  1. I was reading the blog of a top player who stated, "<SPAN>I am in <SPAN class=yshortcuts id=lw_1221247990_4>Las Vegas</SPAN> this weekend spending time with Dennis Phillips...the chip leader at the World Series of Poker main event final table.... I am one of the team of people he has assembled to help prepare him for the big day." </SPAN>
<SPAN><SPAN class=c1>So, I am wondering...if you were among the November Nine, if you were to assemble a team to help prepare you, who would be on that team and why?

Let me begin by saying "a team" per se seems excessive and likely to be confusing, especially for a relatively inexperienced amateur. I am thinking a team of two for the November Nine might be optimal. Because I would hope to get heads-up, I would look to Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, who has advanced knowledge of game theory, is arguably the most successful HU competitor in recent years and is himself a former WSOP ME champion. My other choice is Daniel Negreanu. He could get me heads up and he'd be fun to study with.</SPAN></SPAN>

until one hand where they start even in chips. Hellmuth has AhAd, Lidell 9h5h, Flop: AsAc6h, Hellmuth chechraise shoves flop, Lidell snaps(notice he has no flush draw). Turn 7h, River 8h. Mmmmmmmmm delicious. Liddell then gets up and proclaims he is a better player than Hellmuth because of his glorious victory.

  18. Appearantly Dennis Phillips is paying a shit ton of money to Roy Winston. I swear I didn't make that up.

  19. A good tax attorney, CPA, and investment specialist. Changing your game right before the biggest FT of your life is a bad idea imo.

  20. An image consultant so I could land a sweet endorsement deal with a poker site.
  21. I'd pay Brian Townsend to get dressed up like me and play.....
  22. Nobody. While I won't say the Main Event is a complete luckfest I will say that luck plays a MAJOR part in it. Nobody is "good enough" on skill alone to get there.

I would think the final table will be a bit more about skill, but still. You are playing with limited knowledge against unpredictable opponents.

    The cards will decide it.
  23. I think it's amazing that nobody's laughed Roy Winston out of Vegas with his Oracle Consulting goofiness...and then Dennis Phillips goes along with it.

First of all, I'd never have a "team." Too many cooks spoil the broth. It'd be so easy to fill your head with too much info. One player, maybe two max, someone who is better at switching gears and playing later streets than I am.

Assuming anyone I would think of would be willing to spend the time, I would want to refine my game with Allen Cunningham and Daniel Negreanu.

I agree that you shouldn't try to change your game/playing style right in the middle of a big tournament. It takes a looooong time to get comfortable with your own playing style, imo. Maybe you could plug a few leaks but nothing major.

What I think would be the most beneficial, then, is to get someone who is an expert at reading people. Spotting tells and betting patterns is a skill that helps ALL poker players, no matter what the style, so you don't have to change anything about your own style to implement these new ideas.

For this reason, I'd pick Negreanu and Ivey.
