on bodog after that was the $44 30K and I got 11th which really sucked cause I was chip leader with 11 left, just lost 2 big hands where I were favorites on the flop.
So two days later I decided to play the 30K again and won it for $7500. This was huge for me and I was in total shock that I could win a tourney for this much money. Naturally I didnt tell my dad cause I wanted to keep playing, lol. So that next weekend, I go home for sunday football and I decided to show my dad my 10K bankroll (from cash game profits too) and he was stunned. He though poker was just a small thing for me but I showed him what I won. His reaction was mixed, he was happy I won 10K to help pay for college but he was upset that I was playing behind his back. We made a compromise that day that I had to cash out everything but $500. So I did and that Sunday I decided to play the 100K and I got 2nd for $14,000, playing right in front of my dad's eyes. Again, another shocker but he was starting to believe there was something good between me and poker. However, he made me cashout $13,700 leaving me with around an $800 bankroll. I decided to move this money to pokerstars and that is my story (and some winnings from pokerstars to full tilt). $0 to whatever cashes I currently have now.
Moral to the story: It's definitely possible to turn $0 into money. I learned tournament poker not only by watching TV but by watching tournaments such as the 100r. I would honestly just watch the 100r from 5 tables onward to learn poker from the best. Poker can come naturally to some people but for the most part, tournament poker can be learned. Just be receptive to learning and watching other player's games and make observations. -
Bout 3 years ago this time the party poker mini steps launched and my 1st big win was a win in those worth 2k, after that things finally started coming together, I was mainly a stepper and build a 50-60k roll off the steps/sngs and some mtts only on party poker.. Ha, i remember watching Danny The_D_RY killing it back then ( I Idolized him).
I voluntarily cut my parents off to try supporting myself (still in University far away from home) when i had that roll built and havent struggled since, i shifted more to mtts around the time the online legistlation came out and have done well since :)

Gradually made small deposits ($50-100) late in 05 through early 07. I grinded $3 1 tables and $5 45 mans during that span and had some small sucess in MTT's and SnG's.Then in Mar. 07 won a $9 360max for about $810. @ this time I was relocating and in between school when I luckboxed a 3rd place finish in the $27 nightly tourney on stars for just over 2g. From there I decided i'd try to play for a living, I had a few years experience(watching good players, reading forums, and a love for the game), and lots of hands under my belt so I said what the hell. In early April 07 I had a 3g bankroll joined pokerxfactor and started a journey that has been downhill ever since. I must say I have been a super big bankroll nit but I feel the level of competition and swings are alot better grinding $50>. 100k in profit later and not 1 single losing month i'd say it wasn't a bad choice. Poker def. isn't for everyone but if you can control tilt, choose your games wisely, and know when to step away from the tables (factors you can control) you'll be miles ahead of most players out there. Sorry for the grammar I suck @ writing -
Back in 2006, I was a losing player online. I decided to give it another shot and deposited $200 on party poker. I won a $33 satty to the Sunday Million. I chopped the tourney for 2nd place money-$99,000.

I was extremely broke and depressed this past december, I won a $10 freezeout with only $48 dollars in my account that a friend had staked me. That cash was for around $1600 and was the huuuugest deal at the time. Anyways I turned that 1600 into 15k in my bank account and a 15k bankroll on full tilt, as well as a bracelet race seat, an Irish open seat, and a WSOP main event seat. I can't stress how depressed and broke I was man hahah, I am completely financially independent and my parents seem to love me more than ever. God bless poker, it can honestly save lives.

put in 25 dollars online my freshman year and lost it... did that a few more times.... read some books, put in 400 and now have made over 250K
i made maybe 2k in sngs, then moved to cash and made some there. then when i turned 21 i started playing live cash and just had an amazing summer last summer where i made 80k in caisnos (including tourneys and cash, but mostly from cash). had a big score online, as i dabble into mtts online. now i cant take poker seriously anymore and i am a losing player, though i only play 2-5 and sometimes 5-10 now.... so i suck and got lucky basically
if u are seirously an intelligent person, just know that poker is very limiting in how much you can use your intelligence.... just my little warning to getting too involved in it -
I deposited $100 a few times to play $100NL (LOL), then after about 4 deposits I got tired of losing all my money and re-depositing so I started playing $1 MTT's and $5 SNG's, finally I luckbagged my way onto a $1 final table and made a little over $200, plus I was running super hot in the $10 SNG's (like I couldn't lose if I tried, and looking at these old HH's I was basically trying to lose) so I decided it would be a good idea to play the Stars Sunday 500K (I think that was the guar. back then), again LOL, my roll was like $500+ at this point. SO I basically played the nittyest poker imaginable for 6 hours, got hella deep then took a tough break at the end but cashed for $1,200+, so I was officially rolling imo.
I worked my 2K roll into 10K pretty quickly, I was getting serious about learning poker at this point and having some success in SNG's and SSNL, then I was a BR nit for almost a year and made some decent pocket change, then Netteller happened and I lost 40% of my BR, got insanely tilted and cashed out most of it, lost the rest in a drunken rage, then got a backer and had a little success.
I did all this with no MTT success to speak of ( a few 1K-4K cashes but nothing big) but I ran so good in SNG's it was almost unfair, and I grinded a lot of SSNL for a long time.
Here's my awesome SNG graph:

started playing home games in college in late 04. put 25 or 50 online on partypoker, lost it. year later put 50 more on and built it up. went from site to site doing bonuses. got a decent roll and was playing .50-1 a year ago. now i play 2-4 and 5-10 on tilt and do pretty well for myself.
